  • Today’s book review is about Friedrich Nietzsche’s first book, The Birth of Tragedy that lay out his ideas about the Dionysian and Apollonian duality and his hope of the rebirth of spirit of Greek tragedy through the German composer, Richard Wagner’s, music. I summarize the book in 7 sentences and try to keep it short and snappy. The Birth of tragedy is a great starting point if you are interested in reading Friedrich Nietzsches original work.
the original title for this book is Die Geburt der Tragödie aus dem Geiste der Musik

Great video, Björn! I am reading complete works of Aristotle right now, and I agree, philosophy can feel like out of your league at times. I believe you have to really wrestle with these books. And when you do, you find so much value in them!

Actually the topics sound exactly like what I would want to learn about. Maybe not exactly, but I really do love Wagner his music and also philosophy. If it straight from the source then I might as well check it out too. Thank you so much for producing this amazing video Bjorn!

It’s a great book! I had to use a few helpful UA-cam videos to guide me through the time and context the book was written in. And that kind of “deciphering process” actually heightened the whole experience. It was a fun study!

Great video! Philosophy was always confusing and amusing at the same time. If you trap in it, it can drag you down with no outcome in the end. But it's good to read some once in a while...

He sounds like some of the folks I use to see beefin when I was on Facebook. God that seems another life ago. My wall wasn’t as clever and well with words as he was haha

I found myself highly annoyed with the romanticism of the book, but appreciative of Nietzsche’s point and his general brilliance. I read his later works first though which definitely contributed to the annoyance of it. As he matured he reigned in some of the wordiness though he kept his spunk.

A book that talks about anything.
    Except the birth of tragedy.
