    Thanks so much for this video! I needed this. Can you do a video on the sales part of things? Like how the money flow works from the time someone orders to where you get your profit and factor in taxes, fees, etc.

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  Рік тому +4

      I'll make a video on this real soon for sure! Here's some info though for you for right now
      When you first start on Etsy, they put your account "on reserves" to make sure you are a legit seller for the first 90 days. So they keep a portion of your sales until the item ships. They also will only pay you once per week at this point. After 90 days, they will let you take daily payments instead.
      When you get an order, Etsy takes out the etsy fees and then gives you the difference. Printify then charges YOUR CARD for the cost of the item and shipping, and you get to keep the difference.
      So you either need a credit card, that way you have time to get the payments from Etsy before having to pay the bill, or you need to start with a few hundred dollars. Because there are a few different things to buy to start like a few nice mockups and design software to make the designs.
      Then at the end of the year, you just pay taxes on the profit that you made after all expenses. I would set aside about 30% of your profit per month for taxes!

    Hi Cassiy, I have been watching your videos for several months and love the detail you use in all of them! I have learned so much from you, but I am a little confused about the profit margin when people give discounts on t-shirts. I noticed the majority of sellers add a sale in their listings. Your videos I watched didn't mention what to do if a sale is added on and how we fill out the calculator when that is done? Do we up the profit margin or up the price. My research was on Retro Halloween Nurse Shirts. Thank you!

    Can you do a video about managing your listings? When should we renew them or get rid of it? How many listings per design should I do? How many listings should I have in my shop?

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  Рік тому +1

      I let my items renew 2-3 times without selling before I change them to manual renewal so they will just expire at the end of that 4 months. As for how many listings per design, I normally do 2-3 for sweatshirts, 2-3 for t-shirts and then if it makes sense, a mug and a tote bag.
      As for how many listings in your shop, this is kind of a never ending quest to find as many best sellers as you can. The most I've had in my shop is 4k listings! So I'd say just as many as you can lol You constantly have to be finding new trends, new niches and new design styles to stay up to date on what's selling right now.

On printify it does show the profit margin, but I'm assuming that doesn't include the shipping cost, correct? Which was something you didn't mention. The shipping on some of the products I am looking at is priced at $10 to even $20 depending on the product. Does that mean I need to either add this in the etsy listing and have the customer pay or add it to the price- and do free shipping on the etsy listing? What are your suggestions for this issue?

I have a question though, if I am not living in the USA, but I do have a bank account in the US for the payments, can I still start with this business (the print on demand with Etsy) ? or are there some restrictions ahead in the process?

    Thanks for your videos! They’ve been so helpful. One think I haven’t been able to sort out is accounting for sales tax since the Etsy fees also include that? Do you consider that when pricing?

    • @pat4005
      @pat4005 7 місяців тому

      Sales tax is separate. And since Etsy collects the money for the product and sales tax for the Etsy Seller, they also pay the tax to the state for the Seller.
      They then take out their fees and give the Seller the remainder.

    Hi Cassie! Thanks so much for the amazing video. I was just wondering how shipping costs on individual etsy items works? For example, if you set the shipping cost as $8, does Etsy provide you with this money on top of the item's cost (minus etsy fees), and therefore the total profit increases by $8? Thanks so much!

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  Рік тому +1

      Yes you get the full cost of the item plus shipping that the customer paid minus Etsy fees, so wether you include the shipping price within your item or charge for it separate, it is all the same!

    Do you change the pricing based on the color of the sweatshirt? Also, since you are including shipping cost in your production cost, are you then offering free shipping for your customers?
    I've been putting mine cheaper for white since it's the cheapest in production costs, and then every other color the price is the same per size. I hope this makes sense lol. Just trying to figure out if it would be better to list per color instead. I've been listing my shirts and sweatshirts the same price for S-XL and adding a dollar or so for my 2XL-5XL options.
    Thank you for all of the information on your channel! I've been going down the rabbit hole and I've learned so much, even though I definitely thought I knew what I was doing lmao!

    I love your videos! ❤ Thank you for sharing all your amazing tips and helpful advice! You've really helped me a lot so far, but I'm still having difficulty with pricing some of my items. I'm in Canada, so please bear with me as I try to explain my dilemma. As an example, I'll use the Gilden sweatshirt. They are currently approx. $16 US each. Convert that to Canada and they are $20. Add to that the tax (I'm purchasing from a Canadian provider - Duplium so they charge 13%), and that comes to $22.60. Add to that their shipping charge $13.06 (again, convertered to Canadian - as all of Printify's currency, no matter where the location of the printer is in US $. Add to that Canadian government sales tax 13% = $40.22. Add to that Etsy's fees = (6.5% + 3.5%) = $46.33. Plus - we can't forget my markup - - I'd LIKE to make $25 per shirt, but that would put my sweatshirt at approximately $71.00. Oh, and I still need to add another 13% to the customer to pay for my own taxes. So that sweatshirt is now $80. Of course, I could lower my profit to a measley $10.00 and sell my shirt for $65. But the price for the Gilden sweatshirt is still awfully high. So, I just don't understand how so many shops out there are able to sell their sweatshirts for so little. Maybe they didn't factor in all the hidden costs and are essentially "losing their shirt" over it!! LOL! (I couldn't resist)! But...do you see where I'm coming from?? It's a big struggle to come up with a price, and as much as I would like to think that my designs are worth me asking for $25 profit for me, I don't know...who in their right mind would pay $80 for a sweatshirt?? Do you have any advice - am I missing something here? 🤔

      Hey Charlene, I’m in a similar boat to you except I’m in Australia and using Duplium coz Aussie printers don’t rate so well. From my calculations I have to price coffee mugs at $40 or cad$36.00. The average price here in Oz is up to $28. Somethings gotta be wrong somewhere.

      @@ForTheGreys Yep, you can. Not sure where you're selling from (Etsy)? But ya, as a Canadian, you can use the American Printers. But it's not going to be profitable if you're selling to Canadians. Because a Canadian would then have to pay the difference of the dollar (exchange rate), plus the shipping/duty. But if you're a Canadian Seller, and you want to target American buyers, by all means, use the American Printers.

Price pretty much stays the same. Has anybody figured out a way around this? I've tried 2 different print on demand services, one being [podpartners] and the other - standard [printify]. Do you have a video that explains how to set this up for POD? I just opened a small jewelry shop on Etsy but and in the process of setting up a POD shop as well. I understand how to set up shipping profiles for my jewelry shop because I am the one shipping the items, but when it comes to POD I am completely confused. I'm not understanding how to info gets from Etsy to Printify, to the print provider, and what the sellers role is in all of that. Any tips are appreciated as always!!

      All depends on your cost, I'd make a sample order for the amount you need from the print provider you are using in the colors they want. See what it costs including shipping. Then decide how much of a discount you would want to give to still make a good profit!

If I wanted to do A B testing for a listing WITH shipping, would I need to go back to my products and create a new shipping profile through printify, then select that shipping profile for all the items I want to test? If not, what’s a good way to add shipping to a half of my listings so I can do A B testing to see whether free shipping or with shipping does better for my niche?
