I am convinced that Afrikaans is to to the nations of South Africa and The Netherlands what Cajun, Creole, and Quebec French/Acadian are to the USA and France.
Lovely video Sentimetal, great photography & story telling. By the way, only 100 Can-Ams were built, inclusive of the three race cars & two rally cars.
I'm a petrol head of 58 yrs and had never heard of these, though Viva GT, Brabham and Firenza Droop Snoot. I have always looked at the engine bay and thought they were crying out for a small block chevy or a LS6.
Awesome beauty!! Remember them when I was in primary school when they launched them. Had the priveliege to get a spin in one in Vanderbijlpark in 1997 and it was a BLAST!!! Never realized how powerful it really was and still is. Needs rto be properly handled, unlike modern cars with AWD or FWD where you think you can drive well and the car actually does most of the driving. RESPECT!!!!!
Growing up in the small town Welgedag, the Vos brothers passed our house daily, and as children we loved hearing the V8's roaring down the street, good mems
What a beaut....the capri perranna killer. This was/is an annimal, and true to his word, if you do not know how to drive it, hands off. This car will shame you in a flash. Ai, dankie vir die goeie Afrikaans, heimwee hier uit n verre land. Pas daai karre op, weet jy sal.
That's a 70's Vauxhall Viva here. In New Zealand we only got the 1100/1300cc motor that blew head gaskets every time it got hot. I would have loved to transplant a better motor in like this. Handled better than my Avenger coupe but with it alread being tail happy I hate to think how a heavier engine was in the wet.
When I was at school in the late 90s there was one across the road from Rhenish high school in Stellenbosch standing under the af dakkie in front of a house. It was parked with its side facing the road, stunning side profile, reminds me of Escort MkII 1600 Sport. Same colour as the one the oom drives in the Vid, Spotless 👌🏻
Shame it didn't get the Firenza Droop Snoot Wayne Cherry designed, might have been capable of 160mph+ with the right gearing and some over the counter GM Performance parts designed for the Z/28 or Formula 5000 program screaming out 465+HP.
Wat het van die Vos broers geword het en hoe dit gekom het dat hulle verkoop het.... Jare terug n program op TV van hulle gesien. Het dit nog iewers. Hulle was gek oor daai 2 can-am's!
1:46 "It's nice to play with it, and you can give lots of guys on fast motorbikes a good scare with a Chevrolet (South Africa) Firenza Can Am." Second Random Biker That Rides A Barbarian Motorcycle: "Me too."
Alride this video makes now sense tome. Result of what language? Remember I am note one who can speak foreigners with ease as one can sea iam a native English speaker. Perhaps please we wish for suptitels or a English voiceover in words for us to be familiar with. Idid speak to Mat Watson about this some time ago now hedoes all his words in English so iam able to understand. This car is grate and I say to all that ido wish for such a great quality of movie and such a amazing car. Blessit and bless you.
Great video but exclusive to people who know Afrikaans. Cars.co.za you really should have included subtitles to cater for most of the audience. UA-cam Captions are poor
I honestly hate the spoiler that is on the Chevrolet (South Africa) Firenza Can Am. Honestly, a spoiler that is more akin to what a Chevrolet (USA) Camaro had from around the 1967-1969 or 1970-1981 periods, and ditto for the Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am from around those times as well, would not only aesthetically look better on the car, but that it also would be aerodynamically better for the car as well.
Frikkie ja ek is mal oor n Can Am,ek soek myself so n klein bliksemstraaltjie van n 302 V8,as ek nie een kry nie,dan bou ek n 302 V8 in my 1970 Escort mk1 twee deur,ek glo ook hy sal mooi loop met n V8, jou Can Am is pragtig Frikkie...
24 dislikes, just because the owner spoke in his native language. Great video and great car.
I am convinced that Afrikaans is to to the nations of South Africa and The Netherlands what Cajun, Creole, and Quebec French/Acadian are to the USA and France.
Maybe they have been beaten by a Can Am.?
"Hy skuif links, hy skuif regs - hy wil nie reguit ry.", I felt that. 🙂
Had a homebuilt one of these ..worked 400 chev th400 9 inch diff ..did 145mph from standing start to mile marker..daily driver..miss that car
Nee wat...... Lekker man, lekker. Ou Frikkie jy is wild ou maat. Nice Afrikaans content. Love it

Nice Vauxhall!
This has the same platform as the Vauxhall Viva sold in the UK and Ireland in the 70's. This looks like a beefed up version.
Daaarrrsy. 👍
Nee kyk oom Frikkie daar is 100 gemaak en jy het 2 lekker man
Can't understand why they never sold this in the UK? Price of petrol I expect? 😅
Ek was 12 toe hierdie Chevy op die pad verskyn. Almal van ons het in ons dagdrome die paaie aan die brand gejaag met die monster 😜
Classic!

Hoe vinnager hy is , hoe beter hy lyk!
You don't get an ugly fast car.❤
Hi Buddy, (if you can understand what I’m writing) could you repost this video with English language subtitles please! I love 2300 Firenzas! 🙏
