Apple have finally priced me out of their eco land. I have pre ordered the one plus 2. After forever as a fanboy I now have a Google pixel 8 pro (absolutely love it) and can’t wait to get my new pad.
I just got mine set up and I think you’re going to be very happy with the performance of the pad. I however can’t not recommend strongly enough to get a proper folio case for this pad. All OP products are Teflon slick.
The fact that this has the top/current flagship SD chip for $499/£499 is really unheard of. Add that to a big bright high res display and massive battery and a fluid OS, if you're not a Apple fanboy then it's really hard to make a case against it.

I bought the OnePlus pad last year after having an iPad for years. Quite simply the OnePlus pad is fantastic and at more or less half the price is a no brainer. Mine came with a free Magnetic Qwerty Keyboard worth £149 which was a nice bonus. If you're thinking of leaving the Apple Eco System this new OnePlus pad 2 would be a great option.
As far as I’m concerned, most people who buy the Pad 2 do it because it’s not an iPad and not necessarily because of its price or feature set. This Android tablet seems to be really good and I have nothing against it. Having said that, I admit I’m an Apple fanboy but that doesn’t mean that I buy the latest, greatest offerings from Apple every year nor do I overlook any shortcomings or faults with their products. I like their ecosystem and it lets me do everything I need in work and in play. But I buy the “cheapest” version of what I like and I keep it forever. And whatever doesn’t work or suit my needs any longer, I don’t rush out to replace it. In fact, I suppliment those things with products from different companies at times. So I like to call it being a pragmatic Apple fanboy. They really do work for me but I’m not star struck.
what I like about the oneplus pad is that it's the only Android tablet to have the same aspect ratio as the iPad, which is better than the 16.10 for portrait use
The problem is, the Apps on the Ipad like procreate, feather 3d, private LLM apps that work fantastically on it, the longevity of it because of the M-chip is what sells me for the Ipad, other than that, the oneplus pad 2 is the best priced tablet. In china, it can reach up to 1 tb storage, but it's the oppo pad pro, not oneplus pad 2, so I hope for more storage options to be available.
In fact, I own last year's version of the OnePlus pad and I've been very happy with it. Frankly, this year's version is Superior in nearly every way but, I'm going to stay with last year's model. Primarily, I use tablets for entertainment purposes so, I feel no need to upgrade.
Great review and quite informative. I finally decided to replace my old Samsung tablet (S3) and watch (2) recently. The minimize and back (touch) buttons on the S3 has failed and the touch screes on the right half of the watch has also failed. About a year ago, I bought the Oneplus 11 phone and loved it, and therefore opted to go with the Oneplus tab 2, the 2R watch, the ear buds, pen and keyboard. The introductory discount reduced the overall price by about 25%. All items were mailed to me about 3 weeks ago. For my use, these items are well worth the $. Considering the costs, the product quality and finish are exceptional. The samsung S3 tablet and watch 2 actually costs considerably more than the Oneplus replacements. Who would have thought!!
Great looking product When I reach for my iPad mini I want it to reflect what my iPhone provides. Having one eco system is a huge plus for me. So going Android is not something I can be bothered to do especially as my main computer is an excellent Mac Mini M1
Great video, Mark. I’m an Apple ecosystem prisoner and use the iPad Pro 11” (M1) for work (MS 365 apps online) and play (TV, films, iBooks, UA-cam, games, etc). It’s the (almost) perfect device and I never use my MBP anymore. I would definitely consider the OnePlus Pad 2 when it comes to upgrade. The level of customisation on Android is phenomenal, never mind the rubbish that is iPadOS 18, using Nova Launcher on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is amazing. Icon sizes, placement, themes etc. I use the Magic Keyboard and connect to a monitor and use Stage Manager for work apps and use Notes when in client meetings. One frustration with the iPad Pro is when in MS 365 Outlook - you can’t click on links within emails. Extremely frustrating. How good are MS Office apps running on the OnePlus Pad 2?
It was said that you could get two accessories and the Pad for little less than $500 in the US, while I could not grab/find that deal, I was able to get the early bird coupon and bought it for $399 two weeks ago. If you ever revisit could you talk about the stylus and its technology? In case the stylo 2 is out of stock, what other compatible styluses could we look into?
