- In this video we have to get creative with polishing turquoise. I have pretty consistent polishing methods for Quartz and other Gemmy materials. But this Turquoise gives me some fits.

the black veins in turquoise is called matrix! for some collectors of turquoise jewelry, the matrix is just as exciting to show off as the blue (or green) of the stone.
The Matrix is what makes turquoise so interesting honestly and having awesome figuring from it makes objects made from so much more beautiful
Its a rock. chill
It is my favorite part of turquoise. My grandmother has a turquoise pendant with a vein of gold in it the black blue and gold is absolutely gorgeous. I hope one day I can inherit it but hopefully not soon
Sometimes they can have gold in them!
@@Blessingdrop why come to a channel like this if you arent into rocks?
Beautiful. It’s soooooo soft though. You’re going to need a super soft surface to roll this on. My wife and I play games with Lapis die, and we have to replace them about every 4 months. They get pretty wonky.
in the past when I ordered stone dice, they included a felt rolling tray :)
Just the act of rolling the precious stone on a hard surface will eventually warp it? That's wild.
This is exactly why I only use die made of 24k diamonds...
Anything else is a compromise on longevity.
@@slyfawkes7772Are you serious? Where do you even buy those?
quartz has a moz harness of 7 so you'd be fine with that material
the sand blasting really cut deep numbers into the soft stone this time. I love the effect
The softer the stone, the harder it is to polish. But you did a great job troubleshooting it and the result is awesome
Honestly not talking about the finished product at all and just letting the results speak for themselves is such a flex. Looks awesome, great work.
Hey also want to add that your camera work has hit another level. Noticed and appreciated! Great job. Thank you for sharing!
Absolutely stunning work as always!! Problem solving is definitely one of my favorite parts of faceting. Each stone is a totally new challenge, and it's always incredibly satisfying when everything finally works out. I love the bits of history you've included as well. Keep up the great work!! 😊 (Also great work on The Gemcutter's Craft Podcast!)
I had a blast taking with Justin. If anyone else is wondering what the Gemcutters craft podcast is, it’s a podcast by fellow UA-camr Justin prim. He has amazing videos for staring out in faceting. The podcast is on his Patreon. www.patreon.com/justinkprim
Applying your rouge or buffing compound to your larger wheel as it is spinning would have been the conventional way to apply the buffing compound, just as you did with your dremel polishing wheel! love the work!
I expect his wheel doesn't spin fast enough gor that to work... you need enough friction to melt the waxy matrix.
@@tehbonehead Yes, the heat gun he uses for side flipping would work probably.
yeah thats the hard thing about ZAM you have to use the friction heat of the pad itself to melt it into the felt.... but if theres no way to push it out of the tube I could see how that may be difficult.
This might just be the best d20 ive ever seen. Absolutely stunning work as always, and that stone is simply incredible.
You should look at his moissanite D20. That’s pretty gorgeous too
Erm, pretty sure that polishing compound is supposed to come out of that tube like a push-up popsicle.
Yeah, you push it onto the spinny thing as it spins so the friction melds it onto the surface
gold leaf gilding would have looked so cool.
Incredible work!
The dark pattern across the faces looks sick it's amazing
I just LOVE it when you include some of the extra details about the type of stone you're working with. The history and geology and geography make the whole video so much more interesting.
As for the polishing... When using a solid polishing compound for metals (swords and knives) or plastics (plexi) you just rub the compound block right into the polishing wheel and let the wheel pick up what it can, like you did with the dremel. The compound being in that tube makes it awkward, but I'd assume you'd still do the same thing, rub the compound block directly on the spinning felt faceting wheel.
The final result here, though, was gorgeous, and I kind of like the soft edges :)
NEED!!! Every video my mind is blown, but this Turquoise D20 is a need! The Idea of using this dice for a Spore Druid was my first thought and now I need it!
Yes, this was my first "should have" one too.
Beautiful, I like the softer edges it has, helps with the light rolling from one facet into the next.
