Jack Thomas has been drumming most of his life. When he was 17, he lost his right arm in a a tragic workplace accident. Everything he’d worked toward up to this point had been with a goal of becoming a pro musician.
“Sorry, your arm is gone” is a life-changing phrase for anyone to hear, and a likely career-ending one for a drummer. But after just a few minutes of thinking he’d never play again, he realized that he could either let this overcome him, or he could do whatever he could to overcome it.
Jack challenges you to take your struggles and turn them into something you can overcome. If he can play “Duality” by Slipknot with just one arm, what’s your excuse?

Drumeo: I bet you can't play "Duality" by Slipknot.
Jack Thomas: Hold my beer...no, seriously hold my beer. I only have one arm!
Hahahahahaha savage
Ha underrated
Lol hahaha
I'm gonna use this one
Hahaha nice! And the guy himself even approves! Just awesome
"Duality" is a hell of a choice for a one-armed drummer. He achieved singularity. Mad respect, he's epic
Any song is a hell of a choice for a one armed drummer. However what’s impressive is his ability to play along with slipknots garbage timing, those guys are horribly inconsistent in their playing.
Tyler Rosal shut up nerd
Tyler Rosal or maybe you’re a worse timer than you make yourself out to be. Not that it is of any importance. This dude’s onearmed drumming is TIGHT
DOH! You obviously missed the point of what I said, it’s impressive for anybody to keep Time with a slipknot song because slipknot is all over the fucking board. You can’t put a click track to their music it won’t line up, ever.
I can't even play Duality as good as him, and I have all my limbs. This guy is a determined guy that ain't scared of achieving anything. Crazy respect for this guy 🔥🔥👍👍
Dude played a Joey Jorison piece with one arm. This man is the definition of inspiration.
First of all, this isn’t a complicated or fast Slipknot song to drum. Secondly, this really isn’t very impressive - I’m convinced loads of drummers could do this one handed with a bit of practice.
bro really trying to find any way of hating on a dude with one arm. With 1 arm i bet hes pulled more bitches than you @@Mmmmilo

"If I can play Duality with one hand, what's your excuses?" Love that.
I don’t have just one hand :|
@@mlgdickbutt8298 We got a wise guy over here! 🤣
My other hand gets in the way
yeah, duality without dual arms. the irony
Of course!
Things that impress me the most:
- He learned how to do fast fills with one hand as well as play beats that require his one arm to do 16th notes between surfaces.
- His arm is actually able to keep this up for the whole song.
- He actually decided to continue playing drums after losing a limb. That's passion.
I wonder if he was already left handed before losing his arm or if he had to adapt to it? Because I know I can barely do shit left handed lol
@@elbeetlebeasto Drumming will make you ambidextrous.
John Bailey he probably isn’t, which makes it all the more great.
@@garretth8224 I've been playing drums for 33 years, and am still not ambidextrous
Even if I lost both arms, I'd do/try anything to play drums again. Make something work. Have enough passion, almost nothing is impossible.
"If I can play Duality by Slipknot with just one hand, what's your excuse?" Damn that bites. Inspirational words and a sick drum session.
Nothing but props for this man. Not only for his drumming ability but for pushing through after his accident.
My man needs a bionic arm. Maybe to hold his beer.
No, to hold his cigar
His massive titanium balls
He better have general grievous arms in the future based on all these replies. That would be dope
This is your man?
(JJBA part 3 spoiler)
Give him Avdol’s arms
This is just amazing. He’s not trying to play like he’s using two arms, he’s playing like he’s made a unique style out of one
Yeah, that's what makes me respect him even more. Music is not a competition, play things your way.
Well he... has? He needs a special technique to play with one arm. How would he do otherwise?
Exactly. Superb.
Yes, he’s playing like he’s using only one arm!
Amazing strength and determination, very inspiring.
No more excuses, guys.
Respect and gratitude for such example of strength and willing.
I have no arms and no legs. 😭
From the pics of you on bass and the setup of your drums pre-accident, it looks like you were right-handed too. That is so inspiring that you overcame your setback and came back better. Much respect man
It’s a testament to how amazing the human brain is. My mother was right handed also and she’s now a triplegic with only the use of her left upper extremity. She’s figured out how to do so much while lugging around 3 dead limbs. Yes, I have to be her 24/7 full time caretaker cuz she’s paralyzed in roughly 80% of her body, but her brain heals a tiny bit everyday and has made adjustments in order to overcome. Her brain has to literally fight itself to survive because her injury is of the brain itself. This young man has to overcome his brain everyday too because even though he knows he doesn’t have that arm, his brain wants to believe it’s still there. Humans are remarkable, and we have only scratched the surface of what our brains are capable of.
Does this mean this guy could have played this while holding a beer before his accident? What an absolute champ!!
Or he could have played it twice
Mind blown dude. What a sandbagger!

This dude is an inspiration. Not because he only has one arm and has clearly overcome a lot, but because of the message he's spreading. You can do anything you set your minds to! I was involved in a car accident in 2019 that left me paralyzed from the waist down. I never imagined I'd be able to drum again without the use of both my legs. If we view of obstacles not as "in the way" but instead "the way forward" we can achieve anything we desire. I now drum using an electric trigger as the bas drum, sitting next to my snare. My mantra is control what you can, accept what you can't, and keep going. Cheers man... rock on!
Bless up brotha! Thank you for your words.
I'm a c3-c6 incomplete. I lost my ability to shred on the guitar, so I just changed my style. I now jam stoner doom instead of thrash. Adaptation is a crazy thing.

His paradiddles are probably better than mine...
Oh F!!!
ahh, i had to think a second before i got that xD
The most underrated comment on this video
Bit offensive , but funny. Shrek approves.
Mmm. Well it might be that he could use a virtual right hand. So the first stroke would be Left, Virtual Right, Virtual Right, Left. So short hand is L-VR-VR-L, VR-L-L-VR pattern. Now so you ask WTH is a Virtual Right? Well possibly using his left hand he substitutes his left hand for a right hand strike. He could possibly hit the drum head (skin) where his right hand would normally hit. So since this dude is obviously highly driven and motivated I propose we call this paradiddle variant a ‘paradiddledo’ rudiment in honor of this guy’s ‘can do’ attitude. My hi-hats are off to you Mate. Bravo!

Thank you SO much for making this video! I really needed to see this! I was a musician who suffered a stroke in 2012. My left side was paralyzed and I was in a wheelchair. The first time I sat behind my drum set after I was home from the hospital, I just sat behind it and cried because I couldn’t do anything... I just figured I’d never play again.. but, I really need to take some of these techniques and ideas and just bite the bullet and practice... it’s time. Thanks for the inspiration!!
I suffered a hemorrhagic stroke in 17 and did the exact same thing i almost got rid of my sticks because seeing them depressed me
I had the same exact reaction when I came home and touched my guitar after I lost my hearing. Eventually it lasted "only" for 4 months (didn't recover completely), but I was sure I'd never hear and play music again. Try. When you make it, it'll be like you're born again.
