    Good stuff! I'm surprised how well it flew on one motor, considering there's no rudder. lol You motivated me to inspect mine, I found a crack in the left motor mount. Time to replace them I guess!

    Probably a good thing that the ESC got shorted out by the screws or that motor would have been chewing your wing all the way back. Nice save!

    Same exact motor that came loose on mine too. In my case, it was the PNP version before the new motor pods and gasket setup with 4 screws instead of just the two. I found the screws rolling around inside the pod. And my setup was stock motors. It's good to see it can actually fly with one motor out! My motor ejected itself during auto launch and the plane crashed right away.

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Рік тому +1

      Seems it's a very common problem, had numerous people comment saying their motors also fell off. Wonder if the problem was more common on the older versions? Mine was a V1 (from the original pre-sale) so didn't have any upgrades at all. Sounds like yours was a earlier version too? Hopefully the crash didn't do too much damage?

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi Рік тому +1

      @@gizfpv I was extremely lucky. The auto launch did not get far or very high at all, so the plane more or less had a gentle crash and fall to the ground on its belly. The screws did not touch the ESC so they survived. I contacted heewing about this and they directed me to their new v2 motor pods with 4x screws and the gasket backer, and they gave me a 50% discount to pick them up. This is not an issue I’ve seen mentioned in any review, so I figured I was just unlucky. I am also new to fixed wing, the heewing was my first PNP plane and I bought it from banggood in September of 2022. Apparently I’m not alone, based on all of your comments! Maybe thinking of maybe sharing my story now as well. My friend ordered one of these from RDQ as well and he ended up with the V1 motor pods as well. I suspect there’s a lot of them out there. He immediately replaced it after knowing what happened to mine.
      Heewing also acknowledges in their literature on the V2 pods “a second set of screw holes was added to strengthen the installation stability.” So I take that as them knowing this is a problem. I was definitely perplexed to find that the motors were only held in by two screws against plastic anyway. 😕

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Рік тому +1

      @@JohnCuppi I guess none of the reviewer's mentioned this problem because it took a while to happen. I was one of the first people to get the T1 when it came out, and yet it's taken close to 14 months for the problem to happen to me. Kudos to HeeWing for acknowledging the problem and finding a solution though. And for also sorting you out at a discount, that's decent of them. I've just today ordered a brand new T1 PNP. Mines has had a lot of use of the past year or so and is looking a bit tired. Figure it's time for a new airframe, that'll hopefully come with the upgrades as standard 🤞🙂

    those stock propellers aren't the best balanced props. I replaced mine with some hq t4025 and I could notice vibrations are reduced.
    There should also be a glassfiber (or some other hard material) plate behind the motor mount so the screws can't rip through the plastic mount.

    Those screws shorting out your esc, saved your plane.
    If the motor had carried on powered up, the thrust from the motor hanging out would surely cause unrecoverable loss of control .

  • @Videolinquency
    @Videolinquency Рік тому +1

    Respect; the outward spinning props made that save even harder. I have reversed mine to inward spin just for that reason. A single prop will induce both yaw and roll forces. If it spins inwards, those two forces will counteract each other. If it spins outwards, they will work in the same direction and add to each other. Mandatory knowledge for multi rated pilots, but sadly not for model aircraft manufacturers.

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Рік тому +2

      That is actually a really smart idea! I would have never have thought of changing the motor direction. I'm going to make this change to limit the chance of this problem happening again. Very clever bro 👍

    Imagine if the screws didn’t short that Esc and the motor was whipping around while trying to fly back. I had a prop break on my nano talon after launch and it chopped up the tail of the plane but managed to glide it back home.

    • @jimmytheriot8978

    • @afterburnerrc6333
      @afterburnerrc6333 Рік тому

      Yep was also thinking if it wasn't for the short taking out the ESC he most likely would have lost the plane. I honestly would have shrink-wrapped those ESCs at build but now it makes me wonder if it's a good idea anymore LOL. Would be cool if INAV could monitor motor voltage for say a out of balance prop/motor or tell if a motor stutters or gets jammed, it could potentially shut a motor down to save a plane, especially in a dual motor scenario.

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Рік тому +1

      Yeah for sure. In a weird way I guess I was quite lucky. If that motor had kept spinning it could have potentially torn chucks out of the wing or even severed the servo cable. Then I definitely wouldn't have got it back

  • @GhostRyderFPV
    @GhostRyderFPV Рік тому +1

    What a lovely day for a flight! ;-D
    Maybe a lot of heat was being transferred to the screws from that motor, as a result of the dodgy prop and optimistic PIFF's, loosening the Threadlock. I'd say the shorted ESC also saved the foam, the wing, maybe the plane, from being eaten by said dodgy prop.
    Also, those houses are stunning, and some of them enormous! What happens if you go down on (what I assume to be) their land? Is all of that gorgeousness accessible?

    • @collinw24
      @collinw24 Рік тому +1

      I lost a 1.5m twin motor custom build for exactly this reason. Motors running warm, heat transferred through the screws and pulled the threads out of the plastic mount.

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Рік тому +1

      Interestingly I did notice when doing the 2nd lot of repairs that the left motor mount (not the one that was effected in this flight) is a little wobbly. It's not significant, but there it can certainly wiggle a little. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about atm, but I'll keep an eye on it

      I can't say I've noticed any difference between the V1 or the V2 antenna's to be honest. Maybe there's a difference if you fly behind objects quite a lot? But with the type of flying I do they seem to be much the same in terms of performance

    Miracle it didn't go in TBH. If the dangling motor had kept running it would have.
    1)..So, is that REAL blue Loctite? Or blue coloured Chinese stuff?
    2)..Did you balance your props?
    3)..Prop screws looked overtightened, which in turn split the hub...?
    4)..Loctite blue low strength melts at fairly low temps. So did the motors get hot?
    🤔😳😳🤔🤔🇬🇧

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Рік тому +1

      I have no idea if its real locktite or just blue paint 😂 It's whatever Heewing applied in the factory. I can't say I typically check the motor temperatures after flight, but as I typically fly at cruise throttle I'd be surprised if they were getting hot. I'll keep an eye on this in future though because as you said, excessive heat could melt the locktite. Admittedly I've never balanced the props, I just threw a brand new pair on the day I built this aircraft (March 2022) I never gave them a second thought. As for the prop screws being too tight, I don't think that's the case, but I can't say for sure. If they were too tight and that caused the crack, then the aircraft has probably been flying with a cracked prop for a very long time lol

    • @EnglishTurbines
      @EnglishTurbines Рік тому

      @@gizfpv My suggestion?...Buy a small bottle of REAL Loctite and apply to ALL your bolts including the prop bolts. This way you can rest assured they won't loosen, and you won't be tempted to overtighten them....Buy a prop balancer, new props are often out, just sand the heavy blade...The axle type with brass cones are best, balance any prop regardless of prop shaft size....🤔😏😏🇬🇧
