This movie gets so much unnecessary hate, it is very criminally underrated.
If people would take off the rose-coloured glasses of their youth, they would notice that Legacy is better than the first movie.
I disagree that the hate is completely necessary. People like what they like just because you like it. it doesn't mean everyone has to as well
indeed, i love this film and the music, one of my favs
@@andreasvogler1875 see, _this_ is why people hate on Legacy. Because people like you feel the need to put down the original for no reason.
@@frenchynoob I didn't put it down. I only said that legacy was better. And I used to love the first one, until I grew up an watched it objectively and realised, that, while Tron is technically and visually groundbraking for its time, the story is mediocre and so is some of the acting. Tron Legacy wasn't groundbraking in any way, except mabe for the soundtrack being one of the best of all time, but it was overall a better movie than Tron, especially in regards to story and acting.
I often tell people that this movie is just a 2-hour music video for Daft Punk. Love the movie, but the music is SO damn good too.
If I watched this movie with zero dialogue, but with the music soundtrack still pumping in the background, it would still be a perfect movie!
One of only about a half dozen soundtracks I've purchased. Unmatched blend of orchestra and synthesizers.
Easily the best sci-fi movie soundtrack ever. I know this is true, because as a total laymen, I still think about, and listen to, this soundtrack regularly.
okay but daft punk literally already did make a 2-hour (well 90 minute) music video called interstella 5555
You Beat me! :D
For me the scene when Quorra sees the sun for the first time is one of the most beautiful scenes I have seen and Oliva really sold the scene 🥺
And how could you not fall in love with her when she laid her head on Sam's back!
@@rdyer8764 When she asks what Jules Verne is like did it for me. People act so jaded these days, seeing someone with a fresh sense of wonder is nice.
1000% agreed!
That scene is just Wilde man.
Dillinger: “CUTE!”
I dig her $350 dollar haircut! 😅
"That's wild"
Yes, that was Olivia Wilde (I'll see myself out lol)
Hahaha
@@AddieCounts The new comment translation algorithm thinks "Hahaha" translates to English as "haha". Clu might have overloaded.
@@AddieCounts OLIVIA WILDE IS MY CRUSH
The director (Joseph Kosinski) followed this up with the underrated gem Oblivion, staring Tom Cruise. The two of them reunited again for Top Gun: Maverick.
I always cry when I see Flynn sacrificing himself for his son... LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH!!!
I saw this on opening weekend at a time when I was not yet a dad. That scene now hits me waaay differently.
Maybe he did survive. Maybe he merged with Tron who was floating in the Sea of Simulation.
Fun fact: the little chip that Sam downloaded data onto had the image of the original identity disk from the first Tron.
I wish they'd mentioned it more clearly in the movie, but time was different on the Grid for Kevin. Others have done the math, but he spent something like a thousand years trapped there. I love this movie; the practical suits, the sound track, the atmosphere all just work so well together.
Great point.
One thing i love about this movie is that while Sam and Quora do have chemistry in spades, they don't force it into being a romance, but leave the continuing path of their relationship open at the end.
Which is fitting seeing as she is practically his sister.
@@krashd Exactly! So many platonic vibes there. 🥰 She's acting like a little sister asking her big brother about stuff she doesn't know about. The whole "Do you know Jules Verne... What's he like" line was adorable.
Seeing Tron: Legacy in IMAX 3D was absolutely incredible. The visuals, the soundtrack, the nods to the original….just amazing!!
Let’s hope Tron: Ares is a worthy sequel to this!!
FLYNN LIVES!!!
Tron Ares will be only woke sh*t!
Seeing it in IMAX on Adderall....
Woooooo-weeeeeeeeeee
Probably they will turn it as another woke bs which is sad
In theaters this movie was one of the few that used 3D stylistically to great effect. The scenes in the real world were shown in 2D and the scenes on the grid were shown in 3D.
I saw it in 3d. it was meh.
I saw it in IMAX 3D and it was wild. It did a Wizard of Oz thing where all the scenes in meatspace were in 2D and the Grid scenes were in 3D. The transition when he gets zapped was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in a movie.
