Funny how now that the game's been out for over a year I've kinda forgotten how unbelievably hype these announcements were at the time and watching them all back now has seen all those emotions flooding right back
even now, "Everyone is Here!" still brings me tears of varying degrees.
I just wish we got the music in the game from the first trailer. Imo it's the best

Yeah, does really put into perspective the salt from here and there from different things, at the end of the day,yes obviously not every single person on earth got their favorite character in smash, but geez that roster is still hella neat, and for anyone playing this more or less casually, it's still so hype to see characters like ridley, k rool, and the fact that everyone from smash is there, it's a really amazing thing that I think we somewhat forget because people still put their hopes for this or that character for the next dlc. Like, sure byleth was a let down for a bunch of folks, and I get why, but geez look back at the roster and there's still a lot of appreciation to be had. (hope this doesn't come off as "criticism=bad", I'm not trying to say people can't complain [to a reasonable degree ofc, death threat and tings alike aren't valid criticism], it's more of a reminder to look back at what smash ultimate actually is and realise that damn, no matter what they release next, what we already have is still a really really cool thing).

I don't care what some people believe, Terry's reveal was goddamn lovely as a SNK fan.
I'm pretty sure all of the third party reveals were lovely for the fans. Especially Banjo and Terry, who from the looks of it don't get much rep nowadays which is sad (they seem like fun characters), I just don't get any of them. What's it like having played one of these games and getting your boy in, genuinely curious as it has not happened for me.
I was just glad something so obscured got the chance to be represented and wasn’t just purely what the fans wanted.
Terry’s trailer had a lot of love put into it, I absolutely love the 2D Sprite Art!

I was kinda similar. I had about the same knowledge of the series, but had an interest in trying it out sometime. Then hero gets in smash and I hear people say how great DQ11 is, and next thing I know I'm skewering slimes. Funny thing, hearing vinny sing praises was my final push to get the game. I only ever heard him speak so highly of an RPG once before, when he played earthbound.
I actually got into the series with DQ Builders 2, and then I played the DQ 11 demo. I got hooked and I’m proud I did.

To be fair, the five stages of grief were never originally intended to be taken as sequential, I think. It was more of a categorization of the types of feelings a person might go through, and not everyone would experience them all, instead of a deliberate, orderly five-step plan.

There were four (arguably five) copies of the same FE character, equaling one quarter of what you claim there is.
If we include all FE, not just Marth's copies, we had a total of seven in the base game, not even half of what you claim.
If we expand your scope to what you claim is the issue with FE - anime swordsmen - then we add the three Links, Shulk, Cloud, Meta Knight (because he was actually a swordsman in an anime), and Mii Swordfighter (just to be generous), totaling twelve. Only 3/4 of what you claim.
Not even by expanding to absurd levels do we get what you claim.

Richter is my favorite Belmont, so when Divine Bloodlines played and I immediately knew.
I don’t blame people who don’t recognize him though. He was only a main character in one western game, that wasn’t received particularly well, and a pseudo antagonist in SotN, which is universally beloved (though Richter took a backseat there).
Castlevania fans that don’t know Richter are kinda missing out. :)

The more I see the Byleth reveal, the less thought-out it appears. Prefaced with being the reveal of the last character, but makes a slow build to the invitation while using Three Houses footage. The others had mystery or tease and/or pre-rendered footage.
It was already unfortunate that the last mystery was another Fire Emblem character, but the trailer felt like slow death.
@@yellowcard8100 Honestly the fact the end of FP1 wasn't Dante and all the chips were aligned in his favor makes me think he's a lock for #1 of FP2. He was just delayed or something, if he isn't and the first of FP2 is another first-party character then all hope is lost.

I don't care if I'm interested in a series or not, any time a new character is shown I'm excited. Like, I knew little about Terry so I wasn't hoping for him to join, but when I saw that he was announced I was still very happy. Why? Because it's yet another world to add into Smash, not to mention everyone who is genuinely excited for the character himself- That's what I like the most.
Smash is a celebration of gaming. So while I have my own dream characters (none of which can possibly be added), I'm always happy to see someone new. I'm not going to say, "This is _fine,_ I guess *Sigh",* and making it clear several times over that either you actively dislike the character or don't care either way (which doesn't sound convincing), rather I'd like to be at least a little happy about it. The Fire Emblem character _was_ disappointing, yes, but it's so unreal to me that someone could get so upset that they would voice their displeasure everywhere they go. No, I'm not talking about Vinny, I mean, I never expect much optimism from him most of the time, but that's just who he admits himself to be (I like your streams regardless, Vin). I was talking about reactions from anyone. It's never, "That character looks neat" or whatever. It's usually either, "OH MY FUCKING GOD BEST DIRECT 11/10", or, "NINTENDO KILLED MY DOG".
That kind of thing will never change. It's true with anything ever. Either way, I'll always try to look at the positive because, believe it or not, it's not fun to boil over with searing pessimism and I'll truly, _truly_ never understand those who do that. You can criticize, because why not? I hate when people dismiss that kind of thing. I just think that you can still at least _try_ to enjoy something, regardless of who you are- unless it's crap from the Android trash streams, if anything makes me lose faith, its those.

i think byleth wouldn't have been as controversial if he hadn't been the last charachter of the pack. make him second to last, and banjo the last, and i think it would have been more well received
Byleth being added is controversial due to the fact that there were already 7 FE reps (most of which play the same with very minor tweaks to each fighter) before them. They wouldn't have been as controversial (if not non-controversial) if they would have been like the 3rd or 4th FE rep rather than the 8th. Hell the over representation is the reason a lot of people kinda groaned about Daisy and Piranha Plant (leading to 7 Mario reps) and Incineroar (leading to 8 Pokémon reps, 10 if you count Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard separately.)
TL;DR: Over representation of the FE series is why Byleth is "controversial."

Drone Gaming There is a lot of Fire Emblem characters but I disagree that most of them play the same. If you played Roy/Chrom the same way you played Marth/Lucina you’d get your ass kicked because Marth and maybe Lucina to an extent rely on their range and the tipper with Marth to do damage while with Roy you have to get as close as possible to hit the opponent. Other than that, Ike, Robin, Corrin, and Byleth all play incredibly different from each other and I’m sure if Ultimate wasn’t “Everyone is Here” Sakurai would’ve removed a couple of the FE characters.
@@SonGohan-fx3vb I should have been more specific when I said most of them play the same. I meant special wise. For neutral B Marth, Lucina, Roy, Chrom and Ike all have a charge that leads to a powerful thrust/explosion. With the exception of Robin, all of them (dunno if Byleth does) have a counter for down B. Marth, Lucina, Roy and Chrom all have rapid hit combos for side B. Excluding Robin and Corrin, all of their up B moves are slight variations of the same upward sword slash/throw sword into the air recovery.

rewatching these announcements makes me appreciate how much passion goes into this game, just from the character reveals themselves. showing the character interactions between them all like ken signaling to zelda and link beating the shit out of him, to isabelle stopping sonic from running just makes me laugh hard
you can hear how vinny gets more annoyed after every swordsman reveal.
