Fr. Richard Rohr changed my life and brought me closer to Jesus.

Father Rohr has finally answered questions for me that I've had for years. As a Christian, I was tired of hating, judging, compartmentalizing, and allowing the beliefs that I was taught divide me from others. I now KNOW what to do with "Jesus" and how I relate to Jesus and not exclude others. Amazing. Now I can serve the Universal Christ, which I felt has been there all along. Thank you Richard Rohr.

9:34 ... most of us were raised with an understanding of religion as transactional, not transformational. This is something, at the age of 50, that I’ve finally come to realize. What Rohr says is something that would help all Christians- in every denomination-if they weren’t competing with each other.

Coming here in 2020 and seeing “white privilege” is being talked about years before the events of 2020. I respect Richard Rohr more than anything and he’s given me a new way at looking at the topic of race.

I wonder if I would had left the Catholic church (in West Germany) and become an agnostic in early years, if I had come across someone like Richard Rohr. Indeed I can agree with Mary Stamper: this also seems to be the first sane Catholic I have ever heard. Okay, I exaggerate a little. For instance I have read Meister Eckhart, the 14th century mystic, and I was impressed. But I was also impressed by mystics from other denominations and religions, and it is so damn rare that you find someone who digs a little deeper into religious tradition, than the ordinary, conventional believer, and someone who has to offer something to the spiritual seeker, as I am, in this second half of my life, that goes beyond conventional Christian doctrine, to something more - well, in Richard Rohr's words - something more universal.

    R-a-d-i-c-a-l Compassion- Richard Rohr.
    a. The Religion concept
    i. We were given a wrongly TRIBAL religion concept (instead of a COSMIC religion), thus igniting our natural human instincts of a “competitive mind”, western capitalist mind, “win or lose”- all about wining
ii. Why don’t we change, why we fall?: Human limitations: “Humans only see what they were told to pay attention to.” (The gorilla in the room experiment).
iii. We were told wrong interpretations of the gospel: “God the dictator, in a win-lose scenario, unlikable, a “he” God told us to love unconditionally, but he didn’t love unconditionally…?, told us to forgive 7x70, but God didn’t? = untruth just by its contradictory.
iv. Thus, we don’t seek the common good as we are overwhelmed with the individuality. We in America are overwhelmed by individualistic society.
    v. Our redemption: understand Radical Compassion: Jesus returns to history as a FORGIVING VICTIM, forgiving us all even though we make Jesus a victim of our own sins- he forgives us and wants us to receive his love. That we don’t deserve. We instead translate that message into required violence- “transactional religion” not a transformational religion
vi. The God concept: Humans have wrongly transformed the concept of God the Father- with our own human experiences of human fatherhood with its natural defects and issues. God is about the Trinitary concept, beyond the “old man with a beard, omnipotent: it’s also a bout suffering, ‘looser’ of Jesus in the cross. It’s also about the “cosmic Christ” beyond the Jesus experience- he is in everything and everywhere as opposed to a pyramid God- elevator, climbing theology: he is up there: Jesus came to reverse that mentality: it’s a “circle dance”: “eternal flow” that never stops. Coincides with modern physics/ cosmology: from the atom to the universe” it’s all about a dynamic flow. Jesus came to transform, change our conscience from a transactional, win-lose, mentality. We need to be attracted to our Father’s unconditional acceptance and love in peace.
vii. Our Mind: the great challenge in our lives, in our society: It is just neurologically, and physiology attracted to threatening, punitive and damaging, fear. Neuroscience: mind is attracted to negative oppositional, antagonistic, fearful thought, then we will be attracted to it like Velcro. It works… threats, violence- like a parent: exchange transformation for transactions. Solution: be conscientious of this dangerous and internal reality, and Meditation. Positive, joyful moments are lost like Teflon- hard, very hard to hold on to JOY: solution: savor joy for some time. Solutions: meditation, patience, be conscientious.
viii. Jesus became a vulnerable child: Christmas: God is humble, accessible vs the miracle of the resurrection = it is not to be meant as just a miracle, but a revelation of the pattern of life: the same works for me too = course of transformation ending in resurrection vs transactional redemption.
ix. Violence… Christianity was bankrupted as it is kwon as violent. “God is violent thus we need to be violent”
    x. What is going to open my heart space and enter in the flow of God. It’s about the Trinitarian flow dance in life; sometimes we need to reconcile our damaged perception with a male image, sometimes with a female image in our “human” journey.
    b. Life, Bible is about learning with METHAPHORS.- Fundamentalist take message literally. Use encouragement and explanations as opposed to using SHAME = it’s a matter of perspective. Jesus’s example.
    i. “Tell the truth, but tell it slant.” Emily Dickinson. The power of metaphor to discover truth but you need to present with BEAUTY, like music, poetry, Jesus inspirational parables and stories: seduce the soul! Vs SHAME, we are so use to hard, tough message that we become insensitive…
ii. We need to be enlightened so we can see, is a process of living and feeling, not a destination. You see through light, you don’t see the light.
    c. Our condition of “White privilege” makes us have BLIND spots: Our Power and Privilege blinds our senses and understanding of what really is the pain and suffering of others.
    i. We want to see ourselves from our condition as American and or white and or as “normal” which is a big lie: that we are ok, as we are educated, accepted, heterosexual, etc. we can only pretend understand our own medium: That’s call Narcissistic and denying reality because our conceded way as center of reference without really considering pain, suffering, the jails, the suffering in the third world.
ii. You have to meet other side, other people: who don’t live with your own rules of success, your morality, your narcissistic environment, so you can learn other people are more happy and/or more free than I am. Learn the things that you don’t know
iii. Solution? Invaluable experience of the Poor: Poor and The Powerless: helping the poor is also about saving ourselves (as it is also about love). The powerless are more accessible to transformation.