To this day it’s the only 3D movie that was worth the money. I was enthralled
@@fusionaddict - Yeah, I saw it that way, too. IMAX 3D was the way to see it in the theaters. Great crowd energy, too.
The Grid’s cyber-neon aesthetic from this movie is iconic to this day, I can’t wait to see it return. If you have the time, react to the show “Tron: Uprising”, the same people who worked on Spiderverse worked on this first
Addie, the canonical reason for the graphical difference between the two films is- the first grid was a corporate construct created on QDOS/DOS. The new grid was a creation of Kevin Flynn and didnt use a standard architecture. It was an extension of his personality, not bound by Encom.
22:28 Michael (Zeus) Sheen is one of those underrated actor that don't enough credit for his talents.
Good Omens reactions!
This one is such an underrated gem 💎
The name on the place Sam is living is the name of the guy from the first movie who started the company. The old guy working on the laser
And it was a garage. He told Dillenger he sometimes wished he were "back in that garage" where he started Encom.
This was such a treat for us Tron fans that got to see the original in theaters… what a visual and audio masterpiece! 🖤
Triple sneeze: Achievement Unlocked!
Must have been all that dust in the arcade!
I like to have a word regarding the multi-sneeze 🤣
Oh no, that's my bane of my existence!... 🤣
@@jehoiakimelidoronila5450 See "photic sneeze reflex" or "autosomal compelling helio-ophthalmic outburst" (ACHOO) syndrome.
Serinda Swan plays one of the sirens who undresses him for the games. She's an underrated actress who went on to star in Coroner and the last season of Reacher.
She also did this other show that was cancelled too early, "Breakout Kings". I think it was the first thing I saw her in after she did T:L.
The aesthetic works really well, because orange, and teal contrast really well, since they are on the opposite ends of the color wheel. And the addition of shiny black is a great touch.
Orange and teal are used a lot in movies.
@@3DJapan precisely because they contrast well, but are not eye-gouging colors
This movie had the best marketing campaign ever. "Flynn Lives" events, online games and challenges where you could get all kind so real world swag. Enamel pins, postcards, I got an Encom door badge and lanyard, lots of stuff.
Bruce Boxleitner(Alan) starred in one of my top three greatest sci-fi television shows ever, Babylon 5.
In order:
1: FIREFLY
2:BABYLON 5
3: STAR TREK
He was also married to Mellisa Gilbert(Half-Pint from Little House)for a length of time.
All of these series are fantastic! Highly recommended, though you have to commit a dozen years or so to soak in all of "Star Trek" if you do just one screening per week. "Orphan Black" is another favorite.
Bruce was also in a series called "How the West was Won" about a family moving from Virginia to Oregon in the mid-1800's. Very well done: Emmy winner and highly rated. Pilot was a 2-hour TV movie. That was followed by a 3-episode mini-series, then a TV series of 25 episodes over two seasons.
Daft Punk did a masterful job with the score.
The soundtrack, especially in the climax fight, is incredible. Flynn Lives.
22:14: "And then Clu went rogue!"
Well, not really. He's a program. He was doing exactly what he was told, like a program does. "Perfect" is such a broad term, so easily misinterpreted. The film becomes grand, almost Shakespearean tragedy, because Kevin is ultimately at fault. Clu was essentially Kevin's other "child," and he unintentionally gave that "child" bad instructions, bad education, and Clu could only act on what Kevin had told him to do.
Clu did what Flynn told hím.
He grew up, valueing other things. Clu didn't.
Clu is the Sys. Admin for the Grid basically that promises that comes up and asks if you wanna run a program. That why he had to ask Flynn his User if he was still to create the perfect system. Flynn's "Yeah..." ran the program.
There's an amazing animated show as well called Tron: Uprising. Only ran for one season. Deserved so much more. Really fleshes out the whole world.
We all know that if it had went on longer, Bob Iger and company would have found some way to ruin it. Just as they've ruined everything else Disney has, that they've ever touched. I'm glad there's no more. So long as Iger is running that company, I don't want to see any more.
