Awesome in-depth review! From my 1.5 month experience, I didn’t think it was similar to the 2022 EZ98. To me the Yonex has much less power and spin, but much better control! My current favorite is the previous gen 2020 PAVS, as it has the complete package for me. What bothers me with the new PA98 is the inconsistent depth control on groundies, I don’t know why as I am using the same string and tension as my 2020 PAVS. Still tinkering with its weight setup as we speak. If I am playing a tournament where my life depends on it, it would be my customized 2020 PAVS! Probably it’s the more polarized weight distribution of the new one that is messing my timing.
I wonder what it could be! Would make sense if there is a polarized setup difference that it would matter a lot. Maybe the nf2 feels different than expected plus the lower RA? Hard to say. Thanks for watching!
what is your set up? I just got 2 2020 PAVS. Loving it so far but I changed the grip to leather to add 10grams and 2 grams to the head. Total racquet weight is now 337 which feels great to me as I wanted something that is more solid and still fast through the air. Only thing I am trying to dial in is the string set up. Using 17 guage confidential at 48lbs. Feels abit too power. Increasing tension to 52, will see next week. I wanna try the 16 guage too but 16 srings feel like it has less pocketing.
16 can be stiff. I'd prefer the higher 17 personally but my favorite strings by miles is zero or wasabi by ReString and toroline. I have both in PA98s right now. Zero at 48 and Wasabi at 50. They both feel about perfect but I need more time. Also added a heavier base grip. That's always nice 🙂
I owned the aero and now aero 98. For me, the 98 has better topspin. However, it is much stiffer for some reason. The regular aero gave me no elbow pain, but the 98 does.
Interesting. There was a firmness to the 98. It's hard to say but it could come partially from the smaller head and denser string pattern. Even though it's only slightly smaller and 1 more cross, it might be worth stringing a few lbs lower OR going down a gauge/half gauge in string size.
I also don't doubt that it may have had better topspin somehow.

I agree. In stock weight PUre aero more solid and stabil than ezone a little bit. But have a less spin and comfort. All a little but it can be important ,when you choose a racket. Personally I can play my best tennis with both. More power on serve with ezone. But better return with aero
Yes very small differences! I feel like you can get that from the EZONE with a little weight added. It's light enough to play with weight a bit so might as well. Even the EZONE tour might be just right in this way. I might try that one again more seriously.
Nice in-depth review!! I'm too Ezone 98 fan, playing with it for quite some time. I have been thinking to try out a new racquet which is head heavy, unlike Ezone 98 which is sort of handle heavy and Pure Aero 98 is in my list. Could you please suggest other head heavy racquets which I can consider.
Hmmm you mean actually head heavy and not just balanced? A lot of good players achieve this by adding weight to the head, especially if they are spin heavy hitters. Spin-friendly rackets off the shelf are generally always pretty headlight. But almost all rackets today are anyway. So get a headlight racket and add weight maybe?
The options of rackets which are actually head heavy off the shelf are so slim. I can't really suggest any since they barely exist.
I've been adding weight to my Pure Aero 98.

Hey man, great review! How would you compare the Aero 98 to a Strike 98 16x19? Have a couple of gen 2s (the first white Strikes) and I’m looking for something a little bit more powerful and spin-friendly. The Aero 98 sounds like it checks all these boxes.
It might! It is a bit stiffer, and notably more spin. Still decent control from the string pattern whereas the Strike always got that more so from the frame/flex. I prefer the PA98

