I would just like to add that the job type really doesn't matter to an INFP. I know this because I am an INFP and I've done research that backs up my statement. What it really comes down to is an INFP thrives in creative environments where they feel that they have a positive impact in and where they are allowed certain amounts of freedom and also where they feel like they are making an impact. For example, I work in the web development industry and I love going to work everyday but I keep hearing that an INFP should look for something else along the lines of literature or something like that. It seems as though most people want to know what's best for them and they seek their own answers outside of themselves rather than exposing the only true answer within them. Really great video you have provided here and thank you for your thoughts.

Ryan Christensen I feel so fulfilled & content when I’ve truly helped someone & their life improved somewhat. But it also meant I feel downcast if I can’t achieve the +ve impact I had hoped to make. My imaginative dream job growing up was a clown lol which basically boiled down to putting a smile on other ppl’s face & seeing other lighten up. At this point in life, it’s tutoring, painting & culinary - sharing food with others.. creativity + lively little contributions to others.. sharing all the fine things in life.. seeing others light up..

Hello, I'm a young and confused INFP on what career path to choose so I've been watching videos like this to kind of help me solidify the career I actually just chose a few weeks ago after a lot of consideration. I chose the field of Information and Computer Technology. I wasn't finding any related videos about INFPs choosing ICT or something so I was feeling a bit anxious about my decision.
Your comment really helped me reassure what I have decided on so thank you very much!!I just wanted to know, if you were to ever reply to this or anyone who chose a similar career like on the art industry or INFPs who chose their jop that's kinda related to their personality type, what's it like now? Do you still find it fulfilling and enjoy doing it? Thank you to whoever responds :>>

I'm INFP and I study graphic design, its creative but the way school is teaching the software is really hard because its just following instructions to practice the program. I used to teach myself by designing and looking up tutorials if I didnt know how to do something. It was a better way of learning for me but I want to learn all the skills I need. It's just not in the optimal manner.
My advice: just try, you can sell art online and you can publish books online on sites like amazon. follow courses online or just look up tutorials on youtube to improve your skills. You don't need to start big, you just need to start

When I was younger I wanted to be a artist and writer but I lose motivation so easily that I realize I wouldn't like it if that were my jobs. I still love drawing and writing but I can't do it if I don't have the inspiration and motivation and I basically hate it if I force myself. Though I realized that I would love a job where I help others. I always enjoy helping others and it doesn't really rely on creative inspiration which I don't always have.

I am the ultimate INFP. I work in theatre and studied production crafts at drama school. I am a story-teller for sure. But because I am introverted I am behind the scenes in the costume department! I create characters through clothing. So it's practical as a sew and budget and schedule (and shop!) but it's also very creative. It's the perfect balance of collaboration and independent working.

I am an INFP and I am becoming a scientist. Many people don't think of science as being good for a feeler type, yet creativity is very useful and important when questioning the possibilities of specific subjects. I am getting my degree in ecology and am enjoying the learning... I suppose I will see if the jobs I get are as enjoyable. Don't let anyone decide what is good for you, do what you want to do, because of your want in doing it.

    • @selda.mustak
      @selda.mustak 2 роки тому

hello, could you possibly explain further if it really is a fulfilling experience for you as an infp? i'm kind of considering the major "molecular biology & genetics" but i can't be sure if i would like working in a lab environment or i'm not sure if it would be the a good choice for me as a person who likes arts as well.. i also do like learning and having an impact on environmental issues like climate crisis etc. but i just don't know if it's the 'right fit' for me, so to speak... so i'd appreciate it if you could share your overall experience with me, thank youu

    • @mushroomking8304
      @mushroomking8304 2 роки тому +1

@@selda.mustak well I can't really mention work experience yet as I am still lacking it in my field. I will graduate with my bachelor's in a little less than a year... From what I have experienced so far, it is challenging to compete against fellow scientists as the different mind sets really focus on results. Compared to how I view it, to where it is a step for me to reach my goal, so how I learn matters just as much as passing the course. I have had to take the learning process slower than others around me simply because my brain focuses on a variety of things. Which is not entirely a bad thing as I am able to come up with connections for subject matter rather quickly and with a focus on the broad sense which then narrows to what the intended focus is. Simply put, there are a lot of people in my field that don't consider the connections and implications of subjects connecting to other subjects, which I find strange as that is largely why we are taught a series of different material. For example, learning about how sound waves work in physics is relatable to noise pollution in bay areas, is not commonly what people think when they are considering pollution.
So to answer your question of if it is fullfilling, I have to say that I do not know as of yet. I can tell you that I intend to push for higher education in the future, but I intend on taking a break first and gaining field experience. There are parts that are stressful and challenging with taking on school. But when I started learning about the things I find interesting, where I could imagine myself using the information I was taught, I then feel more confident in my ability to succeed. Ultimately, my success largely relies on my ability to imagine a future that I think I will enjoy. Lastly, what I find enjoyable will likely not be the same for you, and feeling fullfilled is largely a post realization to what you have completed. So I am happy with what I have completed thus far, but know that I am not yet fullfilled with what I intend on completing.

Hi Dan. Thanks for your empowering content. I really appreciate your videos.
I'm an INFP. Strangely I discovered this during my first year of medical school and it was a source of significant relief. The INFP profile helped me to understand why I had great passion for my academic pursuits in the medical profession yet possess this immense (& secret) desire to indulge in visual art, creative writing and hopefully animation. It also helped me explain why
I always felt like a very odd fish that don't fit in any habitat. I even had small doubts that I'm even an INFP but it's my consistent personality test result lol.
Luckily i didn't throw art away and continued practicing it until I graduated. My biggest concern now is how much longer can I juggle both medicine and art. I do enjoy both worlds.