Criminally unrelated animated series that expanded the lore. And we got a bit of a Quorra backstory in one episode, too!
Loved Jeff Bridges’ Lebowski-esque reimagining of Flynn, loved Michael Sheen’s crazy antics (personally, the one bright spot in the Twilight Saga), and I love everything about Olivia Wilde’s performance.
"This is the sun, this is the sky, here are some trees."
I lol'd. XD
After jumping off of the Shangri-la tower (tallest building at the time), Sam lands on Burrard street across from a Tim Horton's that I'm at quite often ;)
In Vancouver?
Best work Daft Punk ever delivered!
Bless you. Bless you.
Wait for it ..
Bless you. 😊
I sneeze in threes as well. 🙂
@@KWHCoaster Mine tend to come in threes as well. 😅
Sam living in Dumont's old Garage where 'ENCOM' began was a really nice touch.
That wasn't the founder's garage. It was several shipping containers made into a garage/ home. The name Dumont on the container is an easter egg - the tower guardian's name in the game grid was Dumont.
@@timmooney7528 Don't remember the meeting in Dillinger's office?
@@terrylandess6072 Dillinger and Walter Gibbs had a conversation about how Gibbs started the company in his garage. Dillinger made the threat to put him back there. Dumont (Gibb's counterpart in the system) was the name for the tower guardian that allowed Tron to communicate with Alan1
@@timmooney7528 Yeah, I happened to see that film back in 82 when it released and have had various copies since then. I still don't get what this fuckin interrogation is about.
@@terrylandess6072 I got the impression the scene accentuates Dillinger and the MCP's pursuit of power is affecting the rest of the company's business and research. Gibbs is making it clear Dillinger isn't operating with the company's interests in mind.
Thank You for this one today, Addie💝and "Bless You" too!😂This is one of the Coolest Sequels Ever: improved upon the Original in every way, and it always leaves Me wanting MORE!👍Here's Hoping for the Third Movie...🤞
Greetings program!
BLESS YOU, BLESS YOU...... BLESS YOU.
Love everything about this movie, from the Dude to the perfect and awesome aesthetic. But the sountrack is just pure bliss and voyage!
Daft Punk’s soundtrack was absolutely brilliant. Fit the movie perfectly. They killed it.
Addie, you should have seen this is 3D in the theaters. With the huge subwoofers and cinema experience in 3D, it was epic. I have a 3D ZTV from 2012, and this movie is still epic. Surround Sound with a good subwoofer and 3D at home, it's awesome. You should also watch the making of the original Tron on UA-cam as well as the making of Tron Legacy.
I remember when they played the fake tron trailer in theaters to see how people would react. I was so hyped
This movie is criminally underrated and one of my favorites.
I don't know about a third movie, but there's a 10 min short film called "Tron Next Day" that came with the dvd of the movie.
My friend and I left this premier with tears in our eyes, was so good and the soundtrack was everything
Nice reaction Addie, this one is awesome and 28 years later we've come far with CGI and other effects. Great story line and good role for Olivia. Daft Punk's music was perfect.
The soundtrack album is on of my favourites to listen to while working.
real
Yes one of my favourite movies and a soundtrack I still listen to regularly to this day
The two DJ's in the End Of Line club that Zeus talks to are Daft Punk in a cameo.
Their name in the movie (MP3) was a nice touch.
I've never bought a soundtrack for a movie so fast after leaving the theatre
Good sequel 👌 There are a couple small things I would change, but overall very well done. Its also cool that much of the film was shot in Vancouver BC where I live.
Sam and Quorra ride the motorcycle across the lions gate bridge at the end as she see's her first sun rise.
Fun fact: lions Gate film studios who have made many well known movies. Such as American Psycho, Hunger games, and John Wick was named after that Bridge in Vancouver.
The Daft Punk music made this movie great. It sucks they've broken up and wont do the next one.
"Daddy Flynn." Hahaha, cracks me up everytime you say it. lol
Thanks for reacting to this classic. I hear they are making another one. Can't wait!
