I really enjoyed my visit to Ban Baat - have 2 bowls from there! 1 bowl was a gift from my Bangkok tour guide and 1 I bought from the community. Wat Saket is beautiful, I received a blessing from a monk. Love love love Bangkok!!
We need more program like yours Mr. Mark Wiens, I feel so nostalgic when I feel home sick after I watch your program it make me feel alive again. Thank you job well done and Thai people thank you to. We owe it to you. Khob Khun Krub
Hi Mark. I found you today. And now I found this video and I'm almost feeling like crying. 5+ years ago, I met a person who was almost dying. He had a dark-color bowl in his room. He said that he bought the bowl like 20 years ago or so when he went to Thailand when he was young. He said the bowl's made by a monk. He said he wanted to put his ash in the bowl when he passed. The person was slightly hallucinating then already. I made sure to pass his request to an appropriate person and left the place. I hope his wish was carried out. Due to the confidentiality, I shouldn't write no more. Anyway, I thank you so much. I remembered the person because of your this video.
I like looking at the back ground of your videos . Watching people watching you some even wave or stand there for a while. And the fans who notice you stop shake hands. Love the food too. Love from Texas
I love marks vlogs because he has so much respect for the people and the cultures of wherever he goes. If he ever did food tours I would sign up! Because of his guides we are planning a trip to Vietnam and Thailand next year and will be using his guides throughout our trip.
So funny i can hear ying screaming while crossing the street! And first time we see ying smile with her snacks! Shes very beautiful! A real asian beauty we love you ying!
Been going here over a decade and have many bowls that can sing! People do not understand how remarkable these bowls are. Its an adventure if you go to the source. I go from the Khlong taxi to Golden mount its closer. You only sort of scratched the surface of that maze.
New fan here! I have yet to watch all your videos but I am keeping up with new videos and it's always exciting when youtube tells me you have uploaded a new video!! Thank you for all that you do, Mark and Ying!
Yes! I can't wait till I visit Thailand. I'm planning on not this year but the next spending at least a month in thailand. I want to spend all my time eating and soaking up the culture and culinary expertise of the thai people! Thank you Mark for your video's and recipes! I have taken so many notes and gotten so many ideas from your travels over the last couple of years.
1999 trip was 6 weeks in Northern Thailand self exploration and spent a week or two driving around about the Golden Triangle area. In 2004 Itook another trip to Thailand, this time with a few friends to Phuket. The north was better!
Ban Baat is so awesome. I found it in 2012. I agree with Mark that it is right in the middle of a Bangkok neighborhood. If you're good with the Thai language just ask around and the people will gladly help you get there. Their products are jaw-droppingly beautiful. It truly is a dying art. If you're in the area I highly encourage you to go. This is not the cheap goods you find on Khao Saan or Sukhumvit. They are very much worth the price you pay for them. They are 100% hand crafted, including the intricate paintings. And the people there are friendly and welcoming to visitors. Just make sure you have a strong command of the language or bring someone along with you who does. Oh, and I also remember getting a grape fanta in a plastic bag with ice and a straw from a local mom & pop store nearby. I just had to throw that in for Mark because it's one of my favorite things about Thai culture.
Hi Mark, I loved the video and the watching the bowls being made. I really enjoyed the length of the video. Please continue making longer videos, so enjoyable.
I'm glad you did a video on this Mark. I'm returning to Thailand in September to see my Ying. However my sister will be visiting for her first time and told me she wanted to go here. This will help me to take her here and walk this area. Thanks for the tips your videos are very informative.
This is the first video that I've actually recognised the places that you've been, having stayed near Bang Rak on my visit in April. I actually had a great Pad Kra Pao with moo krob at a food hall there. Can't wait to get back to Bangkok!
I love watching your Bangkok vlogs :) There's so much here in Bangkok I have yet to explore and thanks to your channel, I feel like I went along too. :)
Love all those dishes Mark...specially fish , seafood and vegetables...the food here in Canada is normally frozen and full of carbs ...fresh food is my favorite!
Really beautiful video! Actually you go a great service to the tourist planning to visit those places. The boat ride was awesome too! Love your sweet wife's reactions too, she made the video look good! :)
Hey mark! Have fun in Taiwan! There are several places that you must go to. I recommend you to go to the night markets , jiu fen old street, taroko gorge, sun moon lake, taipei 101, and many more places. Enjoy!
I have never been to Bangkok and its so fun watching your video that you share with us. Planning to go soon if my budgets allows. If I can get cheap flights n cheap /nice guesthouse . God bless you and your wife , may God protect you and keep you & Ying safe on your food journey, migrationology !
Very informative video. I really enjoyed watching the Ban Baat community Monk Bowl section. Seeing that old traditional methods still being done is wonderful. I truly feel skill in craftsmanship of any kind should be passed down generation to generation, especially in a world that is lost in "mass" production.
really enjoying where your channel is heading mark. it's no longer just food but a lot of sightseeing areas that your average tourist might not even think about going to. keep it up.
Just came back from Ban Bat, thank you Mark for doing this video. I would have missed it if I had not seen your video. Where you said be careful Ying I had to say the same to my Ying.
Love your vlogs! You've inspired our family to travel to both bangkok n phuket. Will be there n Nov2015- we can't wait! Thanks for sharing all the wonderful sites n foods.
Interesting vid! More of this please! Its really interesting to see some other things combined with your food vids! Appreciate the work mark! Keep it up!
Oh, also Taiwanese pork sausage is a must! There's also a restaurant called Xie Ah Yi (translates to Auntie Xie) in Taipei, located in a basement floor, with delicious porridge and rice noodles as a base food you can grab yourself in bowls, and depending on your number of people they bring you the dishes to eat with the porridge or noodles, you don't need to order!
Awww ying tripped me out! LOL when they was crossing the big street. She said"run run run"in thai. Im lao but i can understand thai too. But my point is theres no stop LIGHTS there hardly. SO! Id be sayin the same thing!!!! LOL
Another thought. We ALL love your food vlogs.... No one else likes them more them me probably. BUT, videos like this where you go to obscure little places is very nice too. Just saying.
Thank you very much for sharing! I'd like to know more about the culture and living in other countries versus the USA. I'm Asian but first generation in the USA and so this really interests me. Please do a video. I also wonder if you ever worry about getting sick eating out so much? You are very adventurous in your tastes in comparison to most Asian Americans so it's very entertaining to see your reactions.
Hi mark. You should do some videos of you and your wife eating at the places. That way we can see her reaction to the foods too. My daughter loves your reaction to the dishes.
I really enjoyed my visit to Ban Baat - have 2 bowls from there! 1 bowl was a gift from my Bangkok tour guide and 1 I bought from the community. Wat Saket is beautiful, I received a blessing from a monk. Love love love Bangkok!!
