Excellent. Annotated videos like this take time and trouble to produce, so thanks!.. And I always love seeing London scenes from here in australia. Carnaby Street seems to have changed quite a bit since the days when I used to wander down there in the 60's!
In the 1960"s😂 your and old geezer mait, ✋️ wait. Im-a turning 60 this year. Lived in NW 10 for around 7-8 years now back in da States. Maybe I'll video some night life in Detrbefor we move back to the old baily 😆
It is realy beautiful. So the conclusion is the auto mode is enough? I can't see much differences between the different settings. And may I ask why you selected 4K25FPS and not 60? Does 25 give a more cinemative feel or other advantages?
auto mode is literally great and like u say sometimes u can’t really see hardly any difference. I shoot most my stuff in 25 due to living in the uk sometimes when I shoot in a different frame rate I have issues with flickering lights in auto mode and I prefer the look over shooting in 60 (unless I’m planning to slow it down) and yes it can add that cinematic look
I know im late for this but i just ordered mine last week and hopefully arriving by today. I am actually impressed by the Normal mode. It already look amazing! I will just use your setting for the normal mode. Super excited to bring my P3 for my trip next month. Thank you for this video!
may i ask why sharpness and noise reduction is at -2? wouldnt 0 be completely neutral? also if you want a super sharp image and low noise and cant edit that post. would it make a difference to out those settings higher?
it looks artificial if you leave both at 0. So most people set it to -2 that edit their video set it to -2. You can also add sharpness back when you edit it in post. It is an easy correction in post. Hope that helps.
Great video. Is it possible to get a snippet of the DLOG footage for download, esp the night ones, so I can do test on them and see whether I should buy one. UA-cam makes it hard to see the true quality due to compression, and it doesn’t help DJI can’t even provide footages for download so the quality can be judged better
Good comparison. Soft moody music in the background, really immerses the viewer into the scene. Kudos mate. I have just bought mine and have to practice a bit.
You are a godsend! Seriously man, I've learned so much from your vids on the pocket 3. Can't wait to test it out in January when I'm back in Thailand 👍
something about auto, that makes the image pop more than in the Dlog shots. I've seen this in other vlogs too where the p3 , slays cameras 6 times more expensive exposing skin tones. I wonder if dji is running some type of ai tech "under the hood" they are testing & not promoting
You can really see the difference between regular (8 Bit) versus 10 Bit M-Log shooting mode in the Night time London scenes. There's about 50 % more colour depth in the images, and the density profile shows slightly more detail in the blacks. I'm somewhat surprised to see such a demonstrative difference here on UA-cam, since the Tube is known for being H.264 in 4:2:0 colour space, and it has the tendancy to crush your blacks and highlights in your image. I would love to download the camera original files and view those on a good 4K calibrated monitor. I suspect those original images straight out of the OSMO Pocket 3 would look really incredible.
@@james.loxton Yes, this makes sense, because you're getting way more colour gradations than what 8 Bit can capture. You've gone from a grey scale of only 256 gradations of grey in 8 bit to over a million plus in 10 bit ! Colour depth is affected by grey scale frequency. The image must get better. 👍P.S. *Be warned UA-cam erodes your colour and image density grade ! The Tube is only H.264 in 8 Bit with 4:2:0 colour interpolation technique ! 👎🏻 This crushes your highlights and blacks and since colour depth follows greyscale image density, this pulls out some of your colour saturation levels as well.*
Do you recommend to put sharpness and noise reduction both to -2 rather than zero in auto mode? And if so, WHY to -2 and NOT zero? And, if both values are on -2 do you sharpen and reduce the noise while editing the video?
