This thing where telepaths suddenly unlock latent telekinesis (charles, kid omega, cuckoos, betsy) better work both ways, now that Hellions back w/ hands he needs a power-up.

Tbh that shit is so dumb. Let telepaths be telepaths and let telekinetics be telekinetics. Emma Frost and the cuckoos with telekinesis just doesn’t feel right at all 😭
@@thomas1810 honestly, I don't even mind that much, but its inconsistent when and why it happens, Charles randomly has tk at krakoa's start, cuckoos randomly got tk here, pretty sure marvel is streamlining they're psychics so they're not either or anymore, i blame the mcu.
They don't have telekinesis, it was a one time thing. Don't know where it comes from tho, it's weird. X, Emma and Cuckoos don't and shouldn't have tk.

I was pretty excited for this book, and man I was not disappointed. I feel like they set up a lot of good stuff. I love the cast, and am super excited to see Anole back in a title book as a main character. Back in the day when I was a kid in high school picking back up with new x men comics with the pocket change I had, and trying to come out of the closet he was the first gay character I had in media. Being from a small town too really helped me relate to him and have been let down with alot of the stuff they've thrown him into. I mean they killed his best friend in X of Swords and he never even mentioned it. Hoping he and Laura get some time on page together soon as they were in the same class (and hell) for goodness sakes and it seemed like they left him a goofy teen while Laura and the rest like Pixie went on and grew up. Anyways looking forward to see where this goes and can't wait to hear what you have to say about it!

So basically NYX is basically the students from Grant Morrisons era onwards (2000s early 10's) finally graduating and forming their own team? I've wanted to see that for ages, I was litterally about to pitch my own idea for an addition to the From The Ashes era where those guys get kidnapped by Mojo the form a team guided (guided not lead) by Dazzler and Longshot I was going to pitch that to Marvel as a first run for the new team or shall I say the reformed Generation X
My thought exactly. These are the “newer” Xmen characters who were around when I started reading X-men comics again in the mid 20’s.

It’s cus in a past comic Emma Frost was revealed to have latent telekinesis. So they took that and just had the cuckoos gain telekinesis. But honestly I think it’s dumb. Let telepaths be telepaths😭

Love that you explained how writing worked. This is so obvious to me. I love a conversation about this, but being angry after one issue seems silly and a little ignorant unless the writer has a history of failing with these topics. It is a difficult thing to take on, but I think they are doing a fine job so far.
Curious when Sophie unlocked her telekinetic abilities. I remember not that long ago one of the Cuckoos telling Jean that they wish they had telekinetic abilities like her.
I'll admit it: When I first learned of this book, I was skeptical. However, I'm delighted to announce I was pleasantly surprised! I thoroughly enjoyed it and I fully intend to retain it in my list of requests! 🙂
This is the only book that doesn't feel like a greatest hit book so far. I'm excited to see where it goes.
I thought this was a great NYX re-boot #1. Definitely my favorite of the reboots so far, but were just 1 issue in. Lauras new suit is Fire!

I know very little about any of these characters, but I thought I would give it a whirl and I really enjoyed this! I was surprised but I liked the characterization and dialog.

17:50, if you couldn’t tell, Empath created psionic devil horns on some of the people he mind-controlled, including the Stepford Cuckoos, hence that he was a former “Hell-ion”, so he made a literal hell that may be lesser than or equal to Sabretooth’s control of the Pit in Krakoa. Funny enough, Deadpool & Wolverine’s original title was going to be Deadpool & Friend, confirmed by Ryan Reynolds on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
I really do wonder what this means for the cuckoos, because the last time I checked they were on good terms with all the sisters and emma. Not sure how I feel about them turning coat on Sophie and possibly emma later on.
I’m just straight up against it. But what the F are you gonna do? Comics will bring people together, tear them apart, kill them, resurrect them, retcon all their problems, turn them evil, make them have children, kill the children, drive them crazy, NO MORE MUTANTS, and then forget about them for 5 years. It’s comics.
Frankly, I could see this as Phoebe and Empath doing things.
Especially since Sophie was bringing up the Riot.
If you look at the image, you'll see Empath's "aura" over all of them except one, I assume Esme or maybe Phoebe. So, I imagine the others are at least being influenced.

It's kind of funny that for a book called NYX, not one of the mains are native to New York. But maybe the book notes that?
Ernie, I swear if you don't stop trying to tell us how writing works......😂😂😂 ANYWAY, not feeling this book. It's OK but I'd rather see what the average non-X-Men mutants are doing. You would think that Emma's kids and these other mutants would be trying to get a new mutant homeland instead of stereotypical villian shenanigans....I think Empath is manipulating them. Also, Krakoa Forever. I will die on that hill.

