This process of "dying" and allowing God, by his grace, to begin opening my eyes (and slowly defeating my dualistic mentality) has been an interesting ride. One thing Richard mentioned in another video that has stuck with me and very much given me a new view of things was the concept of (us) "forgiving an imperfect world". Today, while sitting in Costco, having a hotdog and Coke, I glanced at the shoppers around me and my usual judgmental evaluations ("She's fat", "He's a slob", "What a RUDE person", "What a terrible dresser", etc., etc., etc. were largely removed and the sensation of being a living prayer and loving those around me was happily present. All I can say is..........Richard is right on target and God is FULL of grace...!!!
Wow. He just told rich people and doctors and lawyers that their achievements are nothing and “just sort of stupid”. Seriously who has this kind of truth and boldness? And that everyone has this Immortal Diamond and the only difference is the degree to which they’re living into the awareness of it. My God this can change the world. If we just listen and allow it to be done unto us.
95% of the world's people are not "rich" people, doctors or lawyers - most live in abject poverty and can't even provide for themselves let alone help anyone else and most of them are no closer to God than the next.
Yes, you need to drop the “me”, the conditionings of the mind the personalities, becoming open, transparent, empty, innocent but of course not naive, reevaluating and the stories what we’re telling about ourselves need to fall away. Isn’t it not worthy in this way to be in the presence of God?
See with the eyes of God? How is that possible? There is no way we can ever manipulate our brain to see with the eyes of God. How could we - we are certainly not capable of that!! It may be that we have an idea about God where we feel we know God well enough to see what he sees, but how do we know he even has eyes? I am a faithful believer but I do not pretend to see God. I do have strong feelings for God and the Word of God. Those feelings are guided not by my eyes. They are guided by the feelings of love God has given me for Him and others. What could be better than that? Respectfully submitted.
If I'd had a parish priest like Richard Rohr, I wouldn't have excommunicated myself from the Church at age 13 in 1960. @@DocJoby He half quoted Scripture then used it out of context to support his unbiblical version of the Gospel. If you listen to his other presentations and read his writings then compare them to historic Christianty - what was preached by Peter, John, Paul, Jude, James. And it's no good taking phrases of their writings without giving due respect to the context - you will see that it all departs from beliefs and practices found in the NT. Start with a Word, then, phrase, paragraph, the topic being discussed, book/Epistle, the wider message of Scripture. For example: Jesus is the only way, all other religions/ways are false; we are not divine (nothing in us is Divine); we are dead in trespasses and sin; salvation is by faith in the finished work of Jesus; we must be born again to become spiritually alive; Easter mystic practices are not a route to salvation, as they lead to a more profound delusion.
@@DocJoby Rohr presents a "religion" - a "way" - full of Eastern mystical practices. Yes, they are to be found in the Desert Fathers, but they got them from the Far East and added them to "Christian" practice. If you subscribe to RC theology, then this will seem acceptable (as it concurs with the RC catachism) esp considering its reverance for "tradition", but if you are a 5 solas Christian you see Rohr for what he is: a wolf in sheep's clothing. Read Gal. Ch1 and you will see the seriousness of his position. He is about as Christian in his teaching as a Hindu, Buddhist, Shaman, .....
@@DocJoby The Apostles preached Jesus as the only way because Jesus said it: I am the the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. All other ways lead to death, not life. If the founder of the Christian faith (God incarnate) taught this how can anyone dare to teach anything different? As to what He meant, any other system you can choose will not save you. You must believe that Jesus was the Christ, God manifest in the flesh, sinless, that He gave His life in your place and that by accepting Him as both Lord and Saviour you are accepted by God and become born again. Anything else leads to destruction; a lost eternity. How don't you know this?
This guy is the Santa Claus of rhetorical constructs. He has a bag full. There is no self. There is no higher self or lower self or true self or false self. We are consciousness. Individuated, loosely bound, consciousness. We vary in how refined, expanded, evolved our consciousness might be - which is a function of experience, which is a function of lifetimes lived. We are not all on the same lap around this oval called life. We may be many hundreds of laps apart. The lower number laps are prone to exoteric belief systems that paint things in black and white and offer carrot and stick constructions for achieving something with eternal consequences, both good or bad. Christianity is the most primitive of these constructs offering sensational promises and threats realized only after death - the ultimate carrot and stick, superstitious motif aimed at the most simple minded/lesser evolved who would respond and react to promises and threats. This man is a young soul preaching pure fiction yet he is completely overtaken by it. He may well remain with one foot nailed to the ground and go in circles for hundreds of incarnations on end. He is in love with his bag of mental constructions. All derived from a book of fiction. So say I. So said Albert Einstein and Thomas Jefferson.
Brother. I believe that many of your criticisms of "Christianity" are covered in this video. Richard Rohr does not believe in the punitive God that you describe. Nor is he denying that we all have individual consciousnesses. He is describing what he has called "The True Self", and he is distinguishing this from "The False Self" which are the ideas in your head about what you are, i.e. "Christian, Conservative, Republican, black". The constructs in your head are not 100% accurate, they are not real, and Richard is only saying that there is something deeper, more real, more true, more complete.
@Doctor Joby He's wrong. There is nothing deeper that what we are. If he is alluding to essence, then yes, we can be reduced to something pure - pure consciousness. But it is non-objective. It is an infinity. This man poeticizes. He philosophizes. He creates constructs. Abstractions that exist only between his ears. He's a populist. He tells people over and over again exactly what they want to hear to make them feel special, safe and apart from the rest in ways that gain them special favor and dispensation. If he doesn't believe in a punitive god then he isn't a Christian. Christianity revolves around the false notion of sin - and sin necessarily bifurcates those aligned with the pseudo Christian god from those non-aligned - and the non-aligned miss out on the after party at Club Nirvana - which is judgment applied. This man knows nothing. You know nothing. You are playing make believe and not only do you not realize it, but you can't understand it when explained to you - which is why I say theists have non-functioning brains. You are perfectly deluded. If there is some type of sentient singularity that belies the phenomenal and that may have engendered it - something you might assign the label god unto - not only do we not know it - but we can't know it as it would lay outside space/time unto which we are consigned and confined. If there are other dimensions, we are not privy to them - nor to anything that might derive from those dimensions. You are playing make believe and you refuse to see it. Does it require intelligence to beget intelligence? It seems very plausible. The universe may well have had an intelligent source. But we do not know it and we can't know it and we can't infer it through "a priori" philosophical rumination - all teleological, ontological, cosmological, causal, and moral arguments aside. Existence has to be demonstrated. It can't be argued. You do not argue something into existence. And you can't assert the existence of something ostensibly formless, non-local, and unbounded. It would be like objectifying the unified field.
I don't know what the fuck you just said, but you are obviously a kool aid drinker, in support of this charlatan and avoiding all the substance of my post to instead attack my, my what exactly? Where are my words robbing him of worth, or grace or whatever? This man has zero interest in truth. He is on this planet to hear himself talk. That's all.

He is preaching another Gospel. Not the Gospel of the Bible. He mis-quoted Scripture...
Where did he misquote?
Why was he wrong?
@@philjones7351 why did they preach that “Jesus” is the “only way” and what does that mean? Where does this guide us?
Truth is known when one who does not agree with another still gives them worth, respect and grace..just a thought
That's all.
God is love.
Thank you.
