I looked into morels years ago to better predict where they can be found. When I saw how much research had been done and how difficult it's been for well seasoned growers to successfully cultivate them, I realized that's not something I'm wanting to try. I'll support those of you that do though. It's a heck of an accomplishment, even resorting to a kit! Looking at the growth in those exo bags, I'm hopeful for you. It reminded me that I saw where nutrients had to be introduced to the beds, but I also read that the nutrients had to be removed at some point to induce fruiting conditions. I'm along for the ride and am looking forward to seeing those tasty little blacks pop this spring! 👍🏼
I have fun just giving it a go and I don't expect much but maybe one day I'll be surprised. My only goal at this point is to work towards figuring out a way so that people can just have semi-consistent results outside. There seems to be some disagreement on whether or not to remove the exo bags, but in the videos from China the bags are still in place as the mushrooms are maturing.
Great experiment. One question. Are morels like wine caps? One video I watched said that once you inoculate wood chip areas by a garden the wine caps will keep producing for years if there’s wood chips to be consumed. Will this morel bed be used for morels for more than one year or does it die after one harvest? If morels do stay alive in an inoculated bed for years do people ever bury like twelve inch logs for future mushroom consumption? Cause then you could use the plug method of inoculating logs like they do shiitake or other species.
Morels are a little different then winecaps. Definitely more moody and not as consistent and people are still trying to figure out methods for consistent success. Some people have success with them year after year but from what I understand they need to be re-spawned every season.
Mush love from north central arkansas trout capital of the world. I see you started this video in october, do you think its too late to start a morel bed in zone 7? Ive not had luck with field and forest(only tried their plugs), but I have enjoyed success with lc's from lenny from mycelium emporium and north spore kits. The past 3 yrs ive been making a morel slurry and applying to all my trees(apple pecan hazelnut pear) in the spring. No luck yet but i will keep at it. Mush love and another informative video
I would contact the people at Field & Forest and see what they have to say, but if you have $50 or $60 to burn I would say give it a try. I think it's a cool product and their strain has demonstrated the ability to produce fruit bodies which is important. Cool that you're also doing a slurry around your fruit/nut trees. Keep trying as it may take many years.
Cultivating morels is a pain. I have suceed once but probably it was random . I used sunflower pellet ,ash and hydrated lime. The problem is to stratificate the sclerotia form. Probably archeons can do that , thats why morels likes poor sandy soil or burned forests .
Interesting! I've been heavily researching this subject for a future grow and I think this kit is neat. I'm going to be trying to cultivate soon but indoors. So I'll probably go with another method. Eventually I really want to attempt this method though in a tent setup. Happy holidays!
Happy holidays to you as well, do you post videos of your grows? I will check out your channel. This kit is a great product I think and I applaud F&F on pushing the envelope.
@RenegadeMushrooms I do! I'm working on a few projects now but just got a lot of new gourmets strains to try. I'm still new to this so I'm learning and developing skills as I move along. Definitely interesting. I'm curious your results and then more so I'm curious what that supplement bag is consisting of for supplementation.
Here in Lockport, growing wine caps and lions mane outside. Threw down some morel spawn next to a dying crab apple tree, wing and a prayer.
Very cool, not far away from me. Are you having success with Lions Mane outdoors?
Looking forward to the updates 👍
Hopefully spring will bring good surprises!

@RenegadeMushrooms lol I see that. I'm just an observer in the morel arena! 👍🏼😂👍🏼
Big support brother, wish you a luck...and waiting for update, merry Christmas! Greetings from Serbia!
Thank you for the support, merry Christmas to you as well! 🎄

Thanks for the info. I learn a lot from your videos a little bit at a time.

And for the kits and lc's they were oyster type mainly, i do have 2 morel strains from lenny that are doing well

Makes sense, yeah if I get one I'll be excited.
I had better stick with winecaps
If you want guaranteed, yeah stick with winecaps 😅
