Great reviews. Best on UA-cam. Succinct, detailed testing, and not making the “is it worth the price” argument. I love that you instead make your pricing analysis based upon market value for functionality e.g. pixel stand as opposed to saying “is it worth this much to you” thus putting the burden on the watcher to determine. Great stuff
I'm really scared that google slowly becomes Apple. $80 for a wireless charging stand and intentionally slow down wireless charging. Battery life terrible is so anti-user for such an expensive flagship.
I don't think any reviewer would have touched or noticed some of the things you mentioned about your experience with the pixel. Your analysis deserves credit. I think it's important for a reviewer to review a smartphone as a consumer , who's purchasing the phone for at least 6 months and not for a couple of days. Loved your style. Keep up the good work, Dave.
I actually just posted a similar comment. It's true because in the end all they care are views, in my opinion. Not to mention, if they don't like it they have a plethora of phones to fall back on.
Erica still does good reviews. Her attention to detail on color accuracy and black clarity are reasons I like to go back. Like how Dave's big on tiny details and gaming features or Phone Buff has pneumatic machines for drop tests and speed tests.
Crazy how many people are so insanely harsh towards them or completely gloss over their flaws and make them sound perfect. You did a great job. I've had my 3 regular since launch. I've been very happy with the phone. Camera is untouchable. Software is also GREAT. no real complaints besides the pathetic amount of ram. Thankfully they have fixed all the ram management issues with software updates. Over all I'd highly recommend it!
This genuinely is software. They tried to make it so sounds like wind arent so loud in video but they are releasing a fix for it. All the issues with the pixel 3 is software, including RAM management(with fixes coming) apart from the scratch like issue but if you get pink or white its no problem
My 2 cent here. I changed to the pixel after having an iPhone X for a month and I love it. I love the wireless charging. The screen. The camera. The Google assistance. The wireless charging pod has way more features for the phone than just as a charger. But what annoys me is that people go on about the 4gb of ram when Samsung s9 is 4gb of ram and the Samsung S9+ is 6 GB of ram. The iPhone XS Max is only 4 GB of ram! This is a stock android phone, you get a plain canvise unlike Samsung with all their pre loaded apps. The notch... I agree when i first saw the screen I was like. That's a bit ugly. But now I don't notice it. I love how smooth the phone is. I think the speakers are fine. Yes some phones have better speakers. Some don't. But me personally. I'm super happy with the switch. I did tonnes of research over the last 14 days and even my girlfriend wants to change from iPhone to one of these phones. I think it's a superb phone. This is my opinion. I will say, I am basic when it comes to my phone. I have it as a phone, email, some social media, banking, UA-cam and Spotify. I'm not a big gamer on my phone. But I also work in a phone shop and most of my customers just use their Samsung or iPhone for the same things. So when it comes down to it. It ends up being. Pay £1100 for a iPhone XS max or £870 for a Google Pixel XL.
I agree with you. I haven't noticed an issue on mine with ram, I did get lucky and was not affected by the bugs people reported prior to the December update. It runs noticeably smoother than my older S8+ with an equal amount of memory. Google has adopted the Apple methodology and has optimised the software for the hardware - so even with less memory, performance is still stunningly fluid.
@@Jay_Leka it's great. I take way more photos than I ever did. The last two updates fixed all the teething issues and it's super light. Fast. Meh. I disagree. Too many compromises on this phone. The 4gb of ram smells of planned obsolescence. This phone was designed with margin in mind and everything else second.
I honestly think the RAM management issues have a lot to do with Android P's use of memory. As Google showed during their presentation, you can copy and paste things right from the "Recents" Menu. When I first saw this in the presentation, I thought it was a really bad idea because it would require a lot of the apps to still be running in the background which would be a huge waste of RAM and CPU processing. Go figure, it has become a problem! Funny how Google has managed to make a newer version of Android WORSE than the previous version. As the old saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." They shot themselves in the foot this time.
The ability to copy and paste things from the recents menu does not have any performance implications. "It would require a lot of the apps to still be running in the background", your recently opened apps run in the background anyways unless you explicitly close them. It's not a waste of RAM, it's the same amount of RAM usage with or without that feature. The same goes for CPU processing, copying and pasting from the recents menu is no different from opening the app then copying and pasting, the app that has the focus gets more CPU attention. Case in point, that feature does not bottleneck performance in any way. Besides, there were apps that fulfilled this same role before it became an OS feature. Android's problems are rooted in the fact that software optimizations can only get you so far, and sometimes more RAM is just plain necessary.
