Waiting for delivery of my BS2. Added this video to my bookmarks in order to learn to program some neat 303 sequences which might come handy in many projects to come in future. Thanks for the video!
Man you are awesome! Thank you so much. I bought a BS2 now and this video helped me a lot how to use the sequencer! Big up from Brazil mate. PS: i really liked the introduction video too !
Hello, i'm trying to do some patch assigments to my BSII from my hardware sequencer. Does the BSII accept transmission of CC/PG/Program Change messages? If so, how can we find out the CC values for the different BSII patches, so that we can enter them into the sequencer (for assignment etc.)? Thanks.
This world of hardware synths is new field to me. I never thought of old electronic songs to be done with hardware even though for some people it might be so obvious who know the magic behind all the cool sequences. I have a soft synth background so somehow that led me to think that ages old synth sounds were also done with just a PC using some software. Now as I've digged deep into hardware synth stuff the fact that most of these classic sounds and sequences was made using hardware synths and sequencers has stroke me. I find it fascinating how deep the rabbit hole can go with synths. I'm only scratching the surface. There is so much more to explore. And I start my path with the Bass Station II.
So true wavestrike. Roland don't design the future anymore and haven't done since variphrase in the late 90s. Plus they brand newer, inferior products with legendary synths of the past eg. Jupiter 50 etc.
But does it make any sense to you that a company would say, that product did not do well at its launch, therefore even if millions want it later, we absolutely refuse to profit from it because it did not do well way back when. It makes no sense! I can't believe they think that way. Really it is more that there are no young brains over there, probably a committee of chair fillers deciding everything by committee with no leader.
Wave Strike have you tried the TR-8 out yet? I messed about with it in-store for about 30 minutes today. It does sound good and 'pumped', i think i need to go back and switch off the on-board comp to truly assess the sound and take some headphones too. Nice sequencer and great controls. Not sure about Scatter - its like BT from the early 00s and a performance tweak rather than a true studio function.
Wavestrike Electronics Are you sure? I totally agree that Roland missed many chances in making new machines that can really substitute the old classics. Using the design of the classics for newer digital machines that sound absolutely nothing like the originals was probably the worst thing they could have done and just like you I didn't understand that at all. The AIRAs are really based on a different concept though, using extremely high resolution audio and digitally emulated sound of analog components. It's not just a sample player, it sounds and feels analog to me. If you're looking for a clone of the 808 and 909 the RYTM won't get you there as closely despite of it being truly analog. It does sound fantastic though and if you're not really looking for a clone and want a better sequencer, better sounding effects and parameter locks, you should spend all the extra money (three times as much) and go for the RYTM. Cheers!
If anything, I learned how to program a sequence in no time. Like... seriously no time at all!!! Instant fun. Thanx Sir!
+8 years later, loved this thank you
Really good stuff!!

Thank you so much, I needed this to validate my Bass Station 2 purchase. I don't need to buy a 303!
Rebirth...
Thank you. This is just what I needed. I'm a newb at this hardware synth shiz. But this vid is an eye opener.
Really helpful, thanks.
is it possible to start playing the sequence just by midi clock with an external master seq ?
It is inspired by growing up watching VHS tapes with wobbly intros.
Really helpful video. Thanks!
more vids on the step sequencer please:)
Is there any tips you could give to help with the writing of acid lines?
Is there anywhere online to get more sequencer tabs for other songs besides the songs you did you here???
You might try one of the MIDI sites and then put the MIDI in a piano roll and take a look.

Is the intro inspired by classical gas?
nice tutorial :) how do you make accent ?
ALPES MACHINES Will the BS2 sequencer record changes in velocity? This might produce a pleasing accent.
Is there a way of triggering a sequence in your DAW? I can only seem to trigger it from the actual bass station sequencer?
Set your DAW to trigger when you hit play on your synth. The midi clock from the synth should automatically override the clock/bpm in your DAW
This sounds crazy, but i can find no way of initialising a patch - apart from going to sound 71. Is there a short cut?
I don't think there is a shortcut. However, you can relocate an init patch to any of the 127 locations to be convenient for you.
Digiphex Electronics thank you!
Tweakers Delight or Everybody needs a 303 :) thanks of the muchness!
please do some more videos
hello man.. very useful : )) how do yo get to init patch ? thanks
When I got my BSII years ago I think everything above patch 80 or so was an init. This is not the case?
yea absolutely but.. the display shows "- - -" when you start programming your patch that caught my attention ..
I think I had been messing with the sequencer prior to that and it was merely still reflecting another mode.
ooh cool man thanks... i just use patch number 0 as my init patch hehe
Can I do this via usb connection? Without midi cables?
You don't need a computer or any cables.
Digiphex Electronics thanks
Is it just me, seems to be a pause on the loop ?
Cool man!
yes yes yes da sistemare un pò ma ci siamo !! ;-)
firestarter sound actually made on a korg

That intro needs more MOD and chorus 😅

Raj Patel Not yet, I am getting the RYTM so I don't want to bother with the TR-8.

LousyFacelift I am, but unfortunately they are so popular I can't get one. It has been on order for 2 months.
