I cannot believe that we hear the lines "Without a compass a soldier knows no disgrace" and "Freedom cannot be forced onto others, it must be earned" on a DLC where a robot chainsaw dog fights a cyborg broforce style soldier that's piloting a giant mecha robot body
I just noticed this, probably a coincidence but the start of the game and the underlying beat is eerily similar to "The Unenlightened Masses/Colelctive Conciousness". He is a member of the unenlightened masses, a blind follower who cannot comprehend his status as a pawn in the grander game of desperado.
It's an interesting stance the game takes - that between being a monster who fully understands the harm they're causing and revelling in it, and being a soldier who has been suckered into doing so through propaganda and orders, it's the monster that's more respectable because they genuinely understand and believe in what they're fighting for.
It's almost the same as playground bullying. The bully has the incentive and then there's the kid that just follows the other because they think they should simply do what others are doing

Now this is the kinda music I wish more military shooters had. Not just some victorious stock music, but a song that shows the true nature of being a soldier. That you’re not some war hero, just another man fighting for what they think is right, even if it’s not
Worse yet how the brutality of war and propaganda cause people to do unspeakable horrors and not bat an eye at it. They even revel in it thinking of it as honorable. This song embodies the reality of soldiers in war. If a triple a game were to replicate something like this, it'd be criticized for being too accurate. Sad but that's the world we live in
I joined for my future to be secured but I've seen some kids joined because they genuinely believed they were doing the right thing those people are always the most miserable.
I agree. Problem is that a lot of devs for military shooters know their audience are pro military (and actually quite a few vets and currently serving) and would be offended. Also, if you show the military in a good light in your project than most if not all military branches (looking at you especially navy) will actually give you help developing your movie/game/etc by allowing you access to different physical and virtual military assets to aid you. They do this because it not only makes them look better but is proven to boost enlistment numbers. Want to throw out there by the way that I respect and support those who fight so I don't have to, it's the brass and the bureaucratic profiteers that I'm against.
There's a particular beauty in that this song is not a celebration of the character associated with it, but instead a dirge. This is not a triumphant battle theme like Jetstream Sam or Monsoon, but instead a complete and utter deconstruction of Khamsin as a pathetic, servile individual. This is not the battle anthem of a warrior, this is the song of a man who has committed unspeakable evil for reasons he can't even name, completely suckered in by years of propaganda, and he's about to die for it. This is him explaining his life to his killer, not boasting of his prowess. He was a nameless, faceless goon enacting the whims of empire, he was told he was fighting for peace or justice when all he did was butcher innocents so the rich could get richer. Khamsin was someone sucked into the military-industrial complex and turned into a monster, whereas someone like Sundowner or Monsoon ALWAYS had that evil inside of them and simply had a chance to indulge in it.
@@TheFirstCurse1 A lot of people tend to forget this game was made by Japanese people, who, underneath all the bright lights and shiny buildings, still hold a deep seated hatred for the United States, justifiably so, a nuclear detonation doesn't heal over 50 years, and more importantly are prideful bastards when it comes down to it, but it especially shows in this game's music and themes which kind of annoys me because what appears as a "critique of the military-industrial complex" is actually just saying "lol look at those AMERICANS! Can't get enough of their WARS! LOL!" Still a good game, though.
@@theta_clips Sure it's mainly about America, but there are a lot of other countries too that it talks about. America just happens to be the worst one. And Metal Gear has always had something to say about America, and it deserves everything that has been and that will be said.

Metal Gear Rising : Revengeance, or that one game where characters that barely ever appear on screen at any time and whose only purpose is to be boss fight material are still interesting because of their boss music.
it's because their boss music gives us an insight to the character who they are, and what personality they have. the only boss who has a theme that doesn't reflect them is Senator Armstrong, both songs are actually from Raiden's perspective on Armstrong
@@fefeman2856 That one is actually the theme between Armstrong and Raiden. They both want the same thing. The world to change. But they both have different ways of achieving it... so it has to be this way... a fight to the death.
@@dominicbrunsmeier7830 It's the fight between Sam and Raiden, as Raiden realises who Sam truly was through Blade Wolf. Both Sam and Raiden had the same goal (In the end I realize, you are just like me) Raiden and Armstrong don't exactly connect on many points on how to change the world. Facing Sam, and in the end, using Sam's blade against Armstrong made him truly recognize his path (Violence breeds violence). "It has to be this way" references the fight itself. The two never needed to fight, as they had the same purpose in this conflict, kill Armstrong. The final line in the song, "Yet I feel new life will be born beneath the bloodstained sand". Raiden changed a good amount due to Sam's actions, and after being tossed the sword, Raiden finds resolution with his killing instinct and his approach to justice, essentially giving him new "life".