@@wasiimo Can you say that with certainty? I haven't ran stats on this myself, so I'm curious if it really has no performance hit. I'm also curious if Top Shot is causing the hiccups with booting out music players like Spotify while using the camera.
@@xJohnNguyen I'd wager that it has to do more with Android P's new lowmemorykiller daemon. They switched from the default lmk implementation provided by the Linux kernel and now use a userspace implementation instead. High-performance phones (flagships) are less tolerant to memory pressure by default, so they get their apps killed more often in the background. It's paradoxical but that's what they wrote here source.android.com/devices/tech/perf/lmkd
And I want to add that having your memory full is NOT a waste of that memory. It's the exact opposite. You want to have your memory utilized as much as possible (of course not ABSOLUTELY FULL... but reasonably full, only killing processes when there is a lot of memory pressure). Look at it this way: if your RAM is just sitting there empty, it's essentially the same as if you didn't have it at all.
Thank you for talking about the microphone. I really wanted the Pixel 3 due to wanting a Google phone for a while now, but because I use my phone as a video camera quite often, I value the quality of sound. My old Samsung s6 has a better mic then the demo you showed of the Pixel. such a pity.
I'm glad I bought the Pixel 3 it really boiled down to size. 3 XL is wider and longer than the 2 XL which is beyond my capabilities to one hand use it. Also, I can't stress it more how I miss being able to grip the phone snapping pictures, texting, browsing. It just feels right! Time will heal all these issues that most people are facing. For now this is the best compact flagship phone to date
I just got my Pixel 3 yesterday and it is AMAZING! Beautiful design and has stock Android. I couldn't be happier. I thought about getting the Pixel 3 XL but that notch is just annoying and doesn't have the same size front facing speakers like the Pixel 3 does. I also thought about getting the Pixel 3a but for $100 extra the Pixel 3 has better speakers, better build quality and a better processor. I searched and reviewed lots of phones and the Pixel 3 for $499 is the best phone you can get in this price range. The price will probably drop again when the Pixel 4 is released on October. I had no desire to get the Samsung 10 only because their software updates are incredibly slow. Software updates on Google phones are instant and they release them a lot with huge UI improvements. I feel like I am getting a new phone every month or so.
I appreciated that you used the 3 instead of the xl. I felt like most reviewers would say it was a pixel 3 review and then just complain about the notch on the xl. Thank you
The price is expensive but I think it is well worth the asking price. Reason why because Google's AI is far advanced then I have ever seen from a smartphone provider. Google AI it's like having your own personal assistant.
@@edwardhoffenheim3249 Yes, it is 950$ for the 128gb version and 850$ for the 64gb. I have the original Pixel and it didn't cost that much as far as i remember. Also there are plenty of cheaper phones that can do more for less money. The nexus lineup was the best and now they try to appeal to the mainstream users by putting prices high for fragile all glass phones that cost too much, just like apple does
@@dirozx I think TBF that he's referring to the AI in the general software (such as the call screening) and in the camera software (Visual Core, Top Shot, etc), as opposed to just Google Assistant per se.
@@alfindelpiero7991 It is right. I really like fresh Android realisation on a Pixel and Google services, but new Pixels are so ugly. Apple has big plus of their ecosystem is apps. Apps that I everyday use work much better on iOS and also have more functions. Also parallel working with macbook. In this case nobody can made so compromised smartphone like Pixel 3.
@@kroksnak I've been using the iPhone XR for one day already. Phone looks nice, feels nice. In my opinion display is nice too - looks mush better than my 1080p Android phone (of course it is much expensive too). I do not see any pixelisation. It is nice in using, but it is only one day. I will see how it will be in one week. PS. On my work's MacBook less resolution and it is enough for me.
Pixel 3 xl in so many ways just isn't for me. The price tag just for stock android, not a fan of stock android, that notch, battery life, design, 4 gb ram, and no expandable storage. For that price I would go with the Note 9.
The navigation buttons on the Pixel 3 XL drive me nuts there isnt currently a way to make it go away and when your in youtube unnecessarily makes the view screen way to small if you dont zoom the full-screen mode to take up more of the screen. Also the notch is very annoying when watching videos it definitely gets in the way. My note 9 is definitely preferable for media consumption and has better speakers I am glad the pixel is a spare for me as if it were my main device I would be returning it
Marquis Brownlee put his video in 2:1 which removes the black bars and makes you use forced notch. I'm on my Pixel3xl and the notch is easy to get used to. You dont notice it's there ever.
