Welcome to our memory lane! This will probably be our last trip before we heed the call of military life and move to a new location.
This is our first time following an established trail system like the Smoky Mountain 1000. This trail was initially made for motorcyclists, but the roads were wide enough, which later on was utilized by offroad enthusiasts with 4wD vehicles. Spanning over 1000 miles of paved and unpaved roads connecting five National forests (Chattahoochee, Cherokee, Nantahala, Pisgah, and Sumter) around or near the Smoky Mountain National Park.
Our first day covers a 6-hour drive weaving through traffic to the Cohutta wilderness area. We hate going to established campgrounds as experience taught us that established campgrounds are nothing more than a day out in your backyard in a busy neighborhood, as we have proven again on our first night in Lake Conasauga campgrounds. But leaving after work with a 6-hour drive on a busy weekend, reserving a camp has its perks! That's alright, as we still enjoyed paddling along its lakes the next day.
This was our most expensive trip yet as Dad crashed our drone and backed the 4Runner onto a tree, leaving a dent in the hatch. But we paid to play, and we had fun!

Let me say I'm so happy to know your parents name, Max. Now I can refer to them as Chris and Judy! 😁😁 We're so lucky that were retired and never have to leave after work. or take the freeways much either. But then again as we age it takes us almost 10 days to visit the supermarket! 🤣🤣 We so happy you found the roads less traveled. Beautiful as always, Max, Judy and Chris! Really glad to see you're out adventuring (and telling stories) again, and you've taken things up another notch, still! 👍 Beautiful sequence floating on the lake, there, before you even really got started, and I appreciate ALL the work behind that coffee sequence. 😂The turtle was fantastic also... They're one of my favorite to encounter in the wild. I know the feeling of passing up a prime campsite with more miles to cover, and it was a bummer to see the drone incident, but you got so still captured so many great moments... Looking forward to seeing you next time 👏

As always, enjoyed a beautifully filmed, edited and story told film. Sorry you had a mishap with the drone, hope it was an easy repair. I like your attitude, you must not let the little things destroy your mood or memories. The truck can be fixed and you'll laugh about it years from now, especially when max brings it up in conversation over driving as a teen, LOL. You are so practical, no fun checking puddle depths, just plunge in..............and regret it later. Actually with your family in tow, it is best to try to be safe at all times. Enjoyed the slow mo filming and the drone footage before the crash. I like how you get out even in the rain, to get the footage, to drive your video. Autumn will be here soon, hope you get back out, in it, wherever you land. Thank you for your service my friend.

The drone shot and the beautiful cuts makes this video watching experience so amazing, I lived in Atlanta for 6 years and guess every Fall had a Smokey Mountain drive, this video has really made me nostalgic... really admire your patients in placing the camera and filming the moving car, as a creator I know that its such a time consuming process and really appreciate for all the hard work put together in making this video

Sobra ganda apo at kahit wala kayong neighbor sa 2nd camp site nyo at wala din amenities completo naman ang dala nyo, si Max sobra nag e enjoy sa byahe naka smile habang naka tingin sa labas halatang nature lover na bata pa☺️ salamat Max at ipinasyal mo ulit si lola at lolo wala yan dito sa pinas at kung meron man kelangan 4x4 SUV at magandang camera para maganda kuha..salamat ulit mga apo enjoy and God bless

Thanks, Dave! It's a great memory mark, for sure lol. I never included the reason why in the film. But there was this lady bathing fully naked in a river in a highly trafficked area. Not wanting to disturb her privacy even though she was out in the open, I reversed my way back. Then it happened I hit a tree. I thought I was back on the nude European beaches for a second and zoned out. 🤣

The views and environmental atmosphere are very beautiful...very cool with green trees. This is a place worth visiting..for a relaxing holiday...I love this place...also the small lake is very charming......
Great job and great introduction to this series! Seems like you've really 'leveled up' with production on this one! Bummer about the drone, but it happens. I've crashed two now (both in forests). Pro-Tip .... DJI Refresh is 100% worth it for your next drone. Ask me how I know 😂
Thanks, guys. It’s really a challenge to film with a hell raiser on board and we always end up using phones to film because it’s easier 🤣. My 2 year refresh just expired drone was 3 years old 🤣. Take care you all
We love watching these videos, we would love to explore like that but we can't for various reasons so we really enjoy watching. How long have you had your 4Runner? Would you buy another one? We just got a Highlander Hybrid so no off-roading for us😂😂 but we do get 35 miles per gallon😮 that's our first Toyota, and we love it oh, I would love to get a 4Runner someday😊 thanks for sharing my friend hope you have an awesome week👍🏻😁
We had the Runner for a little over 3 years. It depends if the new one will have a front locker and a stronger engine, and an updated transmission. I might reconsider. It's a body on frame, so she's heavy with outdated technology from the 90s. She's sluggish and thirsty, but we like the comfort with a little offroad capability, and we use it just for that purpose. Plus, a ton of aftermarket support for the hobby that we do. Thank you, and we look forward to your return! Have a great week 😊

Oh woow!! What an amazing start tonyour trip, besides the backing into a tree. Seeing the highest lake in Ga and the the waterfall by the side of the road!! Amazing!! Epic short trip with real out in the wild experiences yet still so close to more populated areas. The landscapes are wonderful to explore. Sorry though you had to balance the joy of your adventure with the disappointment of two costly crashes. As you say though the experiences with your family are priceless.

The kayaking with little Max was fun and I was wondering how you were going to navigate your drone through all of the trees. Bummer on backing into a tree. I am sure that is fixed now. 👍🙂
