So true and the reason I bought the ET 8550, I get great print results and the ink keeps on lasting.
How would you compare the quality of prints from 8550 and Pro-100? Can one see any dots on the 8550's prints?
The prints from my Pro-100 are just phenomenal in my point of view. Recently I aquired an original Hahnemujle swatch book. There are a lot of images printed on expensive printers on various Hahnemuhle papers. I couldn't believe my eyes when I found out how much inferior these prints are in comparison to my prints from Pro-100! They are dull and "grainy" and lack saturated colours and fine details. The deep blacks are also usually too deep without any details in them.
8550 rocks if I was going archival or pro. I might pick a different printer but I also think You're not a photographer if you don't print your work and I am thankful for your channel. Cuz I think it's the third leg of the tripod in being a photographer. Learn your camera and lenses and how to use them is one number. Two is learning how to process those images and number three is printing them for the desired result. I thank you for sharing your knowledge. It's helped me tremendously 👍🏼
I checked a few days ago and InkOwl has an ink set for the ET-8550 that they claim is comparable and OK to mix with the OEM inks. Complete set for 36.95 and 6.95 for individual bottles.
Epson 8550 inks are super CHEAP to print with. I love it! Why anyone wants third party inks, I have no idea. As you’ve pointed out, you’ll never match your monitor.

Mine arrived today and i've already boxed it up ready to go back to Amazon. From the first print it constantly marks the photo paper, card etc. Others who have had the issue have had nothing but issues with the marks and they do not go away. Seems to be luck if it works or not.

The ET 8550 is $200 off these days. I bought one yesterday!
It's awesome. I got it for that price too. The android app was super easy to set it up, even alignments. A good half hour spent well.
The biggest price for printing should be paper. Only because of greed and the scams of cartridges that it's ink.
I use the 8500,and the print quality is superb 👍