Hey David, great review. Your pentameter when speaking and the inflection of your voice is great. No crutch words or anything to be had, love reviews like this. I have the Pixel 3 as well for the same reasons you do. Smaller and easier to handle yet still retaining flagship specs. I really enjoy it coming from a GS8, however I do miss the 4k samsung screen. Random question: what are the lights staged behind you? They look perfect for a drum room I am building in my home. Cheers!
If you really wanna test a phone , first fill up 70% of internal storage with large number of audio and image files. Then watch as your phone Lags as crazy. If it doesn't then the phone is worth buying. I filled my OnePlus 5T with 2k call audio recordings and 2k images and have 80.1 GB available space ,it Lags frequently
Thumbs up for noting the speaker quality difference of the two phones! this is why I watch different reviews nobody covers everything; I appreciate you notice something different.
Etched glass is used to polish and resurface other materials. It is very hard and abrasive. They make nail files among many other things out of just this type of etched glass.
In both Erica Griffin's video and the Unbox Therapy video, they were able, with water and a toothbrush, to get the back of the phone spotless and seemingly factory fresh.
Hey you have the same fanteks case in the background as I have at home :) Mine is the tempered glass version and it is BEAUTIFUL. You have good taste in PC cases :) And about the phone, I love this phone. Honestly i have had some issues but I am able to overlook them because the phone just does what I want it to do so well. I'm a pro photographer and don't have the space in my bag to carry a lo when I am traveling. Having something with dynamic range THIS good along with the ability to shoot raw and touch up in lightroom later is such a big plus. It means I can go out with my wife in between projects and just take my phone, and know I am going to get a good picture every time. Keep up the great videos Dave!
This video convinced me to go for the pixel 3 over 3xl or 2xl. I live this honest reviews. Even if i read around 10 articles I always learn something new here. Great job.
It just sound like Google paid for all these reviews. Noone seems excited about them (mentioning all their weaknesses) yet say they’re excellent. Huh? How is this better than an iPhone XR? Crazy that Google with all their resources can’t make something better than this. Really crazy.
@@andrec1134 I would disagree on the camera part. My Nexus 6P and my OG Google pixel camera's still blow my daily OnePlus 6's camera out of the water. Despite the 6P being 3 years old now.
Just wanted to say that your review is the best I've seen. Very well explained. Great examples of real world usage and I appreciate your honesty about your experience and expectations of the phone. Plus that part showing how bad the mic is, nice. No other review I've seen has actually shown it. Great review.
Whats bad about the Pixel 1. Easily scratch (I mean "residue") 2. Unbalance speakers 3. That notch 4. Bad ram management 5. Bad audio in video recording and OMG, that hissing noise So much things to hate about this phone
There’s much more to love about it as well... Pixel 3 is a great smartphone and if it costed 500$ people would’ve praised it but it’s getting all the hate cuz of the price
The pixel was good before than it got into their head and 😞 lost It. Thinking they can fool people with a lesser quality new ones. Shame on them. Buy only from a consistently good company!!! *** Be loyal to your customers!!!
I've watched a dozen or more of these videos today - this is fantastic, hits the main points and flows really well. Kudos. I'll be buying the Pixel 3 tomorrow in black friday sales
A good phone for max 400 bucks, for that price I want sth new. Sth like Samsung with their note or Apple with Xs. The pixel is boring, would go with the Pocophone.
Its not conflicting, i mean to say most people dislike the phone but in my opinion its nice but the design could be better, things like the back glass can scratch easily and the notch could be made better.
The TechWiz They're crap and Google isn't even trying. For the prices they're charging the user experience should be stellar. It's not. Not even close.

Pixel 1 - Design - DEALBREAKER Pixel 2 - Mono recording videocamera - DEALBREAKER Pixel 3 - 4GB RAM - DEALBREAKER Why do they pick every year one big thing to mess up?? But yeah, at least having the best camera and stereospeakers 👍 thumbs up for that
Bruh the pixel this year is so disappointing. Like in every way but the expected good area: the camera. And it only does photos well. Video is still awful compared to the note9 and xs. And there is no excuse. Literally none. Bezels are huge, yet Google has the tech and money to have small bezels. Mic quality is honestly worse than the mic problems the 2xl had last year yet Google has the tech and money to not suck at audio. Battery is smaller than last year yet Google has the tech and money to put a bigger battery or better software in place. No fast charging on third party wireless chargers yet Google has the tech and money to fix that. Piss poor ram management worse than smaller companies like OnePlus yet Google has the tech and money to either put in more ram or better software. No 4k60 yet their soc NATIVELY supports it. Like all other 845 powered devices. Like almost every single one.