I am truly sorry, you are all experiencing so much hurt. I want you to truly know I will pray for you. Not for pity, or to make myself "better". Hurt from church is something I'm well acquainted with, and am still in therapy because of it. But I will truly pray, we can speak to each other as Christ asked us. "To love our neighbor as ourself". If we can start there, we could bring our better selves before each other, and before a bigger, hurting world. Peace be with you all.

Pns p. 189 “bliss awaits those who can possibly make it through the tragedy of what has happened to Christ in the Church.”
Ws p. 64 “As I now see it Christianity has perpetuated a shortsighted view of Christ and, consequently, a shortsighted view of the rest of us. Christ’s passage was the revelation of the passage of every human being, and any misreading of him is a misreading of the whole of humanity. Investigating Christ’s human experiences in terms of consciousness or self opens up a whole new dimension of his Truth and revelation, and not only his, but our own and that of the whole of creation.”
Rc p. 282 “The mind can find no definitive satisfaction or fulfillment with mere concepts and hearsay. What man is seeking is the living experiential reality of the Truth, his own immediate experience of this truth. Until he does, he will go right on questioning and being dissatisfied. Even if man knew the truth, he could never be fulfilled by merely ‘believing’ it. He is only fulfilled by experientially living it - knowing it firsthand.”
Ws p. 107 “To say that Christ’s self or consciousness was eternal gives an entirely different picture and meaning to Christ than if we say his self or consciousness was not eternal…I think the West will come upon its own set of problems when it faces the impermanence of Christ’s self or consciousness, but, at the same time, this will reveal an entirely new dimension of Christ’s revelation - of this I am certain.”
Ws p. 156 “But who can understand death and resurrection coming after a life of union and oneness with God? Who can understand the true nature of this death and what the resurrection reveals of Christ’s divine nature? Because of this mystery I regard Christianity as the most difficult and mystical of all religions; Christ is the most unbelievable and unknown Truth there is - and the most difficult of all Truths.”
Rc p. 78 “Sometimes the impression is given that Christianity has a monopoly on forgiveness, salvation, savior, eternal life, God’s Spirit, grace, and so on, when, in fact, Christianity took all this straight from Judaism! The revelation of ‘Christ’ had nothing to do with any of this and changed none of it.”
Rc p. 83 “Basically, there is no such thing as ‘Christian mysticism’ because Christianity - transformation into Christ - is the essence of mysticism.”
Rc p. 140 “To think the anthropomorphic biblical interpretation of God ‘generating’ or ‘begetting’ an Uncreated ‘Son’ could have justified a transition in the Church’s whole understanding of the Trinity and Christ, can only be put down as the most flagrant wrong turn in the entire history of Christianity.”
Rc p. 144 “There has to be God (Logos) before there is any incarnation of the Logos - before there is any Christ and before there is the created man Jesus. No question, the Creed must be totally restated, Christians today are not the semi-polytheists of yesterday.”
Rc p. 157 “To my knowledge, however, the Greeks never agreed hypostasis meant persona - and indeed it does not. In time, however, in the West at least, hypostasis and person were used as synonymous terms. So due to this error, there occurred another switch from the original hypostasis to person - a monumental wrong turn as regards a true understanding of the Trinity and Christ.”
Rc p. 170 “Like the fathers, Christians would be horrified to think they were polytheists or believed in three gods. But this is why the Trinity is kept at a distance, declared a ‘mystery’ incapable of the human mind to grasp. This is also why the Trinity means relatively nothing to the average Christian and plays no part in his spiritual life.”