Beautiful, as always. Loving the faceted edges. Sharp facets are cool of course, but soft lines are too, and they look great on this. I honestly think you should experiment with rounded edges occasionally, even with harder minerals. I think it could work really well.
the sandy white looks so fitting with the turquoise!! It almost looks golden
You work with these stones so precisely and always use them to their fullest potential. Such gorgeous work!! ❤
Turquoise is my birthstone and I've never really liked the look of it, but seeing it all polished and with that gold is the first time I've thought it looked pretty and not just a lumpy rock. I actually love gold and green as a color combo, thank you for giving me hope for my birthstone ❤
As a Native American, nerd, whose birthstone is turquoise… this ticks all of the boxes!
I really like how you used the slider on the timelapse. Adds somewhat of a cinematic feeling to it
The macro shots at the end were so stunning, I get teary eyed every time I see them. They're just so beautiful. Amazing work, as always :)
I think it's cool how we can see different things in it
I really like the veins of black, It reminds me of lightning. A sorcerer wielding black lightning in a clear sky. If the numbers were a shade closer to white it would hint at clouds just a bit more.
Absolutely stunning, i wouldnt even use it for fear of damaging it cause its so beautiful
I'm just discovering your channel and beyond the stunning artistic rendering, I feel your videos are meditative. Great Job
Your editing and camera and music work, especially at the end there, is getting pretty impressive.
I think this is my favorite of your pieces. The rounded edges and color works really well.
Love this channel. Ya know what it needs very badly though? The dice actually rolling at the end. Would be fantastic to see them roll, maybe even be very strict about not having extra takes so that the numbers that come up are legitimately what they rolled
The process is so interesting to watch. The results are gorgeous!
Absolutely breathtaking! I would love to see someone use this with the Coyote and Crow setting and characters, to reconnect it with Indigenous themes.
That cut is much cooler than the star cuts, it feels like it gives a weight to the dice.
it turned out so good! I absolutely love the flat (bevelled?) edges too what a nice facet
That outro was top notch! Really loved that.
those that have the shape of an actual d20 are my favorite
That vein is so perfect, perfectly aligned with the corner of the dice ✨️🌌💖
I can't wait for Larimar D20
We already did that one! :)
I loved seeing the process of trial and error. Beautiful dice by the way =D
That looks amazing! I agree that it would go good with a monk.
Sometimes you just want to skip to the end to see what it looks like, but trust me, the journey is mesmerizing.
At first I was like, how are you going to drag this out for 8 minutes? Riding along with your problem solving was fun and the next thing I knew, you were done! Clearly you know what you are doing behind the camera as well as in front of it. Excellent!
As a woodworker if your working with champhers on something that is soft enough to round over with light sanding(or polishing) start with the champhers, then do the faces. Youll likely round the edges a little but when you do the faces they are a much wider flat surface so your more likely to stay flat, which when material is taken off by the edge it should sharpen the edge again, at least a little. Edit, this applies to not just using the polish wheel but any method really, champher first, faces second, helps keep sharp lines. This die looks awesome!
It's always so nice to see your work and the resulting gem. This one's a real beauty, well done!
it almost looks unreal, like a 3d render or something, what a great job you did on this one
Your craft, design, and art blow me away everytime!!
Turquoise is one of my favorite stones. The black matrix is usually iron pyrite in turquoise.
I also really like how the sandblasted pink looked with the turquoise numbers at 7:09 - I don't know of any stone with that sort of dark pink coloration, though.
Great job, as always !
That turned out amazing! Beautiful work!
Beautiful indeed... A Emerald or Jade D20 will look really beautiful
Always a great craftsmanship, I'd love some cool rock D20 like this.
you guys simply keep outdoing yourselves! this was so beautiful and well produced. i look forward to every one of these.
this is sc=uch an incredibly gorgeous piece, Turquoise is finicky, it's very soft so it can be hard to get something tidy out o it !
The double bevel is next level
always love the dice you make.. as i just orderd my self a set to add to my collection of dice.. and thank you for showing a rare viewed artwork.. these are not just game peices but art in there own right
Oh this looks AMAZING!!! Turquoise is one of my favorites stones, and this is just fenomenal!! The black veins looks like you painted them into the beautiful and unique blue of this stone!!! I love it!! Great work!!! ❤❤❤
I love seeing this process so much. It's seeing a master at work
"It felt like such a good idea and now it feels like such a bad idea" -every struggling creator ever! I feel you but I enjoy seeing how positive your attitude is whenever facing new challenges!
