Always a joy to see your contributions. I have an aluminum van, specifically a 1964 Lynn Airvan with a Dodge chassis, 225 slant six and three on the tree that I polish from time to time and this caught my eye. Thanks for taking the time buddy!
I've been super impressed with how they turn out. I'm excited to see how this boats polish lasts as it stays in the water year round, I suspect it'll be far better than just an acid wash which seems to improve the look for about a month or two in what I've seen, seems pointless to me to go through the trouble of washing and doing all that work just to let it go back to how it was. I know my wheels I polished on here have held up great
i guess im randomly asking but does anybody know a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@Cole Julio Thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thanks so much. I am using the Polishing sticks now and was thinking there might be an easier way, but I can see that this is the way to get that "shine" that I am looking for.
I recommend blue magic polish cream It’s the best thing for aluminum guaranteed I’ve been doing polishing for seven years and this stuff maid me a ton of money
Something went wrong this morning with this video apparently. I had uploaded it thursday, got the thumbnail and description done, and scheduled it for 9am friday. I proceeded to go about my day, and my phone said it was public, but on another one of the youtube app pages it said it was still scheduled, and on my PC it just plain said it wasn't scheduled to be public ever. So now it is. Sorry for the delay!
U need a cutting wheel polisher and jewelers rouge It’s kinda a 3 step process of 3 different rouge bars. U could make those look like a Mirror! Best of Luck
You need to watch the pros on youtube polish pontoons and diesel tuck feul tanks. Evans is one of the top. There are others though. Not meaning to criticize but, we all begin somewhere, and then we finally get it right. God bless.
After you polish it wipe it down with sharkhide clear aluminum coating. It will stay. Shiny forever It's a clear coat for Polished aluminum you can spray it or wipe it on with a cheesecloth.
I did as much of the inside of the toons as I could, and I have noticed no side effects on the grass from the wash or the polish chemicals, the carpet on the bunks tends to get ruined when pressure washing, especially as it ages and gets kinda brittle for lack of better terms, but if you're careful it's not bad at all
You could, I've usually just done the visible portions as that was what my customers have wanted, it would be quite a chore to get underneath to polish them too
The reason the second product/system works better it is intended to use all 3 stages required to clean and polish any surface that tends to oxidize over a period of time. It Very important to complete All three stages in order to completely "cut" or remove oxidation,, "clean" off oxidation.. Then "seal" and polish surface. these 3 steps will substantially increase the length of time and number of environmental exposures that expedite surface deterioration/ oxidation regardless of Name Brand being used !! Dont take shortcuts !! Its well worth the effort and protection of your equipment or toys !! Just a final not... My comment is Not intended to take away or reput your good video for the first stage of a complete process. Remember. Cut (wool pad).. Clean and seal (synthetic pad).. Then Polish with micro fiber pad then hand polish..
I will have to try those steps, the 2nd product I used was the zephyr wheels and jewellers rouge, and it seemed to give a lot nicer result, but it is a multiple step process. There's a lot about polishing I don't know, gotta learn somehow though!
The one about halfway up the toons is some water scale buildup. I didn't do it in this video but now if I polish a boat I sand off the scale with a da sander and then polish so there is no line.
You're absolutely correct, I didn't see it listed anywhere at a glance before I made the video but later realized it does. This is why I don't get into cosmetic stuff as much. Rinsing properly (Excessively) is a must.
Maybe, but it is a bit more consistent than acid that might eat unevenly or get pooled up in hard to reach areas. Either way, as long as you keep the algae and scum off somehow thats what matters.
I decided to use the Sharkhide system and it worked well. Spray cleaner, polish and then the preservative coating. Looks like new but more white than yours. Still, it looks good for a 25 year old boat.
@@trythistv the reviews I have read say 2 years in full sun, 3 to 5 out of the sun. It takes about half a can to do the whole boat. If you follow their instructions on how to put it on it looks very nice and really brightens the metal and adds a shine. My problem with other systems was that the pontoons would look good for a short period then quickly oxidize, even with wax.
You're absolutely right. I should have sanded it off knowing what I do now, at the time my customer mainly wanted them cleaned, I asked if I could polish them too for basically the cost of the materials on top of pressure washing and the acid wash. At some point I will likely pull it back out for service of some kind and I'll clean it all up for him with the new knowledge I've gained since I made this video!
You are very welcome. I'm trying to learn more every day and do things the best possible way, so I appreciate the comments, they help me see what I can do better at!
With great difficulty and in my case a very sore back the day after lol. With a tritoon it's incredibly hard, with just 2 toons walking hunched over underneath is reasonably doable, but no fun
With much misery and frustration, or a crane and removing either the inner toon or both outers. Any way you look at it, doing all sides of a tritoon is going to be a ton of work. I generally tell anyone that we do everything that is going to be visible when the boat is cruising down the lake, and beyond that, the price jumps massively.
Absolutely! I'm getting around to making the video about it, but time is not being kind at the moment. Here is it: amzn.to/2MiF3zH Its a little faster in my opinion, but is a very different product to use than the 3m and wool pad.
Lol. I was wanting to chastise you on your choice of metal polish and then I got to the end and heard what you said.. white diamond is what I'm using. But who knows.
Yup, I did the 3m stuff and then learned about the rouge bars and that style of polishing and I'm totally converted. Such better results with less work and potential for mirror quality with similar time working on it
You're absolutely correct. I could've sworn it said somewhere it had some kind of anti corrosion additive but looking at the sds it's just a 5-10% sulfuric acid solution. Well well, that makes rinsing even more important! Thanks for pointing that out!
Thank you! I think I've got enough interesting stuff I do that could entertain people on here, just gotta get better about actually filming all the stuff I'm doing!
The SHARKHYDE 2 STEP product & method is soooo much better hands down! Look it up folks. I appreciate this vid buts its definitely not the best. I have a 22 footer...trust me I know. Enjoy!
I'm going to try the sharkhyde system next time, You should watch the 2nd part where I show the new way I've polished toons, it ends up far better than this method: ua-cam.com/video/VN7by9gs5G0/v-deo.html
Reality check; there is NO aluminum cleaner that has "corrosion inhibitors" Polishing aluminum does not protect it, it removes aluminum and smooths the surface. Polished aluminum will turn to crap just as fast as acid washed aluminum. The black on the polishing pad is removed aluminum. It's the same as polishing anything; you continue using finer compounds to remove the swirl marks which are indeed scratches until the surface is smooth. Proper aluminum cleaning products are hydrofluoric acid based, starbrite products are well known to be heavily diluted and pathetic compared to others, you should also use dish soap as a surfactant while applying such acids and rinse thoroughly.
You're right. There are a multitude of acids I've personally seen used, Sulfuric acid, Muriatic, Phosphoric. The big problem is some people hear acid, and go get a bottle of it, and spray it on without diluting, they don't rinse it properly afterward and it ends up eating holes in crevaces where it can pool up. Commercially available products tend to either come with clearer instructions, or are pre-diluted (yes, sometimes too much) so that it isn't as likely to turn a nice boat into swiss cheese.

What about the other side of the tubes?
sharkhide could be a great protection coat, it works great
I've heard good things about sharkhide and will definitely be trying it the next time I clean something!
Try Aluminum Bright from napa $22. A GALLON. spray on wash off. Excellent
What about your Grass??
Also did you do the inside of the toon? I assume no issue to the carpet bunks and trailer?

That cleaner ALSO has sulfuric acid in it .Read the label!

What about that Line?
Looks bad doesn't it?😅
Question, how do you get the inside of the pontoons?

How much you charge for that boat