Im a 25 year old infp, and nowadays I have learned that any job seems to suit me, but the truly hard part is getting started. Slowly I gain confidence and Excell beyond what initially seems to me beyond anyone's expectations. People might think im a bit off at first, due to my social anxiety but quicker than I expect, I get everything I needed from the experience and I put more into my work than most would ever care to do. I feel more alive when I push myself way way beyond what I may have believed was enough. A good day or bad day is a non issue as long as youre getting a lesson or experience to remember from it. Everything just seems to fall into place the more that I keep busy and the more challenges that I face. Sometimes I get so depressed but now I snap out of it much faster. There is a clear barrier between non-action and action but once that is broken, there really is nothing left to hold you back.

Funny how when I was a kid (14yo) wanted so bad to be a film director, I used to make my own movies, I loved reading, making poems.out of inspiration and wrote a couple of short stories. I even made a test at the end of highschool for determining my aptitudes, my result was arts, music etc. of course I did not study that, because they told me I would starve to death if I tried to dedicate myself to that. So I studied economics and finance to fit into the job market.
Needless to say, I do not like my career, if i have made this test many years before I would have been more determined to find a career more aligned to my core values. Come on, when I was like 7 years old I wanted so bad to be a writter. I guess it is never late to make the change though.

I dont want to listen to this video, based on the title only, I simply want to say, learn to know yourself, study yourself closely and you will find what you want. A big part is about confidence. Its dangerous to follow generall stereotypes (you are so much more than 4 letters that explains something) and It might sound good at first but when seeing to what you want the most, look at the bad as to the good and understand that its all one part. As we infps might often do, imagine this dreamy version of whatever you now want to do, it sets us up for dissapointment. When you know and accept and from my view, see the beauty in negativity, darkness and pain you will end up never feeling negative again, because you have transcended everything that could ever go against you. Its a some what buddistic ideal but a true one for sure. No more pain can be caused at the bottom of the furnace.
Edit: watched the vid, a dreamer, what infps generally are, can make up a writer or a other kind of creator, but you are not a writer for example just because you are a dreamer. This is why I'm emphasizing that you need to get to know yourself, its such a common thing that people believe themselfs to know so much. When did people in generall ever sit down for 1 hour, just 1 hour, and truly think about why they act like they do, if there is some underlying reasoning, I promise, people have'nt done this at all, but learning about how your smartphone works is very interesting right?
Last note, my recommendation for inspiration: alan watts, opens up your subjective world like nothing else! try it out :)

I don't think that anybody can fully know themselves. That's why personality test's are important. It's not just a 4 letter classiiaction that pigeon holes you to a certain traits and behaviours. Research the cognitive functions of your personality type and you'll know yourself fully.

I agree with you. Mbti can be a powerful tool to guide you, but always take it with a piece of salt. Personality varies from person to person. We can't all be placed in the same box. For example, Infps are known for being idealistic and creative. I, on the other hand, am highly pessimistic and creative. So, when it comes to careers, I choose courses that balances passion with practicality. That's why I'm doing Business Psychology

Coding might be hard for an INFP due to the logical nature of it, but once you overcome this, you can bring your fantasy and imaginative world to life! I think they would do well in computer gaming as games are constantly changing and evolving. But I also think they would enjoy being on the cutting edge of technology where they need to constantly keep their tech skills up and getting involved in jobs where creating something new with new technology.
I also think jobs roles such as IT Architect or Project Managers who are more involved in designing solutions for a corporation. These jobs require the ability to research technologies and creating solutions.

Dirt work doesnt get old..always making things look better, same with the car restorations. .i definitely suggest heavy equipment operators or something in a different location regularly.. body work is hard but creative and satisfying. Plant and office jobs are a definite no.. I cant function long without playing music tho and theres always some science channel or history documentary playing while i work.

i am about to study electrical engineering in a few months,i realise that engineering is not very common among infps, but i like it better than medical or accounting,i love math even though i am not super good at it,i see math as a language,i hope this career requires some creativity

There are many who want to work from home. That requires the same scrutiny as searching for a "regular" job. If anyone here has a desire or idea to work from home, I'm interested. You may contact me on Facebook or LinkedIn and reference this post or video.

Its really painful for an infp to grow in saudi Arabia where neither logic or emotions work ,
Saudi people are led by their culture
they even forced it on the religion
And The poor education made it possible
Cultural societies tend to refuse change and deny it ,
So the Male infp which is the total opposite of a stereotype Male having a hard time there is a must .
I'm already overly criticised for being me or for being interested in "stupid things " as they say .
I wanted to learn music but its something forbidden to teach there
So I want to learn about writing
I want to learn how to make my thoughts more linear.
    Reading couldn't help a lot.
Consider that I dont get my hands on English books more often, and when that happens I dont know what to buy.

Dude I have the same story! I went into Computer Science because it was an obviously good job market that will always be in demand but I only like computers for leisure things like art, music, social media and video games (in my wee youth) Later on in life I decided to try law and that was also a flop. I'm 25 now.

I have background in trade and marketing, I think it is an area where you can be creative and apply your social/empathy skills ( plus analytical of course).Still, have always been attracted to art, design, music and dances. Difficult combination, but at least trying to keep them as a hobby. Have been working many things, most important is not to be bored from repetitive tasks, and to keep being creative, have contact with people.

I'm an INFP who started working in programming out of financial necessity and I too loathe this socially void, logic driven, competitive field.
However I have not the slightest clue what else I could be doing. None of the things that interest me can pay my rent. 😩

Thanks, Dan. Film or game animation would be a great career for an INFP programmer. A masters might be helpful but not necessary for that. A certificate in graphics would work fine. I’m curious to know more about those 50-somethings you meet, who are trying to get on the right path. That would certainly apply to me. It can happen at any age. Great stuff.
