This sounds to me like you began the relationship with the financial power and that’s how it was for the first few years. However now she’s earning more than you she has realised her personal value and is now demanding more from you and a higher lifestyle that she feels she deserves with her status. I don’t know either of you clearly but this seems to only be going one way to me, I’d say she now sees you as childcare and not a husband who provides enough. ALL women everywhere expect the man to make a certain amount of money. They all want kids, a house, and a certain standard of living. And her expectations will usually increase over time. At some point, she may decide she no longer needs the husband, just the money, and files for divorce.
Mine left after 4 years, I refused to give her family any money. Note, she was living and working in the UK with me, so she gave plenty of money to her family. She went back to Thailand and I went back there to divorce her, had a fantastic time after that 🙂

It's not a fact and you're wrong. I've been in a relationship with my thai gf for 3 years. She lives in bangkok and is an account sales at an IT recruitment company. She makes about 50-60k. I'm not giving her a monthly sum except when i'm staying with her i will chip in for the payment on her condo, which is very little. She's never asked for that and initially even refused it. When we go out she will often suggest paying for things. We are the same age and have the same values. She will talk about her friends but never apply their situation to our relationship. I've dated many thai women before her and there are huge differences between them. It's all about vetting the person you're with.

I have lived in Thailand for 20 years, I agree 100% with what you said. 1k usd per month is not enough to live comfortably in Thailand, not once you factor in decent health insurance, visa costs, unforseen expenses etc. Thai women are expensive, even if they themselves are low maintenance, their families wont be. Always exceptions to the rule, just talking in broad terms.

Yep you absolutely right . I get mad and angry when I see blogs of some UA-camrs who keep saying “hey you can live like a king with 1500$ a month” and people are just like that lies”. I came to Thailand twice and I can tell it’s not that cheap I spend almost 3000$ in 10 nights and can’t afford even 5 stars hotels or luxury shopping. Yes it’s great place to enjoy but not that cheap. Example - good German or Japanese restaurant cost you up to 50$ for a meal and couple of drinks !

My experience from UK is things are more equal and structured .i.e, job opportunities to climb up the ladder, education choices, social security, child support, fair and quick justice system if divorce, and generally partners share costs/expenses/housework,etc
Thanks good insight into reality. In Pattaya I noticed the numbers of elderly farang men living alone drinking alone. The successful model then seems to be a solitary existence and ignore living like a kid in a candy store .With An occasional no strings attached liaison.

I have lived in Thailand for 20 years, I agree 100% with what you said. 1k usd per month is not enough to live comfortably in Thailand, not once you factor in decent health insurance, visa costs, unforseen expenses etc. Thai women are expensive, even if they themselves are low maintenance, their families wont be. Always exceptions to the rule, just talking in broad terms.

I hate when they come out with I eat today what about tomorrow , That's the only thing I could not get my head around thai culture was the gratitude. What ever you do for them today is totally forgotten about tomorrow. Does not matter what it is a car or a house , that why some blokes lose it because they think I have done all this for my thai girl and she has absolutely no gratitude. Only way to test a Thai women is to tell them you have run out of money or lost your job and see if she still sticks around.
Yep you absolutely right . I get mad and angry when I see blogs of some UA-camrs who keep saying “hey you can live like a king with 1500$ a month” and people are just like that lies”. I came to Thailand twice and I can tell it’s not that cheap I spend almost 3000$ in 10 nights and can’t afford even 5 stars hotels or luxury shopping. Yes it’s great place to enjoy but not that cheap.
Example - good German or Japanese restaurant cost you up to 50$ for a meal and couple of drinks !

The problem in my opinion is that there are also many Thai women who are part of the middle class, good job, good salary, etc.
But they come from families that were quite poor.
These women, they studied and made a career but their mentality remained that of their family...

You need money to survive and thrive anywhere in the world (Thailand is no exception). My experience from UK is things are more equal and structured .i.e, job opportunities to climb up the ladder, education choices, social security, child support, fair and quick justice system if divorce, and generally partners share costs/expenses/housework,etc
Thanks good insight into reality. In Pattaya I noticed the numbers of elderly farang men living alone drinking alone. The successful model then seems to be a solitary existence and ignore living like a kid in a candy store .With An occasional no strings attached liaison.

There is substance in your statement that “sufficient income” needs to supplied by both sides of the relationship or the “kerfuffle” will begin. I’m convinced that $1000. US dollars won’t cut it for long.

There is always a pecking order. Youn or handsome e guys can get girls and don't have to pay, but I agree for the most part, especially if you are 45+ you need to have some money.
It's easy to live on $1000 a month. Provided you're single and not go out drinking every night.
I understand giving a salary when she has a baby and is off work, but why should you be expected to give her salary when she is back at work? I assume you already pay for the rent/house, food, car, petrol, and any maintenance. I'm genuinely curious to understand, if you can help. Cheers

First off, what type of job could a Thai woman possibly have where she’s making three times more than you per month? Is she a doctor?
My second question is, is the extreme money expectations from Thai women only directed at foreign men, or do they expect Thai men to be the main financial providers as well? Do Thai women have some sort of exaggerated financial expectation of foreign men simply because we’re Western?
My last question is, what would be the amount of money she would want per month to keep her off your back? I of course know it’s all relative, but generally speaking, what is that magic monthly number that keeps most Thai women at least somewhat satisfied?

Yes, I’m planning on relocating to south east Asia permanently within six months to a year, the moment my retirement goes through. I should have about $7000 a month to work with, so hopefully that will be enough.

As far as being accepted into Thai culture, maybe someday I’ll crave that but right now I could care less. As long as they are respectful and don’t harass me or try to harm me and treat me for the most part, I’m fine with that. In fact, I don’t want to be thought of as just another regular Thai guy. I rather like being known as the American foreigner. I’m extremely proud of being American, as most Americans are, lol, and if I dare say it, consider myself a bit superior, so I have no desire to “fit in”, other than to be respectful and polite to the culture that is allowed me into their nation.
