6:14 This is truly precious insight. Like, genuinely legit insight into human nature transposed onto the universe of music creation. It's so good! And speaks to that vacillating bubbly back and forth between "I'm the best" and "I'm not good enough" that we all must meander. Seems as though pros know how to navigate that tricky trail better than the rest of us.
I did this same thing ! Did an 8 song CD in 2008 with pictures and all. It was expensive. Looking back the songs were junk. When someone tells me they are listening to it I cringe . I had one song the local bar put in their juke box where I was from . It did have a good melody but very mediocre lyrics . My buddies would always play it when we went to the bar. They were so proud. Very good info . Some studios will say WOW good stuff just to get your money
Great info.. mentoring would be something I would love, so maybe someone could help change my writing from traditional to more mainstream....got the ideas but unable to make them right...thanks for posting
Respectfully, is "everyone that heard it says it's the best" genuine music professionals in the publishing business who have the ways and means in order to actually cut your record? Or is it like my friends and family love it? If it's the former then it must have been cut already, correct? Any links to the published song?
@@rexchiquine6049 Kudos and awesome. Might you have a link to show your success to this placement or song? There's so much blather on the internet. It would be helpful to check out your genuinely successful product that was demo for less than 50 bucks. If not, no worries, I get not wanting to share specifics.
We have step by step writing courses that go into great detail at SongTown.com UA-cam is a hard format to dive into something deeply. Our live classes allow for that back and forth Q&A and deep dive. Write on! CM
When I hear someone say that their song is better than anything on the radio, I ask them how they expect to get them cut? Why would I want to try and pitch your song when NOTHING on the radio currently is relatable to it?
When songs are pitched to artists, is having a high quality demo make a real difference? Maybe I’m a little ignorant, but if I may top artist looking for songs to cut, the last thing I’m listening for is the song with the best quality.
There are lots of factrs..who is doing the listening. Producer? A&R? Artist? They all listen differently. then there is genre. Country wants stripped down, less produced demos often. Pop and sync oftwn want a master or near master recording. Also piano ballads don't need as much production as an uptempo groove song. etc, etc ~CM
Dang fellas, the stories about publishing companies is eye-opening. To be honest, it sounds like writers are getting the short end of the stick even on a good publishing deal. Maybe I just don't understand.

Sounds like everything in Publishing is a "LOAN" They are not giving you money because you are talented. Thx Clay & Marty, very interesting.
Yes, a draw that is later recouped.
Interesting

I have had very fair deals over the years. But I knew how to avoid the bad ones. :) CM
Be your own publisher til they can do for you what you can't do for youself.
smart!
however,,,it did take me two years to write it,,,
ive decided to use reverse psychology to get a record deal telling it i dont want one,,,
my aunt claimed to have a degree in reverse psychology,,,but she could never,,,back,,, it up,,,
Wow.. that sounds risky. I'm not sure I'm good enough to ever get out of debt.. lol.
Maybe I better stick with being an indy singer songwriter 🙂.
