This is funny, this is how I found your channel was looking on propagating these, and found your last ficus videos series, I like your approach on these videos
Thank you! I've been dialing in the propagating the last few years to the point where Im getting about 95% success rate. That's a guess but probably accurate. The only downside is you end up with a billion cuttings everywhere lol.
@@BonsaiBoise 🤣😂 I was thinking to myself while watching what on earth is he going to do with hundreds of cuttings, he must sell them on the side or something. I propagate alot of cuttings to supply my Nursery, so I do hundreds at a time.
Wow! That IS a beast. That pot’s not so bad. At 35 years old I think that maybe smoking stunted it’s growth ;-). Looking forward to seeing how it responds to your work. Thanks, keep growing
I love working with willow cuttings! They root super easy. Once you transplant them, I can tell you they love LOTS of water and lots of sun! Also they experience die back more than most, so don't be shocked if/when you get that. Lots of fun though. Cheers!
I believe it’s 35. I see a lot of these benjaminas for sale that are really old, but they never got a lot of light and they were rarely if ever fertilized, so their growth is stunted. Canadians don’t lie, so I believe the age from the sellers I see here 🤣😂 🐦💙
That’s a BEAST, brother! The taller few seem to be on the same side of the planting. Worst case scenario, if they don’t back bud, maybe you could separate the big ones out? Just a thought. I’m diggin it, Toy!
Thanks! I was thinking I might try and fuse those taller ones together and make it a really long term large size bonsai.unless they back bud in which case I'll air layer them off. Having lots of options is a good problem to have!
I purchased one like this from Facebook Market place too a while back.. I had to cut loads of him to get him in the house lol. I have left him to recover for now but was thinking of doing the same with mine. Im not a big Benjamina fan I prefer microcarpas because they are far more forgiving and they respond well to hard pruning and full defoliations. As you know with Benjaminas you have to leave some leaves on a branch otherwise it dies. Cant wait to see your updates on this :) many thanks!
Thanks Wes! I've had this pot sort of laying around for the past few years with nothing that really "fit" it's personality. Then this ficus behemoth showed up and bam! Perfect match.
Yeah part of me was a little skeptical too. But I guess if it's in bad conditions, it's possible that it could be that old. Still, I'm a little skeptical.
Amazing job!
Thank you! This was a fun one.

What a beauty. This has plenty of potential and those roots look great to me.
Thanks Tony! I never know what to expect out of these craigslist finds but this one is turning out to have some great potential.
I've just been on Facebook marketplace after watching your video but there is nothing. I'll definitely keep my eyes out for one though

I wonder that too. I'm not sure if smoking is bad for trees, but it can't be good!?
Think it is a nice find there, it have rich foliation which is a good sign of decent health. Good luck and look forward to see what develops.☺
Thanks! I have big hopes for this one.
That is a beast!! Great trim back on it. Hope that you get some good back budding.
Thank you! So far so good. Stuck in it the greenhouse for awhile.
cant wait to see what this looks like in 5 years. awesome job and can't wait to see what you do with it in the future :)
Thank you! I'll post some updates after awhile and show how it's doing.
I really enjoyed this video thanks for sharing 👍
You bet!
Great job! Thank you for the tips on this ficus. I’ve always had problems with the Benjamina, I cannot keep them alive.
As long as they don't get too cold and they have good drainage, they're pretty hardy. But one night of cold and poof! Years of work down the drain.
Awesome i like the clump style!
Nice tree but way ahead of my time I’m starting with a few willow cuts from scratch but god bless ya 😊 any advice on willows is greatly appreciated

@@BonsaiBoise rooting as we speak yes there super easy and from what I researched there a hearty plant

Yeah I think it's pretty close even if not exactly 35. I could tell it hadn't moved much so it very well could be that old.

Skyscraper bonsai. Or literati style haha. I can't wait to see how this develops in the future.
I'll post some updates after awhile!

I agree with you on microcarpas! Also I like the way they look a little better. Boy if I ever find a huge microcarpas, take all my monies!
@@BonsaiBoise hahaha yeah a huge one would be great lol..I also love Ficus religiosas too they are super easy to propagate from cuttings.
I love the pot
Thanks Wes! I've had this pot sort of laying around for the past few years with nothing that really "fit" it's personality. Then this ficus behemoth showed up and bam! Perfect match.
You could try to fuse it into a twin trunk, as far as I can see.

What a fun bonsai project! But 35 years? Nahh i got benjamina that are 4 years that are thicker than those.
