While Sakurai and his team did say he was too big at first, they actually did try to get Ridley to be a playable character for the last Smash. The problem was that he was still too big for the 3DS, so they made him a stage hazard for the meantime.

I really don't know why you guys (and a lot of other reactors) were expecting this game to come out in September. First of all, there're 3 games coming that month, back-to-back-to-back: Spider-Man PS4 Sept. 7, Rise of the Tomb Raider Sept. 14, and Spyro Reignited Trilogy Sept. 21. I really don't know what you guys were expecting.... Secondly, you can clearly see that there is a bit of polish still required for the game. Plus, holiday is always the best time to release a game, considering it's just in time for Christmas, parents know what to get their kids. It's actually great marketing.

My one reasoning for placing it in September was simply Nintendo needs an incentive for the online. If you suddenly have to pay for the free online service with no incentive, why would anyone buy it? Pendulum Panda 2 reasons. 1. We live in Australia and because of time zones the presentation had to be at 1:30am 2. I had work from 7:30am to 8pm the next day. So I would have been just too tired to record, not to mention the direct probably would have been spoiled for me in that time

Nintendo needs to give people an real incentive to buy their online, and why would people buy it if they don’t have any new games to showcase it?