The main deterrent is how long is it supported. My iPad Air 2 is still supported by security updates so can access banking apps. I bought it in 2016 so it is soon to be a decade old. I expect m1 iPads to work fine in 10 years too
I've always been a price to performance oriented person. OnePlus has almost always been my go to brand since the OnePlus 5. After learning from their mistakes between the 8-10 lines of phones, they've returned to their roots on being that price to performance brand. Especially with their pre-order discounts and perks, it's hard to say that there's many better options out there. I currently daily drive the OnePlus 11, Watch 2 and Buds Pro 2 and couldn't be happier about them
Apple sheep, me and the wife have iPad airs (m2+m1) but this is perfect for my daughter with the pen included for £405 (with discounts), she can play all the games with apks of questionable origin)
I am an Apple fan I will most likely go blindly for the iPad Air but I am also tempted by the one+ pad 2 as I am attracted to the price and curious to try out android on a tablet
I traded in last year's OnePlus pad and pre-ordered this year's. Got the new pad, case, and the keyboard for $270. Great deal! This pad is also 120hz and the Air is 60hz. The preorder deal is a no-brainer for non Apple people.
Considering this, the one plus pad 1 (down to 300 quid) or the samsung s9 fe. For my daughter who mostly watches youtube, plays games like roblox and likes to draw. Suggestion? Oh and how is it watching youtube on the 7:5 ratio?
I totally can relate to being kind of an Apple nut 😂 I love my combination of now iPhone 15 Pro Max, AppleWatch and AirPod Pro. Running similar combinations since years and will never change anything there. Had an iPad a few years ago but didn’t seem to need another device in my little Apple ecosystem. So I went for an Android Tablet and love that I can load any trash I want on it … similar to my Windows PC. Works well for me and I needed a new Tablet and went for the OnePlus which was shipped today so nxt week I will have it. With that preorder deal and that snapdragon it was a total no brainer for me. I can recommend every Apple Phone/Tablet/Watch but not MacBook/Mac User to give an AndroidTablet a chance
I almost only use tablets for media consumption. And while I have an iPhone and the thought of an iPad is intriguing, I know I won’t need one. Netflix and UA-cam etc is just as good on an android tablet, and sometimes even better. And that’s a lot of money for something I really don’t need. My cheap Xiaomi pad 5 isn’t anything special, but it has a very good display and a very good battery.
I'll be honest, in every review i have seen of this OnePlus pad 2 the stylus doesn't seem as latency -free as others like the Huawei Matepad 11.5s that I have. I was wondering about returning it and replacing it with this oneplus pad 2 but AS A STUDENT, who must take tons of notes, the experience with the stylus is very important. Still, I'd be very glad to hear your opinion about this topic.
I have a One Plus Pad 1st generation and one big issue I don’t like is many of the apps are still not optimized or even made for Android, there is no USB-3 or Thunderbolt output for Monitor support all which exist on the iPad. I have both and never use the One Plus. It is a nice tablet but there are shortcomings.
i use my iPad for music production. As of 2024 the support for synth / DAW apps on iOS is far more mature than on android and it works well. So for my use case, this isn't for me, but not because of the hardware. Hopefully over time that will improve on android.
Enjoyed that review. I pre ordered mine 2 days ago and i didn't realise that the keyboard that came free with it had a back cover stand also so i ordered the folio case also,my mistake.. i should have chose the pen for the extra money. I bought an s9 tab ultra a couple of months ago, which is a beast. This might sound silly but i never use it because of it size ( I didn't get to see it up front before buying it) it is way too big and heavy to have comfort with it by just picking it up here and there and using it at ease. Sounds terrible eh? But this probably will probably suit me better.
For working the best android tablet at the momen. But for multimedia, playing games, netflix, watching youtube videos and so on i prefer the xiaomi pad 6 / 6 pro.
I’ve not had an Android tablet in years, It was just Android phone software stretched across the screen, Any difference now? I’m ready to chin off Apple now
i am planning to buy a good tablet for watching movies . As most of the tablets have black screens I need a good tablet suggestion which as good aspect ratio Im planning to go for mid range tablets like s9fe and one plus pad Please suggest My only purpose is watching movies with best quality as possible in these tablets with less black bars on screen
The Pad 2 is great value no doubt but I’m still taking the M2 Air. The M2 chip, optimized and Pro tablet apps, 5G option as well as longer software support is too good for me to abandon.