Daft Punk. They scored the entire movie with original music...They are in the club scene as the DJs in the movie in case you didn't know Addie... If you don't know anything about Daft Punk and what music accomplishments they have... You outta look into it... 🤘🏼
the music was all Daft Punk!
You really hit it right on the nose when you said the music in this movie was going to be awesome Addie! It was composed by the electronic group “Daft Punk”, who frequently point to the original Tron movie as their inspiration for wanting to make their music! I used to play them on college radio before anyone knew who they were!
I loved this movie and I think it’s severely underrated. Daft Punk did a phenomenal job making the music for this movie.
TRON &LEGACY is INCREDIBLE | Film
Greetings, Addie. Welcome back to the grid. TRON: Legacy (2010) was incredible indeed. This is also my all-time favorite live-action Disney movie. In fact, I like this movie a lot more than most of the Disney live-action remakes that came out in recent years. The VFX for this one really holds up better than the first film. I even own the IMAX version of the movie on Blu-ray with the aspect ratio switch being retained for seven scenes. Here's how the lightcycle sequence appeared in the IMAX version. ua-cam.com/video/SqSuRdkglxM/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
TRON: Ares (2025) comes out in October of next year and that's gonna be my most anticipated Disney movie of 2025.
They will probably destroy it as another woke bs
Grew up watching the original cause of my dad and this one love them both and love tron legacy and love when Tron remembers and am still hoping for a day that they continue this world since the third has been put off for years now will have to watch this ater though cause am busy and want to see this on my laptop not my phone
Olivia Wilde had never done martial arts before this movie, but her trainers were so impressed they suggested she keep doing it after the filming ends
Hi again Addie!😊 The planned direct sequel to this film was scrapped by Disney. The new film "Tron: Ares" (2025) will be a standalone sequel. The film is already in post-production with a theatrical release October 10, 2025.😉
Hugely underrated movie and soundtrack. Also..... Joseph Kosinski directed this movie and went on to direct Oblivion and Top Gun: Maverick. The entire scene of Gem and Sam entering the End of Line club was just awesome..... especially with the music.
The visuals and music make this a total work of art.
The name Gem is play on names carried over from the first movie. Digital Research created Graphics Environment Manager, a competitor for Windows in the mid 80's.
CLU was the name of a programming language which dates back to the early 70's. More modern uses of the name refers to command line users - the folk who process commands through the terminal versus the graphical environment.
I love how much un-answered stuff there is in the movie. They hint at Tron being saved when his lights turn back on as the light blue over the orange he had as Rinzler. I think that's part of what makes some movies so good, NOT explaining everything, and just letting us wonder.
If anyone is looking for more Tron stories there's an animated show that was on Disney called Tron: Uprising. It's actually very good. I'm sure its on Disney+
I have adored this movie since the first time I saw it. I still very much love all the eye candy, clean visuals and sounds, characters, and THAT MUSIC! I always take a chance to re-watch this one. 😊
Now that is how you do a segue. That alone would have earned a like. I not only like how they laid out the story, but even the small things like Dillingers kid being in the movie were nice touches.
Bravo Addie, T:L is one of the most underrated movies of all time!
The Tron arcade game in Flynn’s arcade is an actual 1980s Tron arcade game….I put a lot of quarters in that thing back in the day…. :)
Like Avatar, this was one of the relatively few movies actually filmed in 3D (versus being converted to 3D). It looked *AMAZING* at the theater.
I play the soundtrack when I chill out. It’s one of my favorite scores.
This is my favorite movie of all time 💙💙💙😭😭😭
Was this the first time where vfx were used to de-age an actor?
Also, the two DJs at the bar scene were actually the Daft Punk duo group, who created the music for the movie.
If you want more from this specific version of the universe, there's an animated TV series and a Visual Novel that expand things out and give more story. :)
I have a Tron Legacy pinball machine and it's awesome too. The first film will always be my fav but this one has some of the best CGI Ive seen.
