The “tell” that Noem provides in her book that her actions were childish and emotionally based comes from her statement that she “Hated” the dog and goat. She made a lethal decision based on her emotions because she was pissed off by an animal for doing what that animal would normally do without intervention or training. This is not evidence of someone who makes well-reasoned tough and difficult decisions, it is evidence of a child who will make emotionally lethal decisions based on who or what offends her.

Joking aside, I have had many dogs attack me over the years. I don't blame the dogs, I blame the owners. There's no excuse for letting an untrained dog get close enough to someone to attack them. That's what leashes are for, and no dog should ever be off a leash in public unless it is very well trained.
If you just don't react to the attack, the dog will lose interest and will not hurt you. You might get a tiny scratch at the worst. As long as the dog isn't rabid or otherwise diseased, you'll be fine.
Most of the damage when a dog attacks is done by you when you try to jerk your arm away from them, which pulls your flesh into their sharp teeth, and also triggers their tug instinct, and causes them to shake their head violently. Then the combined strength of the dog jerking away from you, and you pulling away from the dog gets concentrated into their teeth and rips through your flesh. You're doing most of the work yourself. It's like putting your arm behind a nail that is sticking through a board, and then trying to jerk your arm backward through the nail. You'll impale yourself and hurt yourself on the nail.
If you just sit there and don't react, or even push your arm further into their mouth, they don't know how to react, and they just let go and back away.
I assume your intent here is to try to defend Kristi Noem. Noem never claimed that this dog had attacked any people. She was upset because the untrained puppy ruined her bird hunt, and then attacked chickens.
Any untrained dog will attack chickens. The breed she got was specifically bred to hunt birds. It's in its nature to attack birds. Any German wirehaired pointer that is not well trained will attack and kill chickens. They should never be around chickens off a leash.
It was a puppy. A 14 month old dog is still a baby. You can't call a 14 month old puppy untrainable. It's not even old enough to be fully trained.
That's like designating a 5 year old child a dunce because he can't comprehend the nuances of Tolstoy's writing, or do advanced calculus.
It's very telling that she believes bragging about shooting a happy, energetic puppy and a smelly goat is a huge political win.

Noem tries to act like an experienced farmer and hunter who has knowledge of how to train and handle hunting dogs and other animals. I finally was able to read exactly what she wrote in her book. She said this 14-month-old pup was taken on a pheasant hunt with others and went totally out of control. Leaving the hunt Noem stopped by a neighbor with chickens and let Cricket out of the vehicle and in her excitement (after all to Cricket there was little difference between a pheasant and a chicken considering the training she had received), she killed some of the chickens. As Noem drove home, she observed that the dog was so happy and proud Noem hated Cricket and then killed her. Then she added that Cricket attacked people and bit them (so let me get this straight Noem took a dog on a hunt with others that had attacked and injured people). With her other lies I am not buying that. Cricket as a pup may have nipped at someone but Cujo she wasn’t. I am no dog trainer, but I have introduced a fair amount of my dogs to pheasant hunting. My first rule is that they do not go on a hunt until they are at least 2 years old. Until you have trained the dog to focus on you and respond to your commands the sheer chaos and violence of a hunt will overwhelm even the best inexperienced dog. One that is really just a one-year-old pup has no chance. When I am alone, I will take out a pup the age of Cricket to introduce her to the fields and the wildlife and take a starter pistol to shoot now and again to encourage her not to become gun-shy. But until the dog is over two years of age it must be fun for her and her task is to learn to focus on me for leadership and direction.
Noam is a shellfish child and is a cruel sadistic person. I had a family member who took a 2-year-old hunting dog on a large hunt and totally ignored it. It became freaked out over the gunshots and violence which caused her to run off. A farmer picked her up just before she entered the interstate. We got her back, but my family member was still so focused on his buddies and his success hunting that he continued to ignore her. Once this happened my hunt was over, and I took the dog (a golden) under my wing. I got rid of my gun and tried to show her a good time. She never would hunt again but did lead a good long life as a house pet. This happened about 20 years ago and I have lost a great deal of respect for this family member.
Given Noem’s immaturity, stupidity, and lack of caring about anything but herself poor Cricket never had a chance. Noem was responsible for teaching Cricket to kill chickens. Cricket learned that lesson well. The poor dog was not counting on the reward Noem gave her.
Why would a psychopath be disqualified in the eyes of a sociopath? Wouldn't that make them soulmates, or rather soulless mates?