They take the costumers for granted just like Apple. I was looking for a replacement for my S7Edge, but I want to have a custom ROM and Root in my phone. The only phone great flagship this year is the Huawei P20 Pro and maybe the Note 9.
Dave, I would like to see a long term use video review now that a lot of issues have been fixed. I would love to hear what you think of the phone how it is now! 😀
Great vid! However regarding your comment on the SoC speed, the 845 is actually clocked at 2.8 on my Pixel 3 XL, I confirmed this with a few different apps while running benchmarks. It appears it might be a mistake on Google's product page.
Really considering the regular pixel 3, I am currently rocking a Moto g5 plus and got it in May of 2017, and it has served me very well, but as someone who uses there phone for listening to music while having a couple other apps open and using Snapchat and Twitter regularly, I'm really starting to notice the 2gb of ram. I would also like a better camera experience and guarrunted software updates until I upgrade again. (My Moto g5 plus still has Android 7.0)

I had no desire to get the Samsung 10 only because their software updates are incredibly slow. Software updates on Google phones are instant and they release them a lot with huge UI improvements. I feel like I am getting a new phone every month or so.
may i ask. how's the battery life?
Is it just a coincidence that the notch looks exactly like the new google chrome tabs? I wonder if the tabs were to ease us into the notch?
i think all of it, notch included, is supposed to be part of google's new material design 2.0 standards but....god is it ugly
@@cileft011 agreed. It would have been nice if they just went with the old tabs as the style.
I appreciated that you used the 3 instead of the xl. I felt like most reviewers would say it was a pixel 3 review and then just complain about the notch on the xl. Thank you
That's why I got the regular as opposed to the xL
not worth 950$.
It's not $950. Google would have had to lost their shit to price it like that.
The price is expensive but I think it is well worth the asking price. Reason why because Google's AI is far advanced then I have ever seen from a smartphone provider. Google AI it's like having your own personal assistant.
every android phone from the last couple of years has google assistent.
I was waiting for Pixel 3 XL, but after presentation and reviews made preorder for iPhone XR on 128GB. However I saved more than 300$!
@@kroksnak hahaha. You forgot about only 3GB of RAM 😉
these flagships are not about specs. it's about the software and ecosystems
@@kroksnak Also the best processor in the smartphone industry by far, but hey, screen amirite?

Michael Marchetti that’s what they been saying for the past 5 years 😂
Javi Garcia Still warriors in 4 though😂
Great review-- covered the issues I was interested in hearing!
Pixel 3 xl in so many ways just isn't for me. The price tag just for stock android, not a fan of stock android, that notch, battery life, design, 4 gb ram, and no expandable storage. For that price I would go with the Note 9.
Jerry Huang So stuck only in 2018 software and crappy camera 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great video! You mentioned that the Pixel 3 has a poor microphone. What did you use to record sound for this video?
Cheers!
*So early you look like Dave1D*

Great review. Said some things other reviewers overlooked or did not really elaborate on.
Damnit! Now I actually notice the volume discrepancy between the left and right speakers on my 3 XL, why you do dis to me Dave??
Your thumbnails and intro animations are second to none, well done Sir!
Still rocking my Pixel 3 🤳🏽#TeamPixel
How's the battery life? I was looking into some used Pixel 3 phones but idk if I should really get one
@@andre-arthur not good tbh
I love how quick and concisely you cover so much information!
*It doesn't actually scratch. Watch Erica Griffin's video. (Unboxing therapy also made a video on this).*
This x1000
Etched glass is used to polish and resurface other materials. It is very hard and abrasive. They make nail files among many other things out of just this type of etched glass.
While doesn’t scratch as easily as it appears to, it does scratch easier than non etched glass.
In both Erica Griffin's video and the Unbox Therapy video, they were able, with water and a toothbrush, to get the back of the phone spotless and seemingly factory fresh.
But it's still more fragile than normal glass I think. Watch the Jerryrigeverything videos on the pixel 3. (I'm not sure though)
That my friends..is how you do a review..
(Applause)
thanks for the short and full of information video. since they are not insanely long reviews, I watch all Dave lee videos.
If you see this Dave,
image link for the dope wallpaper in the background?
If you ask the wallpaper inside the phone, it's from LG G3
Thanks for the info, I'm passing on this one.
Which phone do you recommend for creators?
I'm subscribing to his meditation channel, if at all he makes one.
You have some of the best and clean thumbnails and great videos bro 👍🏻
"Why am I not on that list?" LMAOOO
This video convinced me to go for the pixel 3 over 3xl or 2xl. I live this honest reviews. Even if i read around 10 articles I always learn something new here. Great job.
what is the app you use to see how much ample of the current?
would like to know that too
Found it!