@@Sonichero151 I do feel bad for those who were drafted into this pointless war. However, those that actively partake in it, the ones committing the war crimes and atrocities in Ukraine, those ones need to vanish.
Not only that. For example, how much do we know what happened to e.g. WW1 or WW2 soldiers right after these wars ended¹, or what happens to corpses of all the soldiers that died in the battlefield²? Exactly. We know nothing about them, since soldier is only known as long as the battle is on. ¹WW1 veterans have been simply ignored by governments of their countries, so small group of extremely lucky ones, who managed to survive this massacre without any serious wounds, were able to return to their murderous fabrics and kill themselves there yet again, with family telling them to ,,man up". The entire rest would just be thrown to the streets, abandoned by society and their family, living a life of a beggar. Oh, wait - that's the best outcome. In most countries, e.g. in Germany, they felt betrayed and joined extremist far-right organisations, where they started fighting new wars on their own, this time with Communists. As for WW2 veterans, many of them suffered severe PTSD, sometimes even addiction, and became just brutal people, which took its toll on their children. This new generation will create, as it will be known, ,,Golden age of serial killers" in USA. ²It depends on the war. Usually, after it ended, a special group of people came there to take the bodies and give it a proper burial. During WW1, however, it wasn't possible, so majority of them still remains in Poland and France, still waiting for proper burial.

I'd like to think this song represents Khamsin's thinking. He probably thinks he's one of the main winds of destruction, but in reality he's nothing more than a pawn. All the main enemies from the main game came around to Armstrong's thinking and compared it to their own ideals, while Khamsin was basically bought into Armstrong's speech of freedom and one's own destiny. This is why Mistral wanted to kill him cause She basically saw him as another soldier without his own thoughts and was basically bored, knowing full well that no one would miss him within the main winds of destruction.

Something I noticed - 0:45 has an incredibly similar chord progression to Collective Consciousness. As this song goes "Heat of the desert, dust settles on my face" in the background, you can hear "The Unenlightened Masses, they cannot make the judgement call." This song fits more for Bladewolf than Khamsin. I think this song took some liberties with the boss fight theme being the character's thoughts and feelings. Analyze the lyrics and you'll realize they all fit with Bladewolf at the time of the boss battle, and are almost contradictory to Khamsin's.
TrueFriends HelpMoveBodies I usually consider that theme as a dialogue between the two of them; Khamsin's lines would be the regular singer's voice whereas Wolf's voice would be the tuned parts. Khamsin is a jerk, but he seems to sincerely believe in freedom.
NoelistAvenger Well yeah, he sincerely believes in it in the same way the far right in America does. He believes in freedom through force. Save the Arabs by blowing up their houses.
TrueFriends HelpMoveBodies Even though that's an attitude I despise, I think it gives his character more depth; at least, as much depth as a one-shot miniboss from a DLC who was never even mentioned in the main game can get.
-randomly appears in a codec -endures freedom -ordered to kill you -drops the most fire song in the ost -fails to kill you -dies -never mentioned again and forgotten about by a large faction

I would switch Monsoon and Sundowner. Dirty and faceless: Sam On my own: Sundowner Invisible warrior: Monsoon Waiting to heed your instruction: Bladewolf fight for justice/ out of the ashes: Raiden Freedom is calling: Armstrong wind of destruction: Mistral the hot wind blowing: Khamsin I dont care if you disagree

Without a sense of empathy or connection to the place and people they’re harming, people are able to feel no guilt over said harm they cause and even tell themselves it’s honorable.
it's not
Metal Gear Ray: It fights because that's what it was designed to do.
Blade Wolf: It fights because it is forced to, even if it knows it is pointless.
Mistral: She fights because she wants to have a purpose, even if it is a wrong one.
Monsoon: He fights because only by fighting he feels something different to despair and emptiness.
Sundowner: He fights because he loves the chaos and thrill of the fight.
Sam: He fights because he wants to find someone better than him to fulfill his mission.
MG Excelsus: It is used to fight to expand the memes of the patriots.
Armstrong: He fights because he believes only by destroying everything can a new society raise.
Khamsin: He fights because he is a soldier and they are made to fight.
That’s one thing I love about this game.. all the bosses have their own reasons for fighting and their themes reflect that
There is a bit more depth to Armstrong’s ideals
Cold Diamond it’s basically just American fascism right?
(Fascism moreso in the Mussolini sense than the Hitler sense.)
Gin Argent Closer to anarcho-capitalism. Social darwinist, but oriented towards hyper-individualist freedom as an ideal

Want to throw out there by the way that I respect and support those who fight so I don't have to, it's the brass and the bureaucratic profiteers that I'm against.
collective consciousness
@@Aim_HR that’s the final boss theme
Spot on with his character and fighting style
It's about the United States Of America and it's foreign policy, which is what Khasmin is a personification of.
LOL!"
Still a good game, though.