Pad 2 is defo a flagship killer. There is no need to spend ridiculous money on apple, or slightly ridiculous money on Samsung (Samsung the only manufacturer who don't rip you off by making you pay a tonne for your stylus) when this thing exists.
i have a huge problem which idk if its a "feature" or not, whenever i rotate or an app opens in a different way the refresh rate goes down to 60 even if i exit it, the 9nly way to reset to 120hz is 5o go to settings (currently set to high) select 60 and again high and works again, any1 with this????
I am an ecosystem person. I have tried Honor, OnePlus and one thing keeps me going back to Apple. Ecosystem. There is a simple way to do everything in the apple ecosystem. It is virtually impossible to start an email on one device and finish on another in android. Secondly, I do not like it when I am the product. So I would rather pay my apple tax and not worry about hunting down every single opt out. Finally - nothing comes close to re sale value, trade in value and apple care as far as I can see. Battery below 80%, walk in get it fixed. Dropped your iPad, no worries, here is a brand new one without that day one scratch you put on it. #end apple sheep rant
And I hate any kind of eco system. I like to fiddle with my devices and do things my own way. I've always viewed apple products as dumbed down devices for elderly people. Or for those who just use their devices to watch media, read ebooks and write mails. Which covers most of the people. I like to sideload apps. Pirate stuff I don't want to pay for including movies and TV Shows. I torrent a lot. I like to play with retro gaming emulators. I like to plug in my devices to any PC or Mac and copy everything without any issues. All these things are not possible in apple eco system OR they are annoying to do.
@@kipa_chuI used to be like you. I hated Apple with a passion. High priced devices that you have no 100% control of. I liked tinkering stuff and done MY WAY. As I grew older though, I realized that I didn’t have the passion, the patience nor the time to do that stuff all the time anymore whenever I have a new device or tinker with an existing one. I just wanted a device that worked great and seamlessly out of the box hence I moved to the Apple ecosystem. I still have a gaming pc but everything else is basically Apple now. It may be a “walled garden” but I’m loving it here and I’ve actually had no yearning to go back to Android for the better part of 8 years now surprisingly.
According to other reviews, it has issues with auto rotate, touch and swap registration. The actual battery capacity is 8900mah, not 9510mah. Also, the fast charging is proprietary and not supported by most chargers. The original charger may not be included. The supplied charging cable is a weird red and white color that does not match the tablet. In some cases, there is also an unreasonably low Wi-Fi speed that does not meet the stated standards.
i was literally gonna order this last night until i realized there's no fingerprint reader. like wot m8? that killed it for me. Instantly closed the webshop page in disappointment.
Don't some UA-cam product reviewers bored of themselves when they make weird facial impressions to attract viewers? Quality of the video will guarantee more subscribers not how much stretched your face is.
We do everything for a reason. You’re right - a quality video will ensure people hang around and actually watch the content (and, hopefully, subscribe), but to attract attention in the first place, one must use clickbait and eye-catching thumbnails. Until the entire world changes, this is how it works, mate. I hope the quality of my videos shines through.
@@MarkEllisReviews I don't think that many people watch your review because how your thumbnail looks. The beginning of the video is more important . It does either keep you watching or not. Also your personality makes big difference. This feedback from someone who watches many many reviews.
@OzgunDoganbaloglu the hook is indeed vitally important. Those first few frames often replace the thumbnail in feeds. I appreciate all feedback, but please bear in mind that we're running businesses and have strategies that have been worked on for many years. Everything we do is deliberate and a result of lots of testing. Thanks for watching and engaging.
On paper, Android tablets are great, but they are often let down by the apps, where so many are designed around the smartphone form factor and the tablet is after thought. Gaming on an android tablet can also be challenge, as many games are designed around a touch interface and don't come with native game pad support. And then there is Android OS updates or the lack of them, where you may get 2 - 3 years at best, with a few exceptions such as the Google Pixel tablet (which I have in my Kitchen) where you will get around 5 years. As consequence, even though I find Apple an exceptionally annoying and arrogant company, I still tend to gravitate towards iPads.
The problem is is - It has screen ratio of the Ipad - no good to watch films - no good for the basic medium consumption. I have to have Ipad for one non android app (Asensei) - apart from that i do not use it. Samsung s9 is way better with everything normal people use tablets for.
@@esm7708 buy them refurbished from Woot. I got a 12.9” Magic Keyboard for $129 and it’s like new and even came In the retail Apple box. I have a One Plus Pad and the track pad it atrocious compared to the Apple one. Also NO backlight. You get what you pay for.
