Cheers For Peers!

In this third video of "The Five 'P's' of Inclusion" Series, this video looks at the critical role of PEERS to our understanding of inclusion. In this video we try and advocate to move away from one-to-on adult support and towards meaningful and balancing peer connection and mutual learning.

Thank you, Shelley! Agreed! I love it when the staff share the good news in that the EA was able to step away. But, I will still advocate for 1:1 and clarify for what you express here. Because...I need to verify that the support is accounted for when needed. And that need is highly dependant on where the staff is in their evolution to inclusion, as a whole team. Peers have always been awesome. When my son was forced out of his catchment school in his kindergarten overage year ( overage, meaning it’s not an option rather in lieu of grade one) it was the peers that advocated for understanding in why L had to leave their class, their school, their community.

This is all well and good for kids who do not need help to communicate, my kids are both non-speaking and need Communication Partners to function. I feel that sometimes kids with more complex needs and supports are not addressed in the inclusion classroom. Would love for you to do a segment on supported typers, non-speaking students.