As if he goes through so much pain, but it means nothing because his life is worthless to the world...
A jaded veteran that pushes on regardless. Just accepting the routine of his fate.
Omg i hate the fact that we will never have a sequel to this wonderful game... My favorite soundtrack ever :(
ye but honestly I prefer having 1 amazing game without any sequel than have a low quality revengeance 2. With konami's current state I don't trust them anymore.
having no sequel is better than dissapointed players.
Maybe it's for the better - modern Konami is so shit
@@byronvonedmund agreed. If they ever make a new MGR it's gonna be just another Metal Gear Survive
or yet, MGR with zombies, yeah
This song makes me wish Khamsin had more character development
This song fits more for Bladewolf than Khamsin.
TrueFriends HelpMoveBodies Even though that's an attitude I despise, I think it gives his character more depth; at least, as much depth as a one-shot miniboss from a DLC who was never even mentioned in the main game can get.
did he have any to begin with?
Collective consciousness from the unenlightened masses POV:
2:00 "just like the buffalo, batman following others"
GET OUT OF MY HEAD
"Batman"
I must follow
0:09: The unenlightened masses...
Nigel Orbe You’re right, it uses the same note progression.
"I am a wind of destruction!"
Literally the rest of Desperado: He thinks he's Him.
“I am a wind. I am a wind. I am- I am a wind of destruction. I am a wind of destruction, Mr Armstrong!”
blud thinks he a part of the team
Philosophical chainsaw dog vs crippled veteran with a mech
Why was every single track in this game straight fire
>>>>>extended
>>>>>4 minutes
*>>>>EXTENDED*
my dick was extended does that make it count
Cybernetically Enhanced Person Animation
no
The GOOD OL DAYS AFTER 9/11 were extended does THAT count?
Sir Cheddar
yes
This song makes me FUCKIN' INVINCIBLE.
“Buckle the fuck up little doggy”
-Khamsin
-randomly appears in a codec
-endures freedom
-ordered to kill you
-drops the most fire song in the ost
-fails to kill you
-dies
-never mentioned again and forgotten about by a large faction
> exists
> drops the rawest song in the game
> refuses to elaborate
> dies
*Dirty and faceless* - Jetstream Sam
*Waiting to heed your instruction* - Mistral
*On my own* - Monsoon
*Invisible warrior* - Sundowner
"I am a wind of destruction!"
"Invisible warrior - Sundowner"
Sundowner
"I'M FUCKING INVINCIBLE!"
"I TOUCH KIDS!"
"GOOD OL' 9/11!"
I would switch Monsoon and Sundowner. Someone like Sundowner doesn't exactly seem low-key, whereas Monsoon's literal ninja fighting style would fit a supposed "invisible warrior", and Sundowner does seem the type to enjoy killing people by himself, that squad of choppers during the fight notwithstanding.
must have mixed up invisible and FUCKING INVINCIBLE!
Dirty and faceless: Sam
On my own: Sundowner
Invisible warrior: Monsoon
Waiting to heed your instruction: Bladewolf
fight for justice/ out of the ashes: Raiden
Freedom is calling: Armstrong
wind of destruction: Mistral
the hot wind blowing: Khamsin
I dont care if you disagree
with a shit eating grin like sam's, there's literally no way he could be faceless
so i propose:
Dirty and faceless - Monsoon
Waiting to heed your instruction - Sundowner
On my own - Sam
Invisible warrior - Mistral
He shows up only like twice or thrice in the dlc then dies but has like the best song in the game
It's been fuck knows how many years, and I still feel happy when he goes "I AM A WIND OF DESTRUCTIONNN"
Bro shows up in the dlc, nowhere to be found in the main game, drops the best song in the game and just dips
>DLC boss
>Tiny cutscene
>Has the absolute best song in the soundtrack
>easiest boss
>refuses to elaborate
>Dies in like 2 minutes
literally the grindset
Ironic how this song about soldiers carrying out their duties regardless of it being morally wrong only to be forgotten is played during the bossfight of a soldier who is never mentioned by the other bosses in the main story and only shows up in the Bladewolf DLC
It’s interesting how khamsin is the only one who prides himself in being a wind of destruction
I just love how electronic this song is. Especially the heavy synths