I did various different tests with them at different values and found I liked the look of the clips with them both set to -2 pretty much all the time, same goes for the action 4… I guess it’s personal preference, there’s no right or wrong to it, maybe play around with them as well and see where ur sweet spot is
what do you think is better? Locking the shutter speed or having it adjust on its own? Also, did you mess with EV settings at all? I noticed it gets blown out, so I'm going to try -0.7ev
i always prefer locking the shutter speed in so I know what it’s doing. as for the EV, yes ur right that’s one of the annoying things with the pocket 3, the exposure so I usually float between -0.3 and -1.0
Nice video. What about 10-bit HLG? I find that when I shoot 10-bit HLG it looks washed out on the Pocket 3 screen, but transfer it to your iPhone or a screen that supports HDR and it comes alive!! Really looks nice and (maybe) not much grading needed.
thanks 😎 I actually don’t like the HLG on the pocket 3 as much as the other profiles plus I had a nightmare with the HLG files in premiere so I decided to scrap them altogether
are u looking in the right place? swipe from the right to the left and u should see image adjustments, click on that and sharpness and noise reduction should be there
swipe from the right when on the main preview screen and make sure ur in ‘pro mode’ and you’ll then see an option for ‘color’ literally just press on that and it will keep switching between each color profile
M really impressed with Auto mode night videos! Coz pro mode is always failing me ! Question: should we use ND filters for night videos to reduce the sharp lights?
auto mode is so so good 🤩 no, don’t use nd filters at night. If the lights are too sharp for u then u can use a light pollution or mist filter. check out my freewell video as I talk about those filters in that vid FREEWELL ND FILTERS FOR THE DJI POCKET 3 - GET THAT CINEMATIC LOOK! ua-cam.com/video/0k46XDMRrco/v-deo.html
Hi ! Nice video and comparison 👍🏻 very surprised that you shot with continuous focus mode but the result is perfect. I was thinking in this mode the focus will « jump » from near to far but it’s not happening. Was thinking that, while filming cities, it was needed to use the fixe focus mode setting the focus on the furthest point… thank you !
thank u 😎 yeah, I was surprised too tbh, I did various different tests with the focus settings and was happy with the way continuous performed which is why I keep it in that mode pretty much most of the time when shooting with the p3

Good to see the results of various pro settings. I’m still struggling on doing the color correction right. Any suggestions on easy to use editing tool? Thanks a lot.
Do you walk normally or are you a ninja? Not much bobbing evident in the footage. Do you think a 4th axis gimbal is a good option with this camera? Cheers. 👍
tbh i literally just walk very slowly and no sudden movements… I guess u could call it ninja cos yeah if ur back ain’t hurting at the end of it u ain’t doing it right 😂 and yeah the more axis the better!
Look at the lights how they shimmer too much. There are some differences also with darker regions. It's not that visible if you shooting in those conditions. If you go for something a bit more cinematic then D-LOG M + color correction and some LUT will do amazing job and outperform the AUTO mode. (remember to add extra color mode transformation in Davinci if you use it). Although - AUTO does amazing job and for everyday use many people will go for it to speedup the workflow if needed.
Very nice! I was wondering... I've noticed you, and a lot of videographers turn down the sharpness a couple of stops. Is that to get a 'warmer', more 'cinematic' look? Anyway, looks great!
thanks 😎 I turn down the sharpness cos sometimes without it turned down it can make the image look very digital and sharp so turning it down softens it out
It's doesn't change anything about the color. The sharpness reduced to -2 is because the videos are too sharp at 0. It's better to add a bit of sharpness if necessary after the color grading.
thanks 😎 it’s sunny london… yeah I’ll defo look at a vid like that in the future but fyi this video had no adjustments made to any clips apart from the d-log m clips which were color corrected
So good videos and look like same, maybe because you try edit same colours. I like to use Pro Normal 10bit at night time, because it’s so good and look like don’t need to correct colours. D-Log M…not so better than Pro Normal 10bit.
@@james.loxton Good idea. Just trying to get the best deal possible. I will let you know when I get it. How are you set for doing a collabe walk around london at some point?

I think the image in Auto mode 4K\25 is a little jerky. Is it? On my pocket3 the same...
Does D-log M require any specific exposure values? Like how S-log2/3 from Sony requires +1.3~2 stops of overexposure.
