My first one was faulty out the box, the second one failed after a week, I repaired it and it developed a second fault - the brake relays failed. It's sold as German quality but inside it's all cheap Chinese rubbish.

At last.... A Wind turbine that can actually produce its advertised power! All too often, inexpensive turbines are barely able to produce even 1/10 their advertised output power. I do believe that the controller uses a pulse width modulator, which allows the turbine to produce much higher voltage than the battery. If the turbine spins up and produces 120 volts@20 amps, a pulse width modulator running at 50% duty cycle will convert that into 40 amps @ 56 volts. With that, the turbine has its best chance at producing advertised power. Most cheap systems use a simple rectifier bridge, connecting the alternator directly to the battery, and may have relays to divert the power from the batteries to a load resistor when a voltage threshold is reached. That limits the wind speed "window", where the wind is fast enough to generate power, and where the alternator current saturates, limiting current to the field strength of the magnets. With a direct connected alternator, the maximum current is the same, whether connected to a 12, 24, 36, or 48 volt battery. the only difference, is how fast the wind needs to blow, to spin fast enough, to drive current into the higher voltage batteries. Pulse width modulators match wattage to battery voltage, increasing current to lower voltage batteries. That allows full rated wattage into any battery voltage, and, allows some power to be produced at any wind speed. The only consideration is to make sure the output current rating of the controller is high enough, to produce rated power into a lower voltage, high capacity battery. (over 150 amps into a 12 volt battery!)

Sir, this is a great review and video in itself. Much appreciated !!! Actually your review helped me to decide, and I recently ordered my self, the exact same model of iSTA Breeze wind turbine. I have only one question, and I would really appreciate if you can answer it. I have the same AMP/VOLT meter that you use to show all the parameters, how exactly did you interfaced that between the wind turbine`s regulator/controller and your batteries bank ? I have a 48V batteries bank myself, and I would assume you have something similar. Thank you very much in advance for answering, and keep up the good work with your videos and reviews.

I have the simpler version of the controller, not the one you present in the video. It is the model with the red big rottary button for the brake on the front panel. So my question is, the voltage displayed on the left upper corner by the voltmeter's display is the voltage produced by the wind turbine ? Because my meter currently shows the battery voltage, when the wind turbine is not spinning. I just need to confirm that I connected the meter correctly. Inside the wind turbine controller I only have access to the 3 phases wires from the turbine, the solar panels connector, and the battery terminals connector. Thank you in advance.

    • @rmendes2mendes915

A 48 V battery bank has to go to at least 14.5 V per battery For the bulk charging cycle, so that’s 58 V then sure when it gets too float mode 54.4 is good but one thing I have learned by installing solar systems is that every single system I have tested even the ones I have not installed we all have the same problem, The specific gravity of the electrolyte in a flooded cell battery slowly diminishes within a year it drops a lot eventually the batteries go bad because of this. Why? Because it seems that none of the charge controllers even though some of them say they do a equalization charge once a month or so does not gas the batteries at a higher voltage for a long enough time to get there battery acid concentration level up to the 1.275 fully charged level. The controllers will see the voltage and stop charging the batteries based on voltage they don’t see the acid concentration level so when the voltage reaches the correct voltage it stops charging the batteries and goes to float mode and the acid never gets to the correct concentration level. The acid concentration level gives you your reserve capacity of the battery battery voltage is almost meaningless it’s the acid level that tells you how much power is in the battery so what I have to do is like once a month or so I have to manually charge the batteries for a longer period of time at A voltage where the battery is gassing until the acid level gets back up to the 1.275 level. I have found if I don’t do this eventually the capacity of the battery diminishes the voltage will always say the battery is fine but if you do a reserve capacity test On it it will not go the minutes that it is rated to go

So what do you suggest ? Is there a good solution ? I had lead acid batteries and now I switched to LiFePo4 , which are better ? In my amateur observation lead acid were good but they took a lot of space , I never had any problems in 7 years. Now i have lifepo for 1,5year only had problem one time when they lost voltage rapidly because there wasnt sun for period of 2 weeks . Now i have ista breeze with this controller and step up converter . The turbine is really good but i think there should be a constant converter inside controler that should deliver constant voltage , what do you think ? Oh , should mention that the system is off grid? I am considering to switch to rack batteries in about a year.

*All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity. And only at costs above 1$/kWh!*
There is hardly any wind near the ground. And it is also very gusty, which extremely reduces the lifetime of the turbines.
If you don't have to be self-sufficient in electricity, you shouldn´t use small wind turbine, but install solar panels.
*With solar panels, you can reliably generate electricity for about 5-10 cents/kWh over a period of 25 years!*

Someone who knows how much excess wind it cand stand? Mine is producing more than 2 kw, sometimes over 3 kw in gusts. Brake / heater is on. Tempersture outside is 3-4 degrees C. Would the generator tolerate 30-40 % more than rated power? The charge controller has no problems with heat due to cold and much wind.

    • @GOAE7777
      @GOAE7777 4 місяці тому

In colder weather, the generator cools more so that offsets its extra heat from running over spec. But the gauge of your wires may be a concern, as that heat may not be so readily removed depending on how the wires are routed to your house, and your wires may potentially be underrated for the current. Another concern is the voltage of the wires, as the RPM increases so too does the voltage, so your voltage is above spec and that may be an issue for the rectifiers (check their rated voltage) and in general safety since higher voltage can arc further, heat may also be an issue for the rectifiers if they are indoors but gusts are probably short. And lastly running faster than design may cause excessive wear on the bearings in the generator, but that's hard to quantify. Theoretically the system should protect itself by swiveling like it does during a storm, but this movement may not happen quick enough in a gust to mitigate any risk of damage. Unfortunately I can't give a definitive answer as to whether gusting to 3 kW will damage any electronics or start a fire, as there's just too many variables.

If you go for wind power DO NOT waste money and time mucking around with lower than 1kw and 12v, 24V type ; i wasted my money finding out the hard way. 48V system is the way to go and that requires 1kw or larger wind turbine. Even with the i1500 will do coupling with solar 48V system that will make the off grid system good to go with always power to spare. I know for sure because for years i had ran the whole house with 3kw inverter and solar on 48V system.
Wind turbine under 48v is a toy NOT for house use!!!!

Use Omni calculator (HAWT) to back calculate the likely windspeed based on the blade diameter..... you can't generate more power than is available at any given wind speed, based on it's claimed rating I'd say about 14/ms which is gale force and will only be available about 2% of the year 🤔

Hello, can you please help me. I have bought an Instabreeze 2kw 48v and I have a chinese Hybrid Controller 2kw 48v but it seems that it doesn't charge at all. When i connect only two wires it starts spinning and It shows that is charging but when i connect all 3 it slows down (no brake) and only charge up to 50w when outside are strong winds, no matter how strong they are the turbine is not spinning fast enough. The brake works fine and I had winds where it came active. I've tried to disconnect two wires, it starts spinning very fast when i connect the other two it still charging good for another minute then it slows down again for no reason, no break active. Thank you in advance. I have struggling for 1 month and still can't fix the issue.

the problem with the controller is what you have

The generator is a 3 phase alternator, therefore 3 wires. When you connect 2 wires, only one phase is connected and puts a small load on the generator. When the third wire is connected, all three phases are now putting a load on the generator and would require a wind speed 3 times as much to spin the generator at the same speed.