One other thing that extra string does effects the sound on impact and makes it deeper and nicer.. You should definitely try new vcore 100, it has denser string pattern than ezone 98, have similar level of power with excellent dwell time resulting better control and stability. Been playing with all 3,ezone 98, vcore 98 and 100 for a while and vcore 100 definitely beats them all in many ways. My previous racket was also vcore 98 earlier version...
I know for sure the VCORE 100 is not as densely spaced as the EZONE 98 so how did you figure that? None of them are, actually.
Nice analytics! I personally prefer new Aero 98 over ezone 98 as ezone feel a bit more sluggish and bulky to me. I don’t like the bulkiness around 10 and 2. But they are really very similar. I feel they both a bit bumped and I personally like this feel.
Totally understand. Bulky you mean the head size is expanded in that area with the isometric head shape? I'm not quite sure I follow.
Awesome review! I’m in between the aero 98 and ezone 98 too as of now… the ezone 98 w a round string solinco outlast 1.15mm at 50lbs feels good but i think the thinner strings doesn’t last, starting to fly on me after 2 hours of play. I do have the ezone w lead tape at 3 and 9 for me since mine was abit underspec w sw around 309-310 and low tw. and a friend suggested for lead tape at 3 and 9 (3.5g total) so now it’s at 323 sw and 14.32 tw While aero 98 w a kirschbaum max power 1.30mm 55-53lbs was at 323 sw but the thicker string makes it less forgiving for me and stiff, probably too high tension for me. the tw however is low at around 11.19 stock. Im thinking a thinner and less stiff string and also lower tension would help, and abit of lead for plow maybe 2g. But i must say ezone does play abit more forgiving… while i cant miss the sweetspot w aero if nt it dies, both the vs and the 98.
Im by no mean a stringbreaker so both are an option for me still, but feels like the ezone provides more control and consistency for me cuz forgiving.
I am curious w the restring zero strings doe but it’s abit hard to get cuz im in indonesia. idk what to put in my aero 98, blackwidow 18 1.21mm feels good in my aero vs but dies quick.

I think with the EZONE you can put in a slightly thicker gauge since it's a little softer. If it's playing too launchy for you, that might be what I would do. Thin strings can be that way no matter what tension, kind of like really thick strings are dead/stiff no matter how loose you go. I personally really like something around 17 gauge. 18 is too thin in the mains .You can try 17 mains 18 cross as well. That can be a clever idea.
I think a little lead on the EZONE is a good idea and I will probably do this OR get the tour version at some point. Let me know if you get closer to a decision!
@@ZeroLoveTennis will let you know!! As of now i’m just keeping both. And agreeing with you,, i think 1.20mm/17 gauge is the way to go in both racquets! The ezone is too launchy w thin solinco outlast 1.15mm string, after 2 session (1 match play and 1 training w friends, only use half the session each time). The first session w this string was nicee, but after that i felt like it flew alott.
For aero vs, 1.25mm for me is still okay in the aero i tried confi, tour bite, so i tried 1.30mm but it got the sweetspot even smaller and also cuz i think im using kirschbaum max power, ever heard of this string? I got it cuz according to tw compare string tools, it’s super durable, and cuz im a cheapo haha, but again it’s super stiff and low powered.
However, for ezone for some reason cuz the string pattern is so dense in the center, makes it soo boardy w thicker gauge like 1.25 and above for me cuz the squares are even smaller! I prefer a medium stiffness poly or maybe lower tension w a 1.25mm under 50lbs, cuz i think ezone is more controlled cuz of the denseness of the sweetspot.I used to use the wilson blade v8 w kirschbaum max power at 55lbs w 1.25mm and 1.30mm for 3 months last year after 9months of aero vs(stock, modified w lead at 10-12-2, leather grip, tried it all haha), alot of people say the blade is nt powerful, but if i had strung the ezone at 55lbs w same string n gauge, i bet it would have less power.
Like what you said, the ezone’s tightness i think matched the 18x20 blade v8, and i tried it before. I know that w the 18x20 blade, i had to string w kirschbaum at approx 45lbs cuz even 48lbs was tighter than my 16x19 blade at 55lbs. Cuz of that, I never strung ezone above 52lbs cuz before, i tried a 1.25mm gauge there at that gauge and i never got good depth w it compared to blade 16x19 at 55lbs. I think the blade got the power, but prolly less spin? Ezone has a sort of hidden power but same control as blade, Based on my own experience doe. I regretted selling the 18x20 and choosing the 16x19 cuz i think i can generate enough spin w 18x20 also need that predictablility and control in return for less of that trampoline effect, just gotta lower tension for that pocketing. More predictable. It might be a third option if both of these do not work for me, the orange roland garros blade 18x20s, since it felt like the ultra pro 18x20/ultra tour i used previous to the aero vs, but w more power.
So how i measured sw is via a friend of mine who bought the Briffidi SW machine, he lended it to me but nt sure if Twistweight is accurate cuz calibrating it is soo hard, but no machines for measurement in Indonesia, closest is if i buy frm singapore. Same w demoing racquet, have to buy and sell, unfortunately
What strings do you recommend in the 1.20mm gauge, hyper g? I cant get restring zero :( looking for smthing durable, i know this would mean thicker strings, but also means more stiffness for durability, but string finding is so hard and im such a geek for these equipment.

