Mr Connelly. Thank you for creating my hero Harry Bosch. I am myself now retired and even though my career centered on municipal finance, (not law enforcement), it is amazing how I could relate to Harry’s fears and life challenges. Your humor and intellectual approach has been enjoyable. In a way Harry helped me in my career in dealing with people interactions and conflict situations in the workplace, and acceptance of becoming a senior but worthy citizen. God bless. Rob Robson. Johannesburg, South Africa.
Thank you for creating such a fascinating character in Harry Bosch. I've been a fan since I stumbled across The Black Echo in Barnes and Noble in the 1990s. It's taken me a while to warm up to Ballard, but I've arrived. I'm 80 years old so I hope Bosch outlives me.
Mr Connelly, as a retired police detective from Canada I want to thank you for Harry Bosch. The police settings, jargon and LAPD internal politics are incredibly similar to that of my experience in a large urban police department. I have read each of your books numerous times because they never get old but I think my favourite pairing is Bosch and Haller working together. I also enjoy the fact that Harry has aged in real time and you haven’t made him eternally young. Thanks again for you outstanding work sir.
I read the book in 2 days! It was excellent! Harry Bosch is one of my favorite characters and I hate to see him aging, but he 's a great mentor to Rene. Keep the books coming Michael!
Love the books, love the TV show, loved the Dark Sacred Night CD, and love this drive through LA. Thank you for showing us where Bosch and Ballard do their business. This is a dream come true for a non-LA visitor or resident. Greatly appreciated!
Connelly is such a good writer portraying law enforcement characters, political characters and the settings of Los Angeles. Very exciting to read each book as they come out. The ride along helps the reader visualize the crusty setting this story emerges from.
I live in LA and know these spots. The genius of Michael Connelly is that he paints such a great picture that our friends from the UK feel like they know the spots too
Oh and one more thing. Titus Welliver was an inspired choice for the TV series!! So few book characters translate well to the screen but in this case whoever cast him as Bosch was on his A game that day! Fantastic work.
Michael is my most favourite author and I love Bosch however I’ve now fell for mickey haller the series is fabulous . Thank you for this Michael it’s so wonderful to see x
Thanks for the tour. I read this book in one day/night. This, I feel, is the absolute best of the Renee Ballard series. Could not put it down. I hate that Lola passed but glad she has Pinto now. I have a rescued "Pinto" myself named Chuy. Michael, this book is the best. Thanks and keep them coming.
the way connelly uses LA and LA locations is really joycean. hear me out, i get it that his stories are different narratively and linearly etc., but the use of specific locations make the world of harry bosch and mickey haller (and now rene ballard) so immersive and palpable. i get that there are other authors who use real locations in the stories, but connelly does it in such a clean and fleshed out way. joyce's use of locations is really such a good comparison. i've literally walked and driven several of the streets and locations in these books BECAUSE of the books, the same way i've walked the streets of dublin to visit some of the locations joyce used in dubliners and ulysses. for me, there's an author who weaves a city into their books like joyce does better than michael connelly. i get that it's high praise. but i don't think you can argue against it.
Great video. Never seen an A/V tour of book locations before-- with the author's commentary, besides! Michael Connelly is not just one of the best if not the best of crime writers, he is one of the best writers. Of any kind. EVER. Can't wait to read The Dark Hours. Ballard and Bosch...wow!
Thanks for the tour .....reading The Dark Hours now, just got to the place where she finds problems with the Acorn street light....have read all of your books and always look forward to the next one.....thanks for the hours of enjoyment.....
Thanks so much, Michael, for sharing the drive with me !! It really brought to life a visual of where Renee worked & drove every day during Dark Hours. I'll go back and read the book again now that I have this background info. I've read every Harry Bosch Book and watched every episode of the Bosch Series. I really look forward to watching each new series. Thanks again ! I'm also a non-LA resident. Now I have a better handle on what the LA geography looks like.
As a U.K. reader I found this tour to be absolutely brilliant just like the books. Having being lucky enough to have met you a couple of times this felt like a personal tour
Oh, I love Michael Connelly books (bought and read all of them) and especially Bosh series. I’m really getting fond of Ballard. I just got The Dark Hours and am going to start reading this evening! What a lovely special virtual tour! It’s so fantastic to watch you drive to those locations and tell us the relevance of those locations Michael. That auto repair yard and parking lot where murder supposed to have occurred seem so creepy. Thank you, Michael for the virtual tour and for The Dark Hours. You rock!
@@VtRD I got the same problem Marilyn! No one is better than writing dialogues, and every book by Michael Connelly is savoured in a few days and then I got to have a detox period so that I can get back to regular life!!!😊 I count the days until his book is published and get upset that I finished reading so fast....🥴
This was a real treat! I particularly enjoyed the segment where you went to Harry’s ‘house.’ It seems so odd that no one ever built on that parcel in all this time. Thank you for posting this, loved every minute. I’m a geography-phile, always have a map of Hollywood open when I’m reading your work. Video makes it all the more real.
I really enjoyed watching The Lincoln Lawyer as it's my favorite series of Novels and my wife loved it even though she had not read the books! Absolutely terrific extension of the show Bosch too! Thank you
This was wonderful! Makes me want to start the series all over again from the beginning! Thank you for this tour & for all the dark hours I've enjoyed staying up reading your books!
Thank you Michael. I've just started the book. Although living in Australia, I've been in LA several times, but this is really helpful to see the locations mentioned in the book. Thank you.