Rc p. 201 “Sometimes we wonder how Western civilization ever became so self-oriented compared to other civilizations that were more oriented to the benefit of everyone over their individual selves. Well, who invented the individual and particular ‘person’ or self, and who gave it ontological priority over everyman’s common human nature? Christianity!”
Rc p. 242 “What few people realize, however, is that the official Church or Christian language is totally premised on this use of idioms instead of on the truth of Christ.”
Rc p. 248 “No question, the C of P is the most deceiving ruse in all of Christian history a ruse responsible for totally wrong views of Christ, the Trinity and the man Jesus.”
Rc p. 249 “Yet the more divine one makes the Logos’ human nature, the more Christ fades from the picture and the more Christianity deteriorates to a Jesus-cult.”
Rc p. 257 “But who knows what people think they are praying to or worshiping? We can probably say for certain they are not praying to the dual natures of Christ!”
Rc p. 279 “Eliminate the term ‘person’, and how is Christ to be envisioned as a single being? Without theology’s absolute dependence on person as an individual being, its Christologies would go down like a row of dominoes.”
Rc p. 291 “this is exactly what the Incarnation is telling us: not only is mankind not that bad, but rather, it is of greatest worth to God.”
Rc p. 300 “Even the best of theologians are reluctant to admit any radical existential change in human nature - much less an ontological change. Instead, they assure us everyone will go on just the same - only better, of course.”
Rc p. 318 “The day Christianity lost this understanding of deification as the way man is saved, is the day it lost Christ.”
Rc p. 323 “That down the road, Christianity was turned into the narrow, naïve and childish view we have today - i.e., only the man Jesus is Christ, only Jesus could ever be eternally one with God - is the inevitable loss of the whole revelation of the Incarnation, and, consequently, of Christ and Christianity…Christianity’s exclusive, boxed-in view of Jesus and Christ, not only aborts man’s spiritual journey, but will be its own undoing - why? Simply because it is not the Truth of ‘Christ’.”
Rc p. 335 “To say Christian theology is ‘complicated’ is the understatement of all time. It is an unadulterated mess. It so defies common logic as to require man to forfeit his intellectual integrity in order to ‘believe’.”
Rc p. 465 “What is unfortunate, however, is those who write the history of the early development of Christian thought and doctrine, consistently rely on the present-day Aristotelian rendition of it. It could be said this is a deliberate attempt to eliminate any possible ‘Platonic’ understanding of Christ as a universal in order to make Christ solely one particular man - Jesus, of course.”
Rc p. 486 “Loss of self is the very foundation of Christianity.”
Ecc p. 82 “The primary purpose of my writing, however, was less the subject of no-self than to put into the field of Mystical Theology a whole stage of the spiritual journey presently missing.”

Ask a straight person who has been labeled, treated as a gay person how it is being normal; there is nothing normal about it. Its more difficult navigating life when you are not the label.
We all feel the same emptiness and sadness about shame, guilt, hurt, regret, etc- all these emotions have the same effect on male or female and regardless of skin color.
Fr Rohr joined the Franciscans at age of 18, educated well, expert on the Enneagram, known/studied under venerable monks, and other scholars, travelled the world, worked with prisoners, etc- I have always wanted to ask Fr Rohr out of all the topics where he is “doesn’t divide the field”, how does he not see his life has been lived at the mercy, love and grace of God- this is his reward, ultimate benefit for giving his life to God- and he is calling it white privilege.

