An Eddie Harris tune - 60 years ago. But what an icredible arrangement for each voice. And a like especially what the bass did - lays a small net of tones over it. great & thx for sharing such a vid.
This is a great tune from Les McCann Eddie Harris the original was a burner as well. Carlton may have played on that version. I looks to me like he just dumped a gallon of Gas on his Head lit it and played his Solo. Kirk well….Kirk . Mmm. Thanks for this . Peace
They skip a beat right?? During the guitar break at 3:06 - 3:12? It sounds almost like they played the and of 4 as the 1, cause they all come in a half beat too early at 3:12... but they all come in at the same time, so it's not that they all made the exact same mistake at the exact same time... maybe everyone heard the drummer count it wrong and followed him?
they really changed the feel of the song. I like it, but they are too in to themselves when they play. I really just hate guitar players I guess, but this guy sounds like he is just playing to impress.
+coreymcmusic that is called feeling...from the guitar player to the bass player a great drummer etc.....if you were a musician you would understand it as it should be....do not get caught up on expressions that are actually normal ones...this is a great piece of music.......extremely professionally played.....GREAT STUFF LOTS OF FEELING!!!!
+coreymcmusic sorry I meant a true musician......:) one simple exercise for you....just close you eyes and enjoy the music....you will see......else every musician always makes some kind of face expression while inspired......hahaha!! you crack me up!!!....it appears you are new to music..... but that is fine nobody knows everything...
I can tell you as a musician are too uptight m that refrains you from becoming better.....losing up be free, be humble n you will be a a real musician....!
Early shout-out to the rhythm section- I'm here for that.
The master of tone and exquisite taste.
Just how good is Larry Carlton? This performance illustrates the answer so well. He's superb.
Great stuff!
Smooth, supersmooth and precise, with a lot of space for the drummer. He fild up with excellent variations.
Billy Kilson on drums
RIP Rick Jackson. A truly magnificent keyboardist.
I am a keyboard play for two jazz bands and this is great to learn this song with whilst playing along.
Billy Kilson is such an overlooked percussionist. He's excellent.
Heard him in the nineties with Steps Ahead. Impossible to overlook him, he was brillant. He plays with the best musicians. ❤

Great playing all around. Kirk especially nailed that one to the wall.
Larry is as good a jazz/blues guitarist as there is. The man is a legend.
He's not a jazzer
Love the sax solo and Kirk starts by singing through the horn....

Great Jam Jazz & Blues Session!
Kirk Whalum is numero-uno on sax! Another David Sanborn! Such earthiness, and soul!!!
I would have killed to hear a piano solo on this one.

It's jazz, man. There can't be any mistakes. Sounds perfectly syncopated to me.
Nope, there’s a full four in there. Larry just really syncopates that bit. So nasty.
Who's the bassman? Sweet.
Does anyone know the name of that drummer?
+Skildert H.
billy kilson
+the CRAZFOX10 I just heard his introduction of the band lol, I should've payed attention! Nevertheless; thanks!

Ok 1st you murdered the tempo…hmph.
Hmmmm ... I think you murdered your comment~!~
What an awful bass tone.
+TaRAAASHBAGS how so?
Very flat and understated for such a punchy, bubbly tune. Sounds like my bass but wallowing in suicidal sorrow.
I mean I'm not big on it either, but it's a taste thing, dude.
@@TaRAAASHBAGS Boy,, did you pick the right handle/youtube name ............. ~DESPARATE-0~ !!! lol!!!