You can rub that buffing compound onto paper and polish that way. It’s also a good way to finish dress a knife edge.
As Zoro said, "Perfect, now do it again."
Looks like this is an especially difficult material to work with. I noticed several imperfections. It is awesome for a first try, but will be even more awesome if you can overcome the barrier set by the material.
i am in LOVE with this dice, you blow me away every time. it's amazing artists like you who inspire me to try new things in art! keep up with the good work and don't forget to take care of yourself
Oh yes, a new Hedron video! Love your stuff man!
I absolutely love this! I went from yelling at the screen (you probably know why) to laughing my butt off to admiring your cinematic skills. Finishing it all off with such a beautiful piece of turquoise it legitimately gave me chills. The entire experience was riveting. I am satisfactorily facetated. Thank you for this. Love me some turquoise. I gotta share this with my fellow phosphate phreaks.
I love watching trial and error solutions like this. It reminds me of my whole life lol.
the "black stuff" looked absolutely gorgeous... I would love a die that maintained some of it
Turquoise is my birth stone! I love the way this turned out!
I think this is the first time I've ever thought turquoise looked good!
It looks great! The softened edges really aren't that noticeable and they're fine for an opaque material anyway. Probably good to help reduce chipping as well. The creamy orange ink fill was a great choice too.
My favorite D20, yet.
Boy how I wish I could buy all of these, all your dice are so beautiful
It’s my favorite color and if I saw it in a shop I’d buy it regardless of the price. Awesome!
I absolutely love this die, the idea of a monk really speaks to me as the stone gives me the image of a lone wanderer, shaped and rounded by his travels
Picturing a spore druid is a fun twist too! The natural veiny appearance of the stone brings to mind dark ichor coursing through the arm of one powerful in necromancy
Beautiful work, loved the color choice for the numbers. Always enjoy the calming music and input on your thought process.
I'm gonna be a nag again and ask to see malachite, copper numbers would be my choice. Just a vote for your next idea.
No matter what you do I'm still following and loving your videos/works!
Beautiful peice of turquoise, and expertly made
Omg one of my all time fav stones turquoise is so beautiful
You just gotta push from the bottom of the zam tube to push it out of the top. You figured out an around about way to polish it but it has to be in a pad or polishing wheel turning pretty quick to heat it up for a nice polish. Looks good in the end!
very beautiful! and I loved hearing some history from around the world. I know Indigenous peoples in Arizona still work extensively with turquoise, there are some great artisans still using traditional techniques to create more contemporary pieces. very cool to see the troubleshooting also! turned out great.
it’d be super fun to see a d20 made of out an agate or maybe even bloodstone!
I love turquoise, and you did the mineral justice with this die!! Fantastic work as always!
Tough stone to work with, but as always, you have done a fantastic job!
Best 8 minutes of my life bro, you're amazing!
What you did with the edges is perfect.
It would be really cool to see what a random rock from the ground would look like cleaned up and polished.
Полагаю, абразив (видимо, аналог распространённой у нас пасты ГОИ) можно было сперва нагреть - в пастообразном состоянии он легко нанесётся на войлок. В любом случае конечный результат просто великолепен. Спасибо за отличный контент!
It's not the shiniest of your D20 stones, but it is really pretty. Glad you were able to troubleshoot polishing it.
So so so stunning. Might need to frame it instead of play with it but that's okay
Fabulous work as usual.
the black veins are gorgeous 🥰
That's enough to make a Orc go green with envy.
That turned out so good dude. I love your videos they're the perfect combo of music and ASMR. Another great video!
it's always a treat when Hedron uploads
I think this is my favorite one so far. Beautiful!
Pretty. Looks like you'd want to cover it in lacquer though, to avoid it scratching itself the first time you roll it.
Incredible work as always sir! Wonderful problem solving and beautiful result!
Absolutely gorgeous. Turquoise is one of my favourite crystals
dude, your dice are amazing
love your work, as always. so glad that you're able to work on something that brings you joy
I think this is the best one so far! I love those flattened edges! I wonder what it would look like with star corners on it
Gorgeous work as always.
a beautiful d20
i would be super interested in seeing you make a full set of dice from a stone you liked working with
Stunning, as always