It's call Charger Tester (ampere meter)
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apps.asterios.charger&hl=en_US
Great review. I like this kind of short but detailed reviews. Thanks
It just sound like Google paid for all these reviews. Noone seems excited about them (mentioning all their weaknesses) yet say they’re excellent. Huh? How is this better than an iPhone XR? Crazy that Google with all their resources can’t make something better than this. Really crazy.
Yo thanks for just getting straight into the review and not wasting my time like all other reviews. Great video.
Only reasons to even consider the Pixel is for pure Android updates and camera, that's it.
Those are pretty big reasons.
Cesar Alvarez unlimited photo storage, 3 year of updates, newest os, but camera isn’t REALLY THAT special tbh...
that camera and stock android is really compelling.. the other things is rubbish..
@@andrec1134 I would disagree on the camera part. My Nexus 6P and my OG Google pixel camera's still blow my daily OnePlus 6's camera out of the water. Despite the 6P being 3 years old now.
Cesar Alvarez
Is that worth $900? I would rather save $250 and buy the iPhone XR.
Thank you for being honest and impartial. Great review!
Now I have a pixel 3 xl and I love it.
Just wanted to say that your review is the best I've seen. Very well explained. Great examples of real world usage and I appreciate your honesty about your experience and expectations of the phone. Plus that part showing how bad the mic is, nice. No other review I've seen has actually shown it. Great review.

Whats bad about the Pixel
1. Easily scratch (I mean "residue")
2. Unbalance speakers
3. That notch
4. Bad ram management
5. Bad audio in video recording and OMG, that hissing noise
So much things to hate about this phone
And the price. With all these failures it should cost less than One Plus
Muhammad Azim true, for like 600$ bucks it’d be a great phone
Ram management is not bad, it's just less ram.
There’s much more to love about it as well... Pixel 3 is a great smartphone and if it costed 500$ people would’ve praised it but it’s getting all the hate cuz of the price
The pixel was good before than it got into their head and 😞 lost
It. Thinking they can fool people with a lesser quality new ones.
Shame on them. Buy only from a consistently good company!!! ***
Be loyal to your customers!!!
I've watched a dozen or more of these videos today - this is fantastic, hits the main points and flows really well. Kudos. I'll be buying the Pixel 3 tomorrow in black friday sales
The pixel 3 and 3 xl are the most disliked flagship this year , in my opinion the phone is good but the design is maybe okay.
your sentences are conflicting
A good phone for max 400 bucks, for that price I want sth new. Sth like Samsung with their note or Apple with Xs. The pixel is boring, would go with the Pocophone.
Its not conflicting, i mean to say most people dislike the phone but in my opinion its nice but the design could be better, things like the back glass can scratch easily and the notch could be made better.
The TechWiz
They're crap and Google isn't even trying. For the prices they're charging the user experience should be stellar. It's not. Not even close.
The TechWiz Terrible microphone, based on this review. Just terrible. Like worse thank Nokias from ten years ago.
Mittens getting a nice shoutout in this vid 👌🏻

no other tech youtuber talks abt these stuff. Awesome review Dave!
Pixel 1 - Design - DEALBREAKER
Pixel 2 - Mono recording videocamera - DEALBREAKER
Pixel 3 - 4GB RAM - DEALBREAKER
Why do they pick every year one big thing to mess up??
But yeah, at least having the best camera and stereospeakers 👍 thumbs up for that
Hi, Dave! What app did you use to check the charging current or amperage? I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks.
I'm with you man, I like value for money and this phone is far from it! I hope OnePlus Nails it with the 6T!
Iván Castellanos S9 is actually really good and it’s cheap af now
Thanks for this - I was going to change my recently purchased note 9 but I think ill stick with it!
I got my pixel 3 for $400 on Black Friday I would say that is a pretty damn good deal! That is to say that I wouldn't have spent $800 on it as well
Why can't more tech youtubers be honest like you! Cheers Dave - from Malaysia
An average phone with an above average price. I think ill wait for the galaxy s10/sX

For future proofing, of course, I can't afford a 144Hz monitor.
RAGE I think Dave just wants to preserve that cinematic feel
Great vid! However regarding your comment on the SoC speed, the 845 is actually clocked at 2.8 on my Pixel 3 XL, I confirmed this with a few different apps while running benchmarks. It appears it might be a mistake on Google's product page.

Who ends the day with 40% battery life?
People who stay at home ?
70% with my iphone XS max
Me. My Galaxy s8+ can last that long.
My Note 9 can do that. Usually end the day around 20-30% though.