This discussion is super reductive. There are meaningful differences in OS and more importantly privacy. One plus is only supporting their first gen pad for 3 OS updates as well. They also have drastically changed their UI in the past in ways that many in North America and Europe were not pleased with.
@@MarkEllisReviews For sure. The hardware is great. I’ve liked their software as well. I just think the framing of the conversation was off. There are pretty compelling reasons to pass on this thing.

I have ipads when they first came out, I desperately want to get away from it, but apple had got me hooked permanently on it. The Apps!!, developed so much on it, I jest cannot move away. I am doomed
What would it take for you to switch from your iPad to an Android tablet like the Pad 2?
Nothing, I already switched from iPad air 5 and I am happy, especially with the 144hrz screen.

It may be a “walled garden” but I’m loving it here and I’ve actually had no yearning to go back to Android for the better part of 8 years now surprisingly.
make a comparison on this and ipad pro
Like your voice 👍
It seems it doesn't have a gorilla screen so need to put a screen protector to avoid easy scratchs on the display
Pity it's an LCD screen otherwise very tempting. Although I just use tablets for entertainment so would not need the pen or keyboard.
how is that oneplus watch 2R i see on your wrist 👀?
Review coming soon!
Why is there no SD Card!?!
Why no details about the quality in watching movies?
Can anyone explain please
Didn’t I mention that I’m considering making it my content device of choice? That says it all, doesn’t it?!
Please consider increasing your volume.
Instantly closed the webshop page in disappointment.
apple sheep here but thats real nice also.
Oneplus Pad 2 or Samsung S9 FE plus?
I just returned my s9 fe+ and got this instead
@@MarkEllisReviews Thank you for valuing my opponion and lengthy reply. All the best.
Does it have PC mode like Samsung Dex ? Can it connect to external monitor and extend the display ?
6:38 OnePlus Nord Buds 3 Pro. Not OnePlus Buds 3 Pro
Let’s not split hairs.
@@MarkEllisReviews I'm just saying. They're 2 different products. I like your video!
I’m joshing with you ;) Glad you enjoyed it!
£299 for the apple keyboard is genuinely criminal.
This one is optimised better . I'm typing on it rn
The problem is is - It has screen ratio of the Ipad - no good to watch films - no good for the basic medium consumption. I have to have Ipad for one non android app (Asensei) - apart from that i do not use it. Samsung s9 is way better with everything normal people use tablets for.
not to mention that the tab S9 has oled screen and 1+ is still using lcd
@@Dattr85double the price of the pad 2 with half the storage - not worth it just for oled
It was on sale with same price as oneplus pad 2 in india. Just bought one
Nice video
Apple oem accessories kill the ipad. £300 at least for the magic keyboard.
I am so much hesitant .. this tab 2 or the air m2 11'. .. but the price is stopping me. Now i got the ipad mini 6. .. what to do 🤯
If only they offered an Azerty version of the keyboard, I would have instantly bought it. Not gonna mess around redoing the keyboard myself 😅
This discussion is super reductive. There are meaningful differences in OS and more importantly privacy. One plus is only supporting their first gen pad for 3 OS updates as well. They also have drastically changed their UI in the past in ways that many in North America and Europe were not pleased with.
I think it’s a great tablet - one of the best I’ve used 🤷♂️
@@MarkEllisReviews For sure. The hardware is great. I’ve liked their software as well. I just think the framing of the conversation was off. There are pretty compelling reasons to pass on this thing.
android is shite for apps
I love how every review is literally like "this display is brilliant, because of 900 nits" and call it a day. No other data is mentioned (deltaE deviations, contrast, pixel response times, black value, sub-pixel arrangement, brightness regulation method, and so on)
I was going to mention that stuff... but then I realised I'd rather connect my teeth to the mains, mate.
I am the type of person who will go for anything NOT Apple! 😂
Leave me alone with password managers, not safe, there is only one possible safe option and that is a piece of paper
Oh my word. If anyone is passing by reading this, please do not follow this advice.
Mate!
Get a OnePlus 12 along with this and it's a match made in haven.
I have ipads when they first came out, I desperately want to get away from it, but apple had got me hooked permanently on it. The Apps!!, developed so much on it, I jest cannot move away. I am doomed
