- In this video, I walk through the process of Tadelakt in my studio bathroom.
The materials I used were from a company called Earthaus Plaster. (earthausplaster.com) For a more in depth look at the process from their team: • Earthaus Tadelakt Fini...

I'm really enjoying the information and quality of your videos. As someone who is planning a home build right now and plan to get down and dirty with natural finishes, I'd love to see what else you've been up to. Thanks for putting all the work you do into these videos, it's much appreciated.
Thanks Ellie! I'll try and get a few more videos out to share the process
STUNNING. Absolutely stunning.
Great presentation. Your delivery is well paced and straight forward.
You need to do a house tour! This looks amazing
Thanks Dario!
Yes house tour house tour please!
Thank you so much for the video. I have been trying to explain to my husband what Tadelakt is without knowing the correct terms. I experienced outdoor showers made this way in Tanzania and absolutely loved it. With the help of your video I will be able to redo our bathroom! Again thank you
What a great tutorial & beautiful space. Great job! Thank you
This was so gorgeous!! Happy to have found your video and will be following along!
Great video, with great step by step instructions. Thanks for making and sharing!
Stunning result, amazing work and excellent explanation. Thank you so much ❤
Came out incredible! Can’t wait for the next video
This is fantastic! Love how it turned out.
Thank you for sharing this extremely time-consuming process. I have learned a lot through your videos. I would love to know how you rounded your corners and edges such as around the pony wall. Love the softness it creates. I would also love to get an update on how it withstands against mold!! Looking forward to more videos from you.
I love this so much, your hard work paid off!
Can’t love this enough! Amazing! Thanks for sharing
Yes! I’ve been searching UA-cam for ages having no idea what these style of bathrooms are called … I was inspired by what I saw in Greece on the islands , this smooth natural finish in interiors and particularly bathrooms. My own bathroom that came with the apartment I bought is an awful IKEA tile thing that I want to self renovate and your video has just given me the first glimmer of hope that it is possible. I have a lot to learn … I’ve got as far as ‘how to remove tiles’ but I need to also demolish part of an internal wall and get everything ready for this Greek rendering style. I’ll subscribe and look at the rest of your vids. Thanks !
Did you do it? Any pics or advice?
yes i was inspired in Santorini island in Greece as well lol forgot what they are called. Share pics and ideas, I am tying to do this in toronto so not sure how it will withstand the cold temps?
The name Tadelakt refers to the traditional, moroccan application technique of a specific lime mortar.
I am wondering if it is the same technique used in Greece ?
@@FaycalBellamineno, Greece uses their own style of plaster, the one the person above thinks of is probably “patito”, sometimes called Santorini stucco. Just like tadelakt it is a lime based system, with slight differences.
beautiful and inspiring. Makes me feel like I can do this too. Thanks!
Thanks man, appreciate seeing this process! Looks so good!
I’ve been looking for this process after seeing similar in Mexico.. Thank You for these videos.. Awesome job!!
Love everything about this project, thank you for sharing, hi from New Zealand
We just did our shower like this!!! It’s sooo beautiful! We loved the dark so much we didn’t mix as much the last layer and kept it darker - it’s such a vibe! It was way more work than my hubby wanted but it’s finally done! Very labor intensive ❤Thank you for the inspiration Mr. Washington. We had a rock shower planned and as it sit in piles and we have a 2story , to go back and forth cutting and placing quickly became too big - this was the next choice 😅
let us know how much mold is building up?
would you please share where to buy tadelakt powder?
Just FIY for those wondering, this is not Tadelakt. Tadelakt is an eco-friendly, extremely labour intensive finishing that is commonly used in Morocco and historically in Europe where natural plaster is polished with a stone. I know, it sounds crazy! I believe what is used here is a "modern" version of Tadelakt, that can be easily bought. Unfortunately not eco-friendly :)
Lots of companies make eco friendly tadelakt from the same minerals they were made of way back when.
Did you talk to him and find that out or is it a guess in your part?
Mostly guess work from this one.....
Gorgeous!! My dream bathroom!!
Awesome!!! So much patience
Bro-ur my hero!
I spent lots if time in morocco and have been trying to figure out how to get those textures…thanks somuch for sharing your know how!!!
Thanks Marlon!
nice work man. im looking to do this for a wet room shower with a roman tub. getting excited seeing other people succeed.
This is such a helpful video- thank you!!
This looks really beautiful although it’s not real tadelakt. It’s lime plaster that is waterproofed with olive oil soap…. Real tadelakt is limeplaster, that is densified by hand with a very small smooth stone - square inch by square inch so that in the end it looks like it has been glazed and has a real shine. The real tadelakt is very hard because of the density, almost like real solid stone.
Absolutamente perfecto!!!!
