A study of more than 50 mammal species found that, in over 80 per cent of cases, zoo animals live longer than their wild counterparts. Sholdn’t wild animals live longer with all that stressors like hunger, heat, cold etc or they are only promoting lifespan in humans 🤔

Interesting if true. Could the statistics be influenced by the access of medical care and lack of predators? There are a lot fewer ways to die in a zoo than in, say, the jungle?

The 'Momento Mori' by Joanna Ebenstein. And 'How Economics Explains The World: A Short History of Humanity' by Andrew Leigh look pretty interesting. I swear, I read more than just end of life stuff. It is more due to 'The bug' and personal life events. Last summer I was mostly reading productivity and 'Goosebumps' books. However, in my opinion/personal experience, reading end of life content is like taking bad tasting medicine that is effective. It's uncomfortable but you reap the benefits afterwards. I did finish 'Meditations' by Marcus Aurelius but now, I am thinking about reading ' Journey of Souls' by Micheal Newton.

What’s a book club without the capacity for civilised discussion? And if you crowbar open the being of the other participants that is antithetical to civility actually. And it’s unclean as the Bible says 🪬. Is there anyone left who isn’t a wolf here and who wants to observe ego boundaries between self and other? Frankly you’ve all taken #fomo too far when you’ve all been persuaded as a mass of people to just drool and offload all bodily waste upon your fellow man. It is profane and it’s unclean and nasty. Do you all idolise Dawkins so much that you just can’t live without watching him go to the lavatory? Couldn’t you just patiently wait for him to release his next book and considering the pros and cons and merits and fallacies of which there are many of said book (instead of following him into the gents in the unseen spiritual realm?) This is mass psychosis and it’s exactly what the Bible spoke of in the last days. Please get right with Jesus. You’ve all ruined my going to book clubs because you all cave in upon me and I have to carry all the bricks (or maybe books in this case) on my shoulders because of your evil eye because you’re lawless Pharisees and pagans and unbelievers. I don’t even care if you don’t believe the Truth. You would all claim to be civilised but you have no manners or sense of propriety and your knowledge and material existence is a thin patina for your atavism and savagery. And it’s the dregs. It’s the dregs. And there is a way to live that is clean. You’d rather be groom of the stool for some fallen men you idolise rather than Kings under the King of Kings who is the Lord Jesus re: whom and without whom none of these books would have been written. And who is one way or another the ghost author behind all that has been written. He is the Alpha and the Omega. I can’t go to a book club because you’re all barking mad.

I've seen other Booktube channels do "____ months" devoted to a particular topic. Examples: War month (books about war), history month, western month, etc. Typically the host (you, in this case) gives the audience some suggestions and guidelines, then the audience chooses which books they want to read. The hosts' suggestions are (for instance) a short list of books to consider. Some of these are ones the host plans to read, but others are just other good candidates in the genre. Everyone is free to pick what they like. As for the guidelines, sometimes they are tightly structured (e.g., first week you read this author/subgenre, second week that type author/subgenre, etc.), but usually it's fairly open (e.g., read something from Author A, then whatever else you want). While the month is underway, the host is making videos about his reading, and the audience is chiming in with theirs. Then at the end, there is usually a wrap-up video. Sometimes the host will have a live session, but the live sessions I've seen have always been larger events with multiple hosts involved.

Haven't watched video yet, but Will Durant outlived Ariel, not the other way around. I don't recall when the last volume was published, but I'd guess the 1970's, a good decade before they passed in the 1980's. They did roughly envision two more volumes to bring the story up to the present day: the Age of Darwin and the Age of Einstein. Neither, alas, was finished.

Who said that we read so we can live through others and learn more than we could living a single life alone without reading.... One famous quote that captures this idea is by **C.S. Lewis**: *"We read to know we are not alone."* Lewis believed that through reading, especially literature and biographies, we gain insight into the thoughts, lives, and experiences of others, which allows us to learn and grow vicariously. Another related quote is from **George R.R. Martin**: *"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one."* Martin highlights how reading enables us to experience countless lives, perspectives, and stories, enriching our own life beyond its singular experience. These quotes underscore the profound impact of reading on our ability to understand the world and the lives of others, extending our own life's reach through the vicarious experiences offered by books.

I wouldn't say, I study history not since college but try and build upon existing information or find pasterns. For example, I just finished 'Dark' not long ago. But I don't think, I thought so critically due to a TV show for a long time. Like, "One set of decisions not being made is the consequences of other decisions. And "We think, we have freedom or due we just repeat the samepattern over and over." I know this isn't history 100% but it does evoke some questions.

Right now, I have been trying to finish 'Meditations' by Marcus Aurelius. However, I haven't been that active with reading this summer due to a health issue, loss of family members, and personal self-reflection. But I am still hopping to finish the book before summer ends I hope.

I haven't read much history lately but I should finish 'Gulag' by Anne Applebaum at some point. The book is about the life in the Soviet Union.

I'd like to read more history, but Will Durant's series looks a bit too daunting for me. It does look interesting, but I just can't devote that much time to it. I'm a smart guy but a slow reader, so it would take me years to get through something like that. I don't think I need all the details Durant provides. Thanks for the video. It inspires me to check out the series and to shop around for something more digestible.

'When the logic of violence changes, society changes'. This quote was a massive eye-opener for me. Love the way they outline the contexts. Lord William Rees-Mogg was an incredibly clever guy