I prefer to call myself a fair weather X-men fan.. I only show support for stuff that interesting.. Someone is going to complain about how new stuff is bad, but I already moved back to venom and hulk comic or whatever else is building a good story. Stop feeding the trolls.

Love to see Empath back he was such a great fun read during the Hellions series &as soon as I saw that only one Cuckoo was gonna be in NYX it was clear to me that the other Cuckoos were gonna be villains. They're never separated for long &I would say that it might be Sophie whose playing the long game; to gain the trust of Kamala &other mutants in NY and that she's riding with Empath &her sisters. They are their mother's daughters &that slut is evil so the Cuckoos being bad is par for the course but this book seems very blah/forgettable but X-23 and Empath could steal the show &take the book up another level
That "slut" has saved mutant kind on MANY occasions so a petty nobody calling her out her name is mediocre, AT BEST.

Honestly, as a guy who started reading the comics with the Grant Morrison and Academy X run, I was REALLY intrigued with this one… not X force because of a certain character. If you know who I mean, you know
Those truth seekers are an interesting little minor villain group that I like. Not for what they stand for but a good answer to how people would use social media.
What intrigued me the most though was that Sophie was away from her sister. Specifically because she was the one who was the first to die and the most heroic one. Quentin was stalking her and stopping his riot killed her. One time, the Phoenix returned, Quentin exhumed Sophie’s corpse and begged the Phoenix to resurrect her. They did and she just looked at Quentin and literally peaced out of life. It was hilarious.
I would love this book to be the one where we look at how messed up it would be to be in her shoes considering the cuckoos share a hive mind.
Empath and Hellion with the other sisters? That’s a pretty impressive bunch. The sheer spite and psychic ability of those guys, directed by Empath? That’s a nasty cocktail.
I do feel sorry for Kamala after her brother’s remark but it makes me want one character in here. One character who may make her debut into the world of 97 and be a good confidante for everyone.

I’m glad you’re hyped. It does seem like the start of a good X-book, though I’m worried it might drop some of these plot hooks😊 after a while, cause it seems to be hinting at a LOT.
As for Sophie, less hype. I love, or maybe loved, the Cuckoos in the past, but over the years I’ve seen writer after writer change their dynamic over and over again to tell whatever story they wanted to tell at the time and it’s really bothered me. Before Krakoa there were just the 3 for a while, and each of them tried to be different, even changing their hair color. Then during Krakoa all 5 were identical again, acting as a hive mind or something, and I just wondered how they got over Esme and all that stuff. Now this is happening, whatever this is, and I just have to put up with it. It’s such a
Now as for Laura, I happen to have read the original NYX, and have the both volumes of it on my shelf as we speak, so there’s only one thing I really want from this comic: a reunion between Laura and Kiden Nixon, the original NYX protagonist. If they do that at some point (and don’t screw it up) I will be all over this book.

But I do agree; the Cuckoos are a little messy. Especially that time in the 2010’s where Celeste, Irma and Phoebe kidnapped Gabby to be a host for Esme and Sophie’s ghost was beyond annoyed.

Regarding the cuckoos, Sophie was the first to die and said to be the most heroic, then Esme died after betraying the xmen and working with fake magneto, also clearly the most villainous. Then it was just the other 3 for awhile, I’m pretty sure we’re seeing new xmen 2.0, looks like Esme is the one with the drink and phoebe, Irma and Celeste are the only ones with the pink mind manipulation around their heads.

Empath is definitely controlling them, but he must have had a power boost because there is no way that he is stronger than the cuckoos combined. Guess theyre making him like the Purple Man. Hellions' villain arc was teased a little in New Mutants. Im interested to find out more.

They didn’t, Mars is for Arakko Mutants. Most normal Mutants don’t want to live there with them because they’re too intense.

The Cerebro episide on this book ALMOST got me to buy this in floppies after my vow to not do that with this new era. Im an Academy X head. However, as much as I ride with literally all of the student characters, I find this cast uninspired. The powers are not that exciting as a group. The writers read Anole as a guy who just wants to be normal, and not a super hero. Since when? This book looks to be fulfilling one of biggest fears with the post Krakoa era which is characters reverting to type. Also, I welcome Kamala Khan to the mutant family but im not as receptive to her being the focus. I dont know. Maybe ill try the first issue.