Hmmm what would I suggest. Zero should actually be available in Asia pretty soon so I hope that includes Indonesia. It's hard to think of another string. A lot of them are the same to me, more or less. Volkl cyclone, hyper G, confidential, polytour pro. Ytex quadrotwist might be a little launchy in the ezone. Go a few lbs higher than you might normally with that one.

Hello I am an club player and I have been playing with the aero since I started playing when I was five. Do you think that i can play with the 98 or do you agree with other youtubers that say that this is a racquet for pros because it is a small racquet?
I think that kind of idea is silly because only 2 inches smaller and you would barely notice the headsize difference. People saying such things are very out of touch and sticking to old conventional wisdom even when it's just a small difference of 2 inches. No, I wouldn't listen to that narrative at all. It's virtually as "easy" to use as the regular Pure Aero but with a little more precision and stability and control overall. Many other 100's or 98's would be harder in the generic ways in which that advice is designed. I'm certain if you tried it you would see that it is nearly the same.
Which racket is better to use in stock form? Ezone 98 or Aero 98?
Depends but I might pick pure aero. I might play my better tennis with it but the really open pattern bothers me just a little. However it's more stable and very possibly a little more controlled. Still great power but you're in a little better control of it.
You want an objective answer to your question, but there isn't one.
We can make some objective observations though. One such observation is to use TWU data and make some more measurable comparisons between the two.
Right out of the box, if roughly on spec, both of them, the Aero 98 better wins the battle of ball Vs racket. That impacts performance in a very direct way. It also seems, if I remember right, to have a high ratio outside the more hittable area (so a slightly larger more effective hitting area). It means more power. More effective stability. More forgiveness.
If one big factor for you is to have as much punch with as little weight as possible then the Aero 98 wins this bit.
The Aero 98 I think also objectively swings faster. And it better rewards fast modern topspin swings. If you're a player that loves to hit bombs from the baseline and your control is through RPMs, this is likely to be a better racket than the ezone 98 regardless of whether you're customising or using in stock.
I feel the Ezone 98 starts to win out though when we shift the focus to other areas or a more well rounded approach. It has slightly better directional control and lends itself to more all round modern play I'd say. Players that can't quite tap into the benefits that come with the Aero 98s swing speed and spin potential but still like the approach of a modern spin 98 may find better results with the vcore 98 or ezone 98. It (ezone) also feels a little nicer at contact, which has no real direct impact on performance but hey.
Which is better, stock or not, is going to come down to you personally. What is it you value the most? Even then, your swing style and qualities you have game wise, you may get different findings with the same two rackets compared to someone else. Quality control can even factor in there.
For me, three of the biggest qualities I look for are swing speed, spin access, and punch per lb so to speak. So I want a fast swinging setup that hits above its weight but one where I can control that fast swinging power through spin. And Yonex rackets do not hit as effectively per lb compared to Babolat. I customise, so I can fix that with Yonex and I used to do that, but swing speed suffers compared to getting more per lb at a lighter spec with Babolat. I also feel that the Aero 98 has marginally easier spin access than the vcore 98 and the ezone 98. So I switched back to Babolat because it wins in all three key areas there. A little more directional control isn't enough for me personally to counterbalance this. My game is just slightly better when I tap more into those three things.

Do you think the 98 will be better for my spin game? Or should i just get the 100? Just trying to get some opinions because in my country its really hard to get demos for racquet. Thanks again.
Hello! I get mixed answers about how both compare. It's hard to say you should get the 98 to get more spin...
If you want more spin, I actually switched from the pa98 to the Dunlop SX series. The 300 and 300 tour offer even more than a pure aero and are more comfortable. It's a very impressive racket and is what I wished a pure aero could be in some ways.

