Hands down best video on you tube for understanding the effects on blonde brassy hair using Shades EQ by Redken. Very informative and I love your idea of putting them on on one mannequin head to compare colors. I have been trying to get away from the orange/yellow brassy tones in my hair and was thinking of using Wella T18 but I already have several of these shades you mentioned in the video. Currently I'm combating rust orange roots so I'm going to bleach with the Redken Flash with bonder bleach on roots and then go in with toner Shades EQ 9P with 9T. Will this give me a soft silvery ashy blonde look? Don't want to be platinum but a soft bright ashy blonde so would I need to use the crystal clear in the toner and if so how much? I used Redken Color gel lacquers 10NA with Platinum ice Shades EQ 09V to tone last time with no crystal clear just processing solution and was extremely red/brown/blonde dark not at all what I wanted to achieve. I want to fix this and have a set formula to use every 6 weeks, I just cannot find the correct formula for the color I'm looking for?? Just can't seem to get this blonde shade correct and I don't want to go back to the salon again, want to do this at home and have invested in alot of Redken product already. Help?
I think the first place to start is to have the right level of blonde to begin with.. It seems to me like you are not bleaching your hair to level 9/10 before using the toners.. to achieve the soft bright ashy blonde..I have used a combination of 9V,9P, 9T( 1/2oz each ) with Clear (1oz)... sometimes ( would add abit 9GI or even 9gb to that the color does not get too flat..Now i don't like throwing around formulas because each scenario is different and does not work for everybody...but you are on the right part of used the cooler toners to achieve the ashy blonde look...

I’m sorry but why does the hair look straight up brown afterwards? It doesn’t look level 9 at all after the toner.. like whaaat 😨 The 9B looks like straight up BLACK
yes the 9B looks dark... because I left all the toners on there for the max time over 20mins...I also mentioned that the mannequinn head was bleached to as light as I could get...hence if it was lighter the swatches would not look too dark.. in real life salon scenario i will be using clear to dilute the formula or use the level 10 toners if the hair was bleached lighter...
I’ve watched sooo many videos trying to decide what color is best to combat the brass I’ve had for years. Many hair stylists have tried and you have hands down given the best explanation of any and any video I’ve watched👏👏😊. Can you do a video on how to get red brass out of a level 5/6 brown? Unless you’re very porous! I use level 9 on myself and it works great but only because my hair is porous and has some damage so it grabs too fast and any other level ends up way to dark...
Thank you for this video! I have a question for you... I'm a natural blonde, probably a 0 and I get highlights (bleach) foiled in with vol 20 + olaplex. My stylist also uses 8N lowlights with foil, 2 highlights to one lowlight. My stylist recently got very ill and cannot work so until I find someone new I'm trying to figure out how to tone my pineapple-looking hair! I naturally pull yellow/banana/goldish but not quite copper. Ideally I want bright, white highlights, dimension with my lowlights and overall a cool, but bright ashy color. I tried equal parts 09V and 09T with 1/2 oz clear but it ended up being a flat shade of slivery-gray, with almost a green hint in the areas that were the lightest. Overall my hair appears darker with little to no dimension as my highlights kinda disappeared. Should I add in 9N or 9NB or scrap 09T and instead use 09S? I also like the look of creamy, champagne beige blonde instead of super icy white but have not tried it yet. What would you suggest for that? 09V and 9NB? I have the following colors and I can get more if needed: 09V, 09T, 10N, 9P, 9NB, 9N, 9S and clear. I would love any recommendations you or another stylist would have for me. Thank you!
whats 9S ? I dont think shades eq makes 9S.... the 9NB/9V combination should give you what you want without it being so flat..Also you can alil of 9gb(not too much) to your original formulas 9v/9T/clear to give the champagne beige.. Hopefully you can go back to your stylist soon have to mess with your hair too much at home. thanks for watching...
@@hana2o Great explanation. I am wanting a bright icy white. I don't want it warm but also do NOT want that silver grey darkish look either so have also been looking for that perfect toner formula/combo! I've heard of stylists also recommending a dash of gold to violet to keep it from being to ashy & brightens it up supposedly. I haven't done my hair because I am waiting for that perfect combo lol. I will def be doing a strand test first though!
Hello! My natural hair is dark brown. I recently dyed it and now I have a medium orange shade in it which I hate. Could you tell me how I can go light ash brown to dark ash blonde? Thank you!
try using shimmering lights shampoo, you can get it on Amazon right now. (not sure if you are in quarantine) i recommend using it the first time for about 5-10 min. and once you get that "brassy orange" out use it every other shampoo. but you got to think about kindergarten and coloring.. in order to go from black to lighter.. the first 5 colors are RED, then whats lighter than red? orange, then orange-yellow, yellow, and pale yellow. Toner doesn't actually lighten hair, it just cuts the undertone of the hair, its neutralizing that tone you don't want. (color wheel) So if the purple shampoo doesn't help you will have to get get it lighter. hope that helps xoxo @karenesnow
@@themotherspassport4458 Hello! Thank you for the advice! The thing is that I'm using a blue shampoo already and nothing has happened. I'm thinking to dye my hair again with a toner or a 8.1 dye and a 20 volume developer. What do you think about that? :)
20vol is too high of a developer to use with a toner.. Use a 6 or 9 vol developer which will not shift the base of your hair... sometimes the blue shampoos will not make an impact and a toner is your best bet..a level 7 or 8 natural ash toner work for you depending on the current level of your hair.
@@UrManeAveTv thank you! I dyed it again with a demi permanent dye of light ash brown shade because i had an orange colour not very nice..and now it's a nice colour but still dark.. I don't know how I will have a light shade and not orange or yellow.. it seems impossible..