    Dear Mr Gutierrez:
Conspiracy to engage in human trafficking.? Yes. I think some.
I wanted to let you know that I have legal advocy work for Juvenile Family Law Court I Clark County Nevada.
I have apparently run into some human trafficking.
    Flexi bus
And now Greyhound show signs of making deliberate mistakes with bookings
because the mistake get them something that want. POWER. Is what they want, to take power over someone's life. They want to deliberately have a person reduced to a powerless position, so that they can have domination and control.
    Monstrous! These people are monsters.
I am convinced that these people prefer thrive off of the carnage of other people's lives. So the create carnage in other peoples lives as a trade. This is their trade.
Flexi bus does it by canceling a legitimate ticket.
    Deleting the confirmation data.
Refusing to accept a legitimate because the bar scanner won't scan. Thereby leaving the trailer stranded, if the cannot pay for a higher prices ticket. This leaves the passenger in a dangerous or vulnerable position unless the stranded passenger can get help to get home from a relative or from a charitable agency.
Greyhound did it by issuing me a Military Ticket.
But I am not Military. I don't have military ID. I only have my senior citizen California ID which I showed to the ticket agent when I bought the ticket in Los Angeles, I paid cash over-the-counter.
Now, when I get ready to ride the bus from Las Vegas on next Wednesday at 11:45, going back to Los Angeles, because I don't have supporting Military I D so the driver can examine the ticket at any time and upon his own discretion eject me from the bus anywhere. They may even seize the ticket, or destroy the ticker or falsely accuse me of misuse of a military ticket and I would have no evidence of their intention to traffic me against my will. So you can see just how precarious this situation could become. I could get stuck here. I would be ruined.
I noticed this and I made a verbal complaint to some Las Vegas Police Detctives which I caught just leaving work for the day.
I also went to the front desk the The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Headquarters and obtained a blank form, a citizen complaint form. I intend to fill it out and turn it in to the department.
I don't want to participate in human trafficking.
They deliberately make these mistakes because it gets them something that they want, but are not entitled to. Unwilling women entrapped and victimized.
And so it is in the Public interest that this complaint is needful.
I am also going to complain to the Federal Trade Commission.
I don't enjoy crucifying a good company who provides good service to the public. But these people are up to no good.
And it also has something to do with Las Vegas having being known throughout the whole world as an important seat of "Adult Entertainment".
So, I suspect that these collectives are taking advantage. Of undefended, unprotected females of all ages and descriptions.
    Sincerely,
    gospelgirlone

I love Richard, but if he would've kept on reading there in Revelation, Christ also says:
"But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the depraved, the murderers, the sexually immoral, the sorcerers, the idolaters, and liars of every kind, their place is the fiery lake of burning sulfur, which is the second death.”
I'm trying to reconcile it. You can't speak of the flowery language without being honest and incorporating this, which is literally one paragraph under.
What does it mean? All of us are surely cowardly at times. All of us have surely lied at times, even after conversion. Is it Christ talking about the ego? None of that comes with us, only the good?

Because he has very little understanding of Christianity and what it means to really follow Jesus, no real understanding of the bible and gets a lot of his stuff from new age philosophy, psychiatry, Buddhist and Hindu teaching, universal spirituality and atheistic biases from science. His concepts of non dualistic thinking, contemplative prayer and the cosmic Christ are also in direct contradiction to Christian teaching as well and only appropriate to new age spirituality.

Martin Baxter Amen! I'm shocked at the level of discernment - Christians fawn over this guys teaching - there is no Christ as the Scriptures present Him, no discipleship, no repentance, no preaching to exalt Jesus, God is always a 'mystery', Scripture with warning is either mocked or part of a wrongly understood narrative within a particular church tradition. God is unknowable and we're all saved regardless of what we believe, model or teach ! Comes across as a kind of Catholic Rob Bell although from what I have heard on a few videos so far this guy makes Rob Bell look like Francis Chan by comparison.

anastasia doxologia the eternal punishment is self induced. Jesus never condemned anyone. You might still be looking for a quick fix and a place to stand to look down upon others. The only true shame we should all feel.

Hell is not for humans because. How could ao I g God our father on heaven torture man for being put into a sinful world and because we did not obey him we were damned for. Ever. That's the message. Fundamentalism is a perversion of gods message.
