The entire journey from Manali to Rohtang pass used be quite thrilling in in nineteen seventies. The whole area is quite enchanting.
Expansion of roads and commercial aspects are devaluing the original sanctity of this route
Drove in Maruti Van with German friends in Oct 91. Roads were terrible then...much better now.. Drove back at night....still get goosebumps...

I have visited Khardung la and Chang la in Ladakh. Both are at more than 4000 feet higher altitude. But Rohtang la at 13000 feet altitude seems more formidable, with highly volatile weather. Many thanks for sharing such a nice experience.

Bhai khardung la and chang la pass is 17582 feet above sea level and Rohtang pass is 13000 feet, kindly correct your knowledge

You're wrong. I have toured Ladakh last month and visited these places. They're much higher--
Chhalg La = 17830 ft.
Kahardung La = 18530 ft.
Tanglag la = 17830 ft. (on way back from Leh to Manali this is first paas you cross. Climb starts from Upashi)
Baralata La = 15800 ft. (This is also on same route and comes after Pang and before Sarchu)
Leh = 11400 ft. The city itself is at this much high altitude.
Amarnath Cave = 14300 ft.

Rohtang pass jana allow hai kehte koi permit lena padta.. Esa kuch hai kya
@@mamtarajputdoomra1955 Agar App apni Car se jaa rahe Ho to Apko Online Permit Lena Padega. But Agar Himachal Taxi mei fer woh Khud Lete hai. Agar Govt. bus Use Krte Ho to Fer Kuch Bhi nyi lena Hai.