I was about to do it now when I stumbled across this video so I figured I'd shoot a comment for the heck of it and see what you thought?! Thank you so much for this video!
Yes, you have to use Shades EQ Processing Solution OR Gloss to Gel Developer. Their toner won't work with any other brand. At least that's what I've been told. You can always do a strand test....
@@UrManeAveTv Hi! I hve the same thing, my hair has just gone a little yellow so im looking to tone it. My hairdresser used 09p, but ive noticed my hair is more porous in some places because it becomes lighter than others when i use purple shampoo. Can i still use this toner on my hair? or will it be uneven?
Well, how do u get it to the 10? If I have level 10 and want an ashy natural blonde level 10 if I use these it looks brown. So is this when u use the gloss or clear? And if u do that will it be 10?
Shades eq has level 10 toners that you an purchase if you hair is bleached that light and yes if you have only level 9 you will use clear to dilute the color so that it doesn't go dark on you..
I user 9v on my level 10 bleached hair and it’s soooo dark and it’s purple , but not in the bit of purple purple way it’s like mud . My bf who never noticed anything , is shocked and visibly shaken . Any thoughts or help ? Eeeeeeek

I dont have a favorite per say but I use what works for the situation at hand...I do use 7p in most of my formulas to help cut down on the brass...
@@hana2o what developer to yall use.

Hi Have any Luck?
(color wheel)
So if the purple shampoo doesn't help you will have to get get it lighter. hope that helps

