Here's a short explanation: The circuit he has explained has a 10v (low voltage protection) as the zenor diode IN470A breakdown voltage is 10v. And the same goes for the over voltage protection which is done in the similar way. The overvoltage is controlled by the second zenor diode and resistors such that 10v is obtained at overvoltage. The gate terminal is not connected at the solar negative. Only the drain and source are used to avoid reverse current from the battery to solar pannel. To design it for a 'x' voltage battery you should have a solar panel which can produce that voltage and then design the circuit. Hope this clears your doubts.

You can make under and over voltage protection with op-amps, operational amplifier chips wired as a comparator with a preset control to adjust the operational threshold, and high power mosfets are better for the series pass element as they have positive thermal characteristics.

hi! aatik. that was so interesting.....it lead me to build one for my own. let say i have mini size solar panel 3w. do u think i can use this circuit to recharge lithium ion 10 000mah power bank? wanted to build a portable solar charging.
Aatik's lab how big solar panel should i have? Do u have any reference note regarding calculation to determine the size of solar panel and time taken to charge on the lithium ion battery? Im thinking to double up the size of pannel connect in parallel so that i can get high ampere.
remember that the charging current should be 10% of the Ah rating of battery so if you use 3w pannel that would generate about 0.25A which would take around 40 hours to charge the 10A bank so to decrease the charging time you have to increase the AH to about 1 A to get a charging time of about 10hours for this you will need pannels of 12w
Biswajit Patra if you are using a inverter Or a ups you have to use a circuit called dark sensor what it does it senses the sunlight and either supply electricity or cut it according to brightness of sun
And for the charging of battery you will need a solar panel whose capacity would depend upon the size of battery and total load and of course you will also need a charge controller

In my case, I'm doing it in Proteus software and it didn't work earlier. After inverse the connection of 10v zenner, then it work perfectly. Hahaha I don't know what happening, maybe someone that facing this problem maybe can try it. Plus I put another 12v solar series with switch, so that we can see 15 v zenner working.

yes it will work but 3w pannel would take an eternity to charge 10 000mah battery bank

Why Vcc points are there in circuite
Vcc is straight possitive voltage from solar panel
In my case, I'm doing it in Proteus software and it didn't work earlier. After inverse the connection of 10v zenner, then it work perfectly.
