  • Is there more to healthy and sustainable weight loss than willpower and counting calories?
Dr Aileen Alexander shines a light on how most traditional approaches to weight loss are restrictive, unsuccessful, and can adversely affect our health. She discusses how we often blame ourselves and our lack of willpower when often the diet was not always fit for purpose. Instead, she highlights how prioritising our wellbeing and treating the root cause of weight gain is paramount to healthy and sustainable weight loss. A former NHS General Practitioner, Dr Aileen now works with women to help them identify and treat the root cause of their weight gain, fatigue, and stress concerns so they can live a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

A brilliant, succinct talk - thank you, Dr Aileen. Everything you have said here is spot-on, especially about putting health first and reducing stress. I've come to this mindset a little late in the game - after a serious cardiac event caused by years of high stress levels forced me to re-evaluate my approach to life. I sincerely believe that if people listen to what you have to say, and follow your advice, many serious illnesses could be prevented - and people would balance their weight as a natural side-effect. 😀

@wendylong6678 thank you for your comment. I'm sorry to hear about your cardiac event. I appreciate it must be frustrating feeling you've come to this mindset late in the game, but I'm really pleased to hear how you've seen this as an opportunity to re-evaluate your approach to life. Wishing you every success on your journey to balance, and as you say, the weight will melt off as a natural side effect!

Love the apple example, really got me thinking about all the ways I misunderstand my cravings. Thanks for the insight!

@david_nathan thank you for your feedback. I'm glad it helped you to connect with how you feel and question what's actually driving the cravings, and address the root cause.