Hi there! Do you recommend to mix 9P with 9N - to be like a cool neutral blonde? Thanks :)
yes that a good combo..but add 9v to cancel violet tones
Thank you for your amazing content and your lovely personality, keep up the great work! Redken came out with new level 9 EQ shades and a brand new collection of level 10, it would be amazing if you could do a similar experiment with those shades. Thank you!!!
I'll check it out! I am thinking about doing the level 10 shades soon... thanks for watching
@@UrManeAveTv Yes Please 😃
I just bought 8n for my root tap and 9p for the rest...my hair is white and I am a little hesitant in case its going to be very dark ashy....but hey im going for it. 😁
let me know how it goes...
@@UrManeAveTv Hi, it came out exactly as I hoped!! Its really lovely....my only problem was i put it on dry hair znd I have very thick hair , so it was a real pain . Next time I donit im gonna put it on damp hair definitely. The tone is perfect though I really like it.. 👌
Hi I have a 7-8 base color with redken color, 75% gray and it covers nicely but I am seeing a lot of orange everywhere else and my highlights are gone, don;t know why, I will highlight again some pieces but what toner you advise since I need something blue/violet to cancel and leave it nicely toned? tks
it depends on the tone of your hair and what you want your final results to be.. 7p, 7NA and 7v...???
@@UrManeAveTv I would like it to be an 8NA
this was SO HELPFUL!!
thanks
Hi, would you know if you can add the kicker colours to any shades eq dye, to eliminate brassy tones?
Are your kickers from from the shades eq line? I wouldnt mix shades eq with another brand..
thank you, I have watched many video, this is the best explain
Glad it was helpful!
Love your videos, can we get a Level 8 Toner Experiment? 😍🥰
Of course!!
You’re so amazing I’ve learned so much from you THANK YOU SO MUCH
♥️♥️♥️
Thanks for watching..I really appreciate it!!!
Thank you so much 💓for this great video with very clear explanation 🙏🙌💕
Glad it was helpful!
Love your video! Can watch it over and over again!
Wow, thanks!
The 9’s are toners. They are applied at the bowl for 5 minutes on damp hair. Not dry hair and 20 mins.
That not true
Read the redken manual for instructions
This was so helpful!! So I have already bleached my hair and all my toners and developer came in. I ordered 09N, 09V, and 09GB... Based on your video, I feel confident mixing the 09N and 09V but I am wondering what you think about me adding the 09GB to the mix as well? I was about to do it now when I stumbled across this video so I figured I'd shoot a comment for the heck of it and see what you thought?! Thank you so much for this video!
you have prob done it.. why did you want to add gb? what effect are u looking t get?
amazing video, your explanations are super detailed and awesome visual support with the mannequin ! 👏🏻❤️
Thanks for watching..I really appreciate it!!!
Thank you so much for the valuable information Sister.
Thanks sis for always tuning in. Happy New year!
Suggestion not sure if it’s worth it for u! But a vid of your fave Redken formulas!! :)
Great suggestion! I will put something together..!
Do you HAVE to use that redken developer when useing the eq toners? I have the toners but i only have regular sallys brand developer....ion brand
Yes, you have to use Shades EQ Processing Solution OR Gloss to Gel Developer. Their toner won't work with any other brand. At least that's what I've been told. You can always do a strand test....
@@graceramirez4203 thank you!!
yes use redken processing solution
The video i NEEDED thank you!
thanks alot for watching.
So if I’m trying to go platinum on my lvl 9 hair what formula in these toners do u recommend
hmmn not sure how your bleached looks like but if you have a clean even canvas, I will do do 9v,9p, and Clear
Loved the breakdown of the colours
Is there anywhere I can find out what actually makes each colour as that would help me formulate more easy. Many thank xx
i am sure you can find lots of info on the redken site...
@@UrManeAveTv ❤️
appreciate your Demo! learned so much
Awesome, thank you!
I used 9n with a splosh of 9v on bleach blonde and its gone greeny grey on the lengths. I wanted a more natural tone. Please advise.
you can do a gleach wash to remove the greenish tonation
@@UrManeAveTv thanks, it's lost the green tone now I've washed it a few times as normal
Love this video and explanation with visuals! Can you please do more of these with shades eq 1-10? :)
Thanks for watching...I plan on it.
I user 9v on my level 10 bleached hair and it’s soooo dark and it’s purple , but not in the bit of purple purple way it’s like mud . My bf who never noticed anything , is shocked and visibly shaken . Any thoughts or help ? Eeeeeeek
mix it with the clear
Yes you need to tone with right level.. so yes mix 9v with clear or use level 10 toners...Thanks for watching..I really appreciate it!!!
This was such a wonderful video, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for your video, I learned a lot!
