after 20 yrs of b&bs and hostels I need my own home" ive managed to save the deposit bit by bit and its safe in the credit union but no one will rent to me because I'm from a traveling background

Here is an idea for Peter, he can put in an application to deed poll and change his surname, the application process is quite simple, Peter has a good head on his shoulders, it’s just the surname that is a blocker. Best of luck guys and thanks Paul for sharing
Was thinking the same thing. Change your name (even though u should not have to), get yourself established with a home. You can always change your name back in the future when you have a solid foundation. Best of luck anyway 🙏
@@markb4357 in order for Peter to better himself with a home he’s blocked just because of his name, and it’s totally wrong, but if I was in this situation I’d change my name and secure my home and then he can change his name back, he doesn’t even have to tell anyone only the landlord and the welfare will have to accept his statutory declaration confirming his new name and he can get a house and then get another statutory declaration with his real name, it will cost him 100 euros to do it himself, the 100 euros is for stamp duty for filing a motion and the affidavit grounding it, and for the record I fully agree with you that nobody should have to change their name, and some people have two houses and some people have none and it’s wrong, the world is full of greed, article 40.1 of the constitution states that all citizens are equal before the law and that is not true, some people are treated like royalty and some people are treated like shit, I am from the industrial schools and I would be the last person to look down on Peter, I stand in solidarity with Peter and I hope he gets a home because he deserves one

Is there people sleeping in tents across the city's of Ireland. Something like skid row bit not as large. For example if a person put up a tent in any city in Ireland and one tent became many would the law etc allow it.
It's nowhere near as bad as skid row but there is a homeless problem in Ireland.. It's mainly in the cities that you'll see ppl living on the streets.
The Garda would mostly leave them alone unless there's something on for tourists, then they would move ppl out of sight
Looking at him and hearing him speak, you could not be able to tell that he is a traveller, he speak with a Dublin type of accent, but a travellers accent?!, so landlords judge him by his name?, That,s terrible , I know travellers who are o Brien's, and cauly, and conners, and I know none travellers with the SAME surname!, Infact I come from a travelling background but was raised in childcare all my life, my surname is a very common name in the traveller community, but where I'm living ?, There is also NONE travellers who are mc donagh, ..it is sad that in this day and age people are still predigist!, Where I'm living , the travellers are well known and mix with none travellers, some are married to none travellers woman and men, both groups are raised in this town and go to the same school,they all grow up together and become mates! It seems to me that it is only business people who are still being predigist!. Like pub owners, hotel owners, shops etc, etc,.. SAD REALLY!....