Thanks for your content! So, I guess the Blade 104 v8 only lasted ~6 months (or less?) as your #1? Interesting... As for the EZ98, how about the EZ98+, provided you're still looking for extended-length frames. Or have you moved on from that as well? Genuinely curious, on all fronts.

Blade 104 probably about that long. It revealed the sacrifice of plus lengths and that racket changed how I felt about extended length and the EZONE kind of finalized it. The 98+ I can feel the difference in stability as well as the slightly long and sluggish feel but there are things to like. Maybe the cons start to outweigh the pros really quickly when playing with length.
I do plan to make a video on my updated understanding and thoughts on extended length frames. I have some new things to say about them.
Great review.. between prostaff 97l v14 290g and pure aero 300g 2023 which one is more precise, controlled and have good stability with power and arm friendliness for a 2 handed backhand?
That's a tough question. Honestly, my first thought is that the handle is annoyingly short on the prostaffs so anything with a two handed backhand on those for me is not great. The new Pure Aeros are pretty stable and I bet the string spacing is a little tighter than the pro staff. Control is a little subjective but between those I'd say it's similar. I'd vote pure aero

Never messed with the mp much. I recall it having such an open string pattern that I rejected on site haha. Never tried the extreme.
Honestly a lot of things could be close between the two rackets. Prostaff pattern is a little more open isn't it? But maybe you're asking about a lighter pure aero and I think that could be more open than the standard. I haven't tried it. I can't advise too much. But I think the engineering of a babolat racquet would make me more interested vs the prostaffs right now.
I can't speak on these questions specifically but I know which I'd choose based on a few things but that's just me.
Sorry if that's not too helpful. I generally only mess with the pro or tour style versions of most racquets since they are much much closer to what I look for.

Ezone 98, VCore 98 or PA 98: In your opinion, Which one would best fit a 4.0 senior all court player with one-hander, some spin, flat, touch shots..
I'd say the latter 2. Maybe vcore 98 best and I say that with solid confidence. But if you want it whippy then pure aero. Those can both flatten out pretty well.

what about the grommets, are they better than normal aero?

Neither of mine showed signs of failing in such time so I can't really speak to that. Are you speaking of the headguard area or like the grommet holes/openings? I've seen some people's tie-off grommets bust open but I don't know if that's them or the racquet. I didn't have that issue.
you mentioned that this racquet is not for players who hit flat...but I am looking for a racquet that actually provides a lot of spin since I tend to hit the ball relatively flat, and I am looking for a racquet that can add that extra spin whihout having to modify much my stroke in general...what are your thoughts on this?
I think you will definitely have to learn to hit with more spin to really get it. What really sucks is when you have that stroke or style but the racket really fights you. However, if you aren't hitting to get spin, I'm not so sure a spin friendly racket will help that much.
However, you might happen to be on a racket that forces a pretty flat ball no matter what. Some really do this! What racket are you on? The Pure Strike 18x20 basically just wouldn't allow for me to achieve a high RPM ball no matter what. I tried everything and other rackets just offer more of that 2-3 fold.

I am currently using Prince Warrior 100 ESP from 2014 and play with lots of spin and power .
I think the Pure Aero 98 is many times more interesting and versatile so I would get that, personally. I think it always rewards spin and power better as it offers quite a lot in both departments but in a controlled way very unique to this racquet. If you have iOS, my code saves you a whopping 10% on this racquet! Might be close to 50 dollars if you're in the USA you can do it.

Hmm...I wouldn't want to mess with it too much actually. It's already stable enough, any more and it would start taking away from the spin. Swingweight already solid but if you forced me to, I'd probably put it at 12 and 6 so I don't mess with twistweight and I'd like to add a little on the handle to offset that.
But yeah ideally I don't know if I'd add any or much! Almost certainly not at 3/9 though.
Completely irrelevant but I love the lighting setup l. I would only add hair light if you really wanted to be little more stylish. Great review too
Appreciate that! I seem to fluctuate between trying to get a higher production setup look and just getting the video done. Some of my more recent content looks a bit sharper in these ways but I have a handful that are just set and forget too. Going to sell my current old DSLR and maybe buy a new one in the near future. The phone has been just fine for me yet this video was shot on a t5i and some very basic 50mm lens, if I recall.