I'm in Italy and have never been to Los Angeles (nor anywhere else in the States). But I have been a Harry Bosch (and generally Michael Connelly) fan for nearly 20 years. Thank you for showing the locations to The Dark Hours, I'm 40% through the book and loving it (as always). Lots of love from Italy
Just finished the book two nights ago. Reading the entire series has entranced me with regard to the city. I very much enjoyed the visual tour to the book locations and the trivia sprinkled in. Thank you for all your books and the TV show (which has pushed NYPD Blue to my second favorite...)
Thank you for this! You always provide a lot of location details in your books, and I really enjoyed seeing them on video and hearing the back story to some of them.
This video is totally fantastic! Thank you Mr. Connelly! So appreciated. Also: this is a wonderful book: so timely and mysterious from the first word to the last!
I've got Dark Hours on reserve at the library. I lived in LA for thirteen years and I always love LA based novels. Many memories. I'm bummed that Amazon's Bosch will be no more.
Just received the book from Amazon. Glad I found this tour before starting to read the story. I have read all the other Bosch and Ballard books and can't wait to get started this one.
This was just amazing to view. Thanks so much for doing this for your dedicated readers. Been reading and loving Bosch and all books since first time I read Black Echo. Love it ALL. Thanks for the tour.
If you want to know WHY Mr. Connelly's books ring so true, watch this video. Doing part of the ride through at night fits perfectly with the night shift that Renee Ballard works.
Really glad you did this and I wish more authors made videos like this. I have read all your books but have never been to LA so this helps paint the picture of the background for your novels. Again, thank you.
I read The Dark Hours and it was very cool to see the locations! I live in California and occasionally get to Hollywood to visit the Hollywood Bowl or the Pantages Theater and I was trying to visualize as I was reading the book so this was a nice find as I just finished the book yesterday. I have read all of Michael Connelly's books and this was one of my favorites. I especially liked visiting Harry's house on the tour. My daughter went to Chapman and I always enjoyed Harry's visits to Orange County. Thank you for your wonderful books and this visual tour.
I’ve read and enjoyed all of your books starting with The Lincoln Lawyer. I actually saw the movie first and followed by reading. I’ve also watched the Harry Bosch tv series. I really think the Dark Hours is your best so far. Perhaps because , in part, it is so relevant to our current situation. I am intrigued by your ability to integrate the plots so well and can hardly put the book down once I begin. This is one I will read again after taking the visual tour.
Immensely cool. I can't get enough of it. I'd love to see the Hollywood reservoir, the various parks mentioned in the books, the beach where Renee used to sleep, all these locations are so interesting. Love to see some of these iconic restaurants you mention, as well. Love all the series.
Loved your tour of locations in THE DARK HOURS. When I read the book I will remember this video. I've read all your books and viewed all of the Bosch TV episodes and have enjoyed them all. Selfishly I hope you keep writing and never retire. Thank you for all the enjoyable hours you've given me.
My son bought this for me can’t wait to read it. My late Stanley was a great fan of your books also! 🇬🇧 Thank you for the tour really appreciated it Harry Bosch’s house is amazing 😉
Thank you so much Michael - brings a great connection to the narrative. On the Amazon showings I'd always Google place names to get a real feel for their locations. PS NEVER stop writing !! Best wishes from the UK
Really looking forward to reading this latest book. Michael Connelly is my favorite author. This book was the 1 thing that i asked my wife for as a Xmas gift... and it's in a box inside the house waiting for the holiday! Thank you for the on-site tour! Very cool.
I love how the setting and small physical items seem to play equal parts in your narratives to the human characters. It keeps me looking at the bigger picture and looking for metaphors. Just like how you said the geography of the setting in the video tour is dynamically moving through the book. I love that. Keep writing about LA, I love your stuff. I would love to read about old LA, Especially from an old native Angelino support character. The whispers of history, oral tradition. The good history.
This was fun. I am about halfway through the book and am enjoying it immensely. Seeing some of the locations will add to my enjoyment. I particulartly appreciated the stop at Harry's "house" and the info about the streelights. Thanks for the books and for this tour!
ps: Cleaning out the Trailer. I found a bunch of Books! One was youre's! (Darkness More Than Night!) Then I found Stieg Larsson!=(The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest!). Then I found Bugliosi's true Case! = (Till Death Us Do Part)! Freaky case!! Honor to poor Henry Stockton & Judy Palliko. Taken by cruelty so young, so unfair. Case hit Dual Trial in 1968 Los Angeles. God bless the Innocent!
Are we ever going to see a book with Rachel Walling as the main character? Along with Bosch, Ballard and Jack the FBI lady is one of my favorite characters of yours.
I just joined the group. Does anyone know if Mr. Connelly will allow the Haller/Bosch book to be made into a show AND if so will the actors be the TV actors, Titus Welliver and Manuel Garcia Rulfo?
Pardon me and my transgressions if they cause any offence. The heroine in this book is driving round Los Angeles in a "Defender" is that right? So she's driving round in what must be twenty year old Land Rover. what about the maintenance bills? What about the steering? They don't steer that wheel.I suppose if it's good enough for Vera Stanhope in Northumberland it's good enough for LA. Though I could imagine Vera in La in a sort of "Murder She Wrote" scenario.
Was looking forward to reading your new book. Too bad I just finished, The Law of Innocence, where you had to strut your leftist bias and your Trump bashing. You lost a previously loyal fan.

Following the politics of the LAPD in your books it made me wonder, what homicide unit had led the OJ case in 94?
Hollywood division.