I saw a photo on pinterest and was in love and just like u i went searching and in my search a friend told me he use lime wash on his walls and it looked similar but something was missing and then i FOUND YOU 😂 and boom i know exactly what to do next (not really) but ill continue watching your videos and whenever i am ready i hope to make MINIMAL mistakes. Thank you for being the hero that u are. 🎉
This video is gold
Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.🎉
The most common issue people have with this shower system is mold in corners or areas that constantly have standing water. Please keep us updated, and let us know if any issue arise. Great job, and Thanks!
Thanks. So no coners it is
1) Tile floor first (slope appropriately)
2) Some companies are suggesting a reveal between vertical and floor (capillary break) sealed with bathroom caulk
3) Lime-based plaster as opposed to gypsum or other
4) properly seal finish and reapplication every few months (no harsh bathroom cleaners)
I live in a moldy place and tiles get moldy too
you can actually mix anti mold in tadelakt if you want
Thanks .
Thank you very much for sharing; I really love it.
I'm happy to have found you here, I'm starting my Tadelakt project in Brazil. I was very inspired by you! Thank you very much!
To na mesma, camarada! 😅 Alguma dica que você poderia me passar ou ainda não executou?
@@andreipasquarelli143 você é de onde?
Excellent demo, many thanks!
My these construction workers are getting younger and younger these days! And the diversity of the team is astounding. Cross species too. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha. It's all over the place!
Gorgeous project!
Thank you!
Looks amazing!!!
Beautiful!
Awesome video ! Thank you so much !
This was SUPER helpful. I think that I have found what my guest bath will be! I was wondering will you cover what you did for the ceiling in the shower and the floor?
Awesome! For the ceiling, I used Lime Plaster and for the floor I used Microcement. I'll be making a video to show how I did both of those as well
Stunning
Great job 👏🏻
We just switched our entire shower project. Thanks to this amazing video!!!! So extra!!!! Thank you. Hey when you did your kitchen what material was under neith your counters and sink?
It’s amazing
ohhhhhhhhh my god!!!!!!!!!!!!! wonderfull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful 🧡
I would love a bathroom like this. Looks and feels grounding, relaxing, and soothing. I wonder what the results would be if distilled water was used instead of tap.
Beautiful
Nice, we can’t get this kind of thing in my area or most others in the US. I want it so I’ll learn. I’m ok with the labor and multiple coats. It’s my house. I’m going to work on it constantly anyway. It’s similar to smoothed interior plaster and that’s surprisingly easy to learn.
Beautiful, but your real masterpiece is that stunning baby. ❤️
Great job! The shower came out beautiful. In my research into this shower technique, I would like to know what you used on the shower floor? Some videos say to tile the floor to stop future water seepage. Also, what did this shower project cost?
looks nice, thanks
beautiful
Awesome man
Nicely done! Curious to see how things hold up over time.
Hey, it look amazing. We are doing this also but we use tales glue. You have the same result and much cheaper. First waterproofing the support then 2 layers of white tales glue and then vernis. We use it in bathroom and even in shower.
This amazing in all means can you advise if putting a Durock will be more safe!
Hello Sir, many thanks for the video. I love it and the colour as well. I even purchased the same pigments for my future tadelakt project! I was wondering if you can give a recommendation on how to caulk the transition to ground tiles. Is this before or after soaping? And do you recommend first tiling or applying tadelakt on the walls. I hope you can give advice as I know you didn't use tiles. Thanks in advance.
Great video! We are considering doing this in our bathroom and this has been very informative
I saw and used bathrooms in Riads in Marrakech with this finish and absolutely love it. Unfortunately I couldn’t find someone local to do it and I’m definitely not a DIY guy. Congratulations on doing this.
Thank you so much for the video! My wife and I want to do this. Can you explain what you did with the floor. Did the elastic shield go on there?
Love this! I’m doing the same now. Can we use this sane technique over GoBoard instead of hardie?
Appreciated for the video.
Gorgeous
Thanks Sam!
Love! Would you recommend this process for an outdoor water fountain?
I ❤ it! 👏🏼
Looks stunning!!! Does it get slippery in the shower area? Would elderly be more prone to slips & falls?
Nice result! Just curious....any regular maintenance or re-application of waterproofing wax
thank you
Very nice 😍
Amazing results, I’m very curious to see how you matched the rest of the bathroom with limewash. 👌
I just uploaded that video :)
I really appreciate your videos. In the near future I will be building a cottage with traditional materials (slip-straw, strawbale, cob, earthen and lime plasters, etc.), but for now I'm learning how to retro-fit parts of our main house with natural materials/processes like tadelakt. Thanks for sharing your experience and insights, and for great production value. One request: please raise the volume of your voice and reduce (or eliminate) the music. I would enjoy hearing the sounds of troweling, mixing, etc., and just the general ambiance. All the best to you, and congrats on building a solid channel.
😮Wow.thanks for sharing! Is it as waterproofed as tiles?
dont you have to presure the surface with a stone? I learnt that tardelak needs presure on every layer. Also after the oil you have to presure it again otherwise you lose the funktion after some time. Or do you use some advanced material with extra ad ons?