I'm trying to decide between the Pure Aero 98 and EZ98 (2022), but will only have the chance to demo the EZ98. I was wondering if you have any suggestions for what I should take note of when testing the 98 to get an idea of whether the Aero 98 might suit me better? I'm a lefty baseliner with strong groundstrokes (2bh quite flat). I'm coming from a 2019 gravity pro tour (yonex polytour @ low 50lbs) and looking for something that I can keep using from the baseline but will be a bit more reliable at the net. Thanks :)
Hmm in stock form I def feel the PA98 is better at net and general stability. More controlled power, possibly better spin but also better ability to stay stable on flatter shots.
In stock form, in otherwords, I generally believe the PA98 to be superior. My newer content might make this more apparent. Lmk if you check it out!

I like to swing pretty hard and can find that I tend to hit long with less spin friendly rackets, so the more controlled power of PA98 may be a slightly better suit than the Ezone. Sure thing! Awesome. The EZ98 is cool but the combined feeling of too much power and not enough stability was an issue. But the tour model helps with that a bit. Still, a lot of power. But pretty good spin. That PA98 is hard to beat haha

The Pure Aero might be a little more stable for driving through the shot on an attacking backhand slice but both generate spin really well. I think you can get the same stability on the EZONE 98 with just a touch of weight. Or, you could try the tour version which I actually am considering.
They're both great. I wonder if you'd prefer one to the other by a lot or just a little.
Just tried this racquet with the new Vcore 95. To be honest I was dissapointed compared to my Prince. The 95 still has a very muted thud feeling, which isnt so nice on impact. The Pure Aero 98 2023 has a weird vibration upon impact and the ball was launching like crazy. Inconsistent stringbed. Not bad racquets at all, but not for me.

Right on. I always worry demo places over tension the strings on the vcore 95 but maybe they didn't and that's just how you feel. I wonder what you'd think of the shift 315 or EZONE 98.
Prince is pretty different though. I had a textreme 95 a while back. Good times! Went to prostaff autograph after that.

Anyways, I realized how good my Textreme Tour 100 310 is that I wouldn't switch. I found out I has a twistweight of 15,3 which is high. Thats why everything else feels pretty unstable for me. Ezone was extremely unstable in my opinion, so it needed a lot of weight.

Have you tried head hawk pro; its made local here in the USA and that pretty eco to me. I have a dozen sets coming in this week to see if its as good as the toroline cause toroline seems to hate its customers.
Toroline is such a mystery to me. I'm all about ReString now.
ReString is interesting. They ship from factory to warehouse in eco ways as well. Biodegradable packaging. They are even conscious to minimize packaging where possible since that's really the best thing, in addition to biodegradable.
I have. I think it's an ok string. Falls into the same category as something like tourbite/polytour pro etc.
For me, it's a night and day difference with zero. Not like it's a little better here and there, I'm talking massively better, no comparison level of difference.
Head hawk is a fine string but snapback and durability, topspin potential, way higher on zero.
And for me that's all very important.

I'm excited for you as well! What do you usually string at, tension wise? This string is so slick that I think it pulls a little bit easier and therefore might result in higher tension than you may expect since it doesn't have to overcome the friction as much when weaving crosses.
So I recommend a couple pounds lower than you might do vs a string you are familiar with.
I go 48lbs in my ezone 98 but others I might go 50-53.
I just love my blade 98 18x20! It is pure control!!! But start to give me shoulder pain when I serve! Do you think the Aero 98 will be easier on my shoulder?
Hmm I'm not sure! Blade softer but a little heavier? You might try messing with the balance using a heavier base grip. But is the shoulder just hurting from serves? Hard to say. Could be so many reasons this happens but maybe answering this question can help

I see. Might have to cooperate with balance more and learn to relax more. I think a lot of people actually underrate how involved the wrist is for serve. Because we're taught not to for regular shots but for the serve it's kind of different. The wrist snap greatly accelerates momentum you get from your arm. But a lot of people try to over accelerate with the arm. A slightly heavier racket or maybe a more head heavy racket would greatly exploit some issues with that and maybe cause arm issues.