While you wait for the next Tron, check out Tron: Uprising, an animated show with Elijah Wood voicing the main character. Saddly it was canceled, but it does have 20ish episodes
Quorra and Gem are the hottest sci-fi characters in cinema history. lol... This was a fun movie. I'd be down for a third.
It is a visually beautiful film. And the soundtrack is off the chain amazing. It was a fantastic experience in theater.
Love this movie. Wife and I watch it every 1-2 years. Looks beautiful, great sound and music, and some solid heart.
it was one of the best experiences i had in a movie theater
Tron was the first feature film to extensively use CGI, so it's fitting that the CGI would be good in this movie as well.
I haven't seen the first one. Rented this one so I could watch her reaction. Worth it.
Easily one of my top ten fav movies! Glad you enjoyed it so much Addie! :)
Tron: Ares isn't just in development. They finished filming just a week or so ago. I won't give away who's in it, unless you catch the trailer. But it's in post production currently. We don't know if or how it will tie into Legacy. There's been talk of a rebooted sequel and there's been talk of it being a continuation. The only thing we do know is that it's based on a script that was written at the time this came out as an intended direct sequel to Legacy.
Yes there is a third one. It should be out in 2025.
Daft Punk did for this movie what Vangelis did for Bladerunner.
I saw this in theatres and it blew my mind. It made me want to be a filmmaker and a motion-capture actor. Now I’m writing my own scripts 😊 the Daft Punk soundtrack still lives on in my collection.
The Daft Punk Soundtrack for this movie is phenominal, and I still use the music from the transport as my morning alarm.
remember you always have to sneeze 3 times in a row ...good reaction ..cheers have a great day..blessed be
The music in this movie is incredible too
Fun fact, this film was released in 3d in theatres, but the 3d effects weren't turned on until he went into the Grid
The film wasn't originally filmed in 3d. It was processed into 3d after the fact.
#addiecounts# you are awesome tron was awesome to overcome his reconditioning to help flynn because he remembers to help his friend and he remembers helping flynn to get to victory to help free the grid and he knows and remembers from the grid with flynn getting injured in the first movie and seeing sam bled caused him to start remembering ❤❤❤your awesome addie
Every major character in this movie is dealing with a great loss of some kind, and the music subtlety reflects that. Softly sad and bittersweet to the core.
I remember seeing this in theaters, it was in 3D. Not a great plan lol 😆. The way your face lit up with the light cycle scene was priceless. The recognizers got a face lift huh 😅😅
34:14 "That's wild"
Yes... Olivia Wilde in fact!
The Tron movies are so good, and I am happy to know they are working on a third one. I am going to have a hard time waiting another year and five months for the third one to release. At least I know it is happening YAY! I hope they have the same cast for Tron: Ares.
Tron Legacy is awesome! It looks amazing and Joseph Kosinski directed the heck out of it. Plus that Daft Punk score is perfection. Sadly I don't think the next movie Tron Ares, which I think has now been shot, has anything to do with this. 🙁
Hey Addy! Shout out from your favorite US Marine! This was one of my favorite films in the 80's! I didn't even hear of Tron Ares 2025 until I watched your review! Awesome. I can't wait until it comes out! And wasn't the scene in the beginning just so awesome when the guys like, "some kid owns the company" and he's like, "yeah, that's me!" And then continues to jump! So epic! I thought for sure he was gonna get away there! Had a few good twists in this movie too! Keep up the great reviews, kiddo! ❤🤍💙💛
Originally, there was supposed to be a continuation of Tron 2 with the same cast, but unfortunately the studio backed off.
So...one's sense of time on the Grid is different than what it is in the physical world. As they state in the movie, hours on the Grid are mere minutes out here.
Flynn was in there for 20 years of "real" time. But every year out here felt like centuries on the Grid. So...Flynn wasn't waiting 20 years to see his son again...he was waiting for over a millennia.
He looks like he's only aged 20 years anyway, because of the fact that, as a user, the rules of aging and everything else still work on his scale, rather than the Grid's. That's one of the many things Flynn insisted would help change our understanding of the world.
