Hadn’t listened to this in years and did tonite. I’m almost 25 again and Mark is still with us. So devastated to hear of his passing. A huge loss to the world and all of us. Thanks so very much, rest in peace, Stuart X
Talk Talk was simply the best UK band ever! And Mark Hollis was simply the best song writer that ever came out of the UK EVER! NO competition in the 1980's or since!
That's true. I've just discovered him and Talk Talk this year, first in life. His songs are the most beautiful I could ever hear. Especially Living in another world to you. That is culmination of music and song's beauty in my life. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
More than his music I admired his devotion to his family. He created a unique and passionate body of life work. He then chose what mattered to him most- his family - not being a pop star and have the life drained out of him like so many others. A real soul with a real heart can only make music with this kind of depth. Thank you for the best music, RIP Mark.
Exactly what I wrote about another live track with our genius shy Mark...Too high Emotional Quotient, too brainy but humble, I bow to his life , bound to die of cancer because he deserved better than this rotten world ...his voice shall écho in my mourning soul till death. I ve read all his rare interviews , biographies but YOUR COMMENT IS THE BEST I VE EVER READ HERE. Renée seen live in 1986 still makes me cry rivers, greetings from France
I read an interview with Mark Hollis in which he was asked about this song. Renee was a girl he was fond of while they were in school. She got involved with a wealthy man quite a bit older than herself and she dropped all of her friends (and ambitions) to go live with him. About 10 years later the old guy dumped her for another woman ("Yeah, that's the game"). The song is a lament for all she lost.
He puts so much emotion into a live performance. It's a ridiculous crime they weren't around longer. I know it was Hollis' decision to retire, and he deserved/s to be happy, but boy did the fates play a cruel trick on mankind when he decided to bow out after so few years doing what he was clearly born to do. I suppose I should just be grateful for the body of work that exists. I am, you know. (UA-cam is a blessing for those of us who never got to see these guys live; Long Live Internet Neutrality!)
"Renée" is a beautiful song and Mark sings it in a heartbreaking way. What a wonderful musical instrument its vocal cords! And then he was so beautiful...and I think he didn't knew, (or maybe he didn't care.)
Mary Luna the 80s were full of bands that were very much into fashion and appearance. I don't think Mark did care about that stuff. He would have been better suited to the '90s, I think. He was certainly "grunge" before it was cool. But beautiful, yes. In all his chameleon-like incarnations. (I admit to thinking he was at his most darling around the release of It's My Life (the album), but then, I've always preferred shorter hair on men.)
Mary Luna Also this is one of my favorite songs. I identify with it on a lot of levels. It's like that one love you have, who shows up every now and then but doesn't mean it, and still you wait and years pass, and he keeps you hanging on by popping up just when you might be moving on. This is like an apology from that one man, who, in reality, would likely never say those words. As if he knew what he was doing and was truly sorry for it. (I hope that makes some kind of sense...). I've been Renee. I was that girl for years. Wasted years...
Mindy Su There is a Renee in every woman who wastes her time devoting herself to a man who gives her only crumbs, and doesn’t notice who really wants to love her, waiting patiently for her to understand it. "My" Renee opened her eyes too late, and that one man who deserved attention was tired of spending years waiting. And he was gone.
Mary Luna I can't even count how many decent guys MY Renee likely blinded me to. Now I just live with cats. C'est la vie. (BTW, I think my FB account deleted itself. Can that happen??)
this band and mark Hollis are what music should always be about, they didnt care about there image or how many teen mags they could get into, it shows in the passion of there songs. Thats why i still get excited to hear there music to this day.

hi Mark Hollis, beautiful human being, intelligent, sensitive, with a vision beyond the usual, songwriter, musician, lead singer of the most amazing band he brought to life in the 80's, the talent of Lee Harris, and Paul Webb gave a special musical touch to the band TalkTalk Miss everyone in the band.🙏🙌
Talk talk, one of the greatest bands of all time. Thanks for sharing this sublime liveversion of Renee. Hollis and the band are on fire asnd on stage to deliver. What a performance. Brilliant stuff

He reallt stopped because he found out he had cancer which killed him.
His music was beautiful, sincere, poetic, soulful, and from his heart. His soul was caring and beautiful. He was gone way too soon.❤

Old and lucky enough to love the sound of Talk Talk and Mark Hollis back in the 80's. That particular song makes you shiver. Truly beautiful.

he walked away because the touring was takeing its tole on his marriage so he left it all to save his marriage
