I don't know why but I feel like I would just buy a second acoustic guitar and just keep it consistently and drop d tuning that way I don't have to fiddle with my other guitar because I'm worried that I might make the strings break
Most guitars can easily handle drop-d tuning. There's a difference in tension, but if any strings break as a result, that's a sign the strings were in bad shape or that there's a problem with the guitar. As for retuning, that becomes easier with ear training and getting faster at tuning by ear in general.