You'll have to try to know. I couldn't say for sure but technique goes a long way. My serve rarely gets practice. I always have to remember how to stay loose so I can crack like a whip instead of trying to whack the ball hard. It's a subtle but very big difference
could you tell me the difference between the ezone 98 and the blade 98?
Ezone much more powerful. Maybe slightly less stable in stock form. Will feel a little or a lot stiffer depending on the tension you use. Bigger sweetspot and probably more topspin potential.
If you have to pick up one: vcore98 or pure aero 98?
PA98, easy. I actually don't know if there is a single thing I prefer about the VC98. I like options from the Percept series a bit more for sure but the PA98 might still win out. It's just more my style but the design choices and playability of the Percept attracts me more for what it is. The vcores just are just not quite as good at what they aim to be, in my opiniion, as the PA98. But I'm sure some will prefer it and that is fine, it's good to have different choices.

This is true. However, I imagine this was also true back a couple decades ago or even further back. But I feel like 5-10 years ago there was a lot of variety but maybe the market kind of found it's home in recent times. For now...
Do you customize your ez98 at all?
Not really at least not yet. I kind of plan to. Just overgrip and a little shape I add to my handles with puts a few grams in those areas.
Does it breaks alot of strings?
More than some for sure but it's not super bad. I use a string now that's so durable and spin friendly so I'm much less worried about that than in the past. Lasts me about 8-10 hits now where every other poly would only last 3-5 at best

You mean the VS has a thinner beam compared to the 98? Maybe it does. Maybe if everything is equal but one has a thinner beam, then it might feel that way but only if the drag from a thicker beam makes the difference, I imagine. That would be really hard to tell.

@@ZeroLoveTennis The new Pure Aero 98 was wrecking my elbow. Seems like I'm a unique case as I haven't heard other people complain about it. It didn't really have anything to do with how the racket plays. I play well with both the Pure Aero VS/98 and Extreme Tour rackets. But, due to the tennis elbow issues, I decided to switch over to the more comfortable of the two.
I gotcha. I could see it causing issues but there are worse out there. However this wouldn't be an arm friendly recommendation 😅
Babolat is known for a hollow feel while Yonex is known for a solid feel. Is this an exception to that?
Actually kind of it but it's still Babolat. I think the older Babolats felt more hollow and today's yonex options feel a bit more Babolat.

I tried the next closest thing. Didn't find it all too similar but I'll say this:
Loved it on volleys. Good at baseline but it's a little flatter hitting than I like and was surprisingly powerful. My buddy @actennis feels similarly and he also has the pro stock model from Sinner's inventory.
@@ZeroLoveTennis U didn't give it enough time, spaced strings therefore high spin, agree about power, stiff racket but overall comparable to bab 98 or ezone 98.
I'd pick it over EZONE probably. Likely not the PA98
but at this time I prefer the Prokennex black Ace 105 over them all. What a plot twist haha at least on paper but in reality it makes more sense.

I might have a guess as to why you don't like that but may I ask why? Is it a feel/stiffness thing? A consistency thing across the stringbed texture? Or the way it wears on itself when it's shaped? I've had many opinions that were always justified until zero came along and revealed that those things are just problems for other strings. Not zero.
As someone who's felt this way before I'm very curious what your thinking is. I'd love to hear 🙂
@@ZeroLoveTennis consistency in shots with direction, depth, spin with the same technique. Round = consistency. My current favorite string is razor code white 1.30
I gotcha. It's not too pronounced like a string such as black window is or tour bite, etc. It's quite subtle.
How do you feel about a gear shaped poly? I see what you mean but I personally don't sense this inconsistency on this stringbed but have on others with really extreme edges you can feel. This is not one of those strings.
Unfortunately for me I feel round strings don't quite bite the ball enough. They feel like the ball is allowed to slip a little on the bed especially returning a heavy slice with a volley or something.
You could just say that Babolat is simply not as sexy as Yonex)))