Great video, inspiring as this is my ideal bathroom aesthetic, along with Cycladic/Mykonos villa-style interiors. Without looking at the Limestrong literature, I would have expected some hard-trowelling of the final coat when it was almost dry to help smooth and compact the finished surface.
Bro! I'm from Mexico here I will need to make my own mix with lime, but it's a nice video. Thanks 👍
I'm jealous! Have fun
Hi there thanks for sharing! For quite a long time I have been looking for this “plaster” Spanish style finish for a project and thanks to your video now I know it is called Tadelakt. Just out of curiosity is this project located in Mt.Wash of LA? It def have the vibe of that area. I have a question for you though: did you do the entire house tadelaket style? What did you do to the bathroom floor? Thanks!
This is great. How have you found that it held up? I have a tadelakt fireplace and I don't think they soap coated it because we had a leak during heavy rains and it left calcium deposits. I had a tiny amount of material and I'm trying to fix it and it's a not easy.
awesome video
How long did it take you to do this shower ?
Thank you so much for these beautiful and useful videos! So inspiring! I was hoping you can answer something for me: how do you create the shower divider? Is it just stacks of Hardiebacker board stuck together and then someone attached to the floor? Thanks!
Hi Linear. Thank you :) It's called a Pony wall, and it is framed like a normal wall with 2x4's. It's best to have a contractor or builder make sure it is secure to the floor and adjacent wall.
It’s nice work ..
1) What products do you use to keep the bathroom or walls clean ?
2) Can Microcement be used in bathroom instead of lime ?
I used Ca(OH)2 (powder) + fine sand + water for all walls/ceiling in my house close to the sea. No mold enymore. The easiest and cheapest way to plaster.
Looks good, are the curved edges just plaster?
This was super helpful and right on time. My husband and I are doing a tadelakt shower in our eco-friendly home. I saw you have a similar kitchen base cabinet and counter setup tpo what we want to do as well. Could you do a similar video on your process and products used please?
Hi Moonie! The next video I release will be the process of the kitchenette :)
@@MtWashingtonWeekendProject would love to see the kitchenette video too please, i see its not uploaded yet
hellooooo please where and what is the name of the limewash color you used is perfectoooo!!!
Amazing I am always so inspired by your videos!! You mention in the beginning you had the hardie backer board floated, what does that mean? Also, did you prep the board with anything before you put the layer of elasto?
Thank you so much!! I am definitely going to attempt this for my new bathroom install! You’re a godsend!!!!
Thanks Jay kay :) Floating it just means that you've taped the joints (where the boards meet) and covered the tape with joint compound. And I just put the elasto straight onto the backer board. Good luck with the project!
We highly recommend using mesh tape and thinset to tape the joints. Please see the Limestrong tadelakt prep video for detailed information. ua-cam.com/video/Ky0IOK6zHl8/v-deo.html
So awesome!! Thank you for your reply!!
I am curious if you had any cracks in the shower. I am considering this for our straw bale house, but worries that with expansion and contraction of wooden frame we will get cracks, as we did in the exterior plaster. Let us know if your can, thank for the beautiful video!
Great video. Beautiful baby by the way. What did you use for your shower floors?
I really LOVED the video. Unfortunately, I don't know why it doesn't open the link for the tools that you used. If possible, can you write in detail, what exactly are the tools brands that you used, and from which store?
How easy was it to match the limewash paint? Smart. And your lime wash paint application did you use a brush ?
Amazing work! Can you share how long it took you? 🤞🏻 hours or days maybe- I know it’s hard with a little one 😅 I’ll be doing this for other folks and the time estimates seem to be all over since it’s a niche art form 💪🏻 TIA
So nice! ❤Can you use redguard?
Can you start this process over a plaster wall? Or do I have to rip it all out to then float board and tape and start from there?
What difference does this product have from the microcement you used on your flooring in previous video?
Very Very Nice! Color me IMPRESSED! I so want to do this when/if I remodel my bathroom. Do you think this will work on an interior poured in place concrete basement wall? (walkout basement, no water issues). That would make a great feature wall!
Absolutely. I think it would look great
This is a great video! I just started my sample board yesterday and your video calms my nerves. I've been worried about timing between coats but it seems like I'll have more time than I thought. You mentioned you used the soap for sealing plus a wax. What wax did you use? Also your ceiling looks close to the tadelakt did you lime paint the ceiling?
Hi Niki :) I used Limestrong Wax for the wax sealer, and I used a lime plaster with a coat of Lime paint for the ceiling. I'll show you in my next video
Looks great! Come do my house please....
But seriously great job, your videos are so handy for my reno
Haha. Thanks Louisa!
Beautiful work! Question, what did you do for the shower floor?
Hey! I’m really wanting to redo our new home master bathroom like this. However, I’m concerned on how we can repair after tadelakt is applied and years later we have a leaking pipe. Can you repair it or would I have to redo the entire shower? Will leaks show through tadelakt, like how you can see wet grout and tiles falling off from leaking pipes?
merci
