@@illford its not that he wanted to, he just couldnt close the stock in time. He had to stick to Mythra at his current percent because Pyra lacked the frame data to close it out.

And lets be real, ALL sonic players tend to run out the clock intentional or not because they always Steve their way to the other end of the stage whenever theyre in disadvantage
Everyone will remember this run for the Joker, and rightfully so, but Leo’s Aegis got him over a huge hurdle this tournament
It be like that. When he wins tournaments, they usually are remembered for Joker or Byleth, with that Aegis against Sonix or a Pikachu in there somewhere. Also don’t forget about that Rob against Min Min
Yeah no other Leo character beats Sonix. Aegis has the right tools for the job, mixed with his insane adaptability

MkLeo timing out Sonix is the best thing I've seen in a smash tourney in a while
Sonix was switching his playstyle so fast the second leo switched to pyra or mythra, well played to both and great adaptation from leo to close it out.
There were actually times where I felt like Leo switched to Pyra specifically to bait sonix into closing the gap, then switched to mythra for the frame data in the scrap lol
Fr this was a great set from both
Is this the first time Leo has ever Reverse 3-0’d with Aegis?
I’ve seen it with Joker, Byleth, AND Marth but not with Aegis

What a way to destroy Sonix.
I don't know what happened there in game 3, but Sonix just started obviously panicking. He had a comfortable lead and just started dropping everything he tried and then not trying to reset neutral or get a better position. He just went full steam ahead trying to get the kill and it lost him this set.
There was this one instance in game 3 where all he had to do was drop spring to edge guard but instead instead went deep offstage for no reason. Had he had done that he would’ve had a 3 - 1 stock lead and most likely would’ve beat Leo.

I respect sonix for knowing his character. I don't know anyone that changes their playstyle/tempo as well as him. At the same time, seeing Leo completely download him was so satisfying.
being campy and running away and going in with spindash nonstop isn't really a change of playstyle/tempo, it's the same tempo because spindashing on shield is crazy safe
@Paomaru tbf, that's Sonics win condition on the whole roster. Works damn well too, so you can't blame Sonix that his characters moveset is effective, no matter how boring it is to watch. Leo is Leo tho lmao
@Paomaru thats not all he does lol. Granted that's what he mostly does but that's him knowing his character. He knows when to change from being campy to aggressive. Watch his set vs spargo yesterday
I can respect that but it kinda sucks as a spectator to watch him play when a decent amount of his matches nearly end time-outs because it consists of running back and forth.
@@rie442 With sparg0 he was playing defensively and sometimes camping (lose the first round when he was in the offensive) the difference here was that he has less confidence against mkleo, so he tends to stay away with the neutral B, instead of staying closer to counter like with sparg0
I noticed Leo seemed to be more comfortable with mythra in neutral obviously bc of her speed but the switches to pyrha whenever he got good positioning were legendary. He may have incorporated a bit of spargos idea/playstyle from lmbm

I’m not the first person to say this and I definitely won’t be the last, but god damn man even in top 8 it just feels like a waste of time to watch Sonix play. Legitimately the only high level Ultimate I don’t want to watch. At the end of the day respect to the dude for doing what he needs to do to win but it’s frustrating as a fan and spectator.
In sonix's set against spargo were many comments of sudden sonix "fans" saying how hype he is for beating spargo and many others saying that he is not hype because of his history doing stall and "fans" denying or trying to minimize that... wellp, game 4 was the only hype one in this set and of course was because of leo's having advantage and still looking for interactions instead of stalling when there were a minute left... i was watching m2k stream durning this set and he was saying that leo was loosing the first 2 games for being impacient, and that was true, sonic is not the problem with that guy, is his horrible playstile, i would like to see how sudden sonix fans try to justify that time out at game 4...

Tbh I don't think sonix was playing campy on purpose this game. Sonic normally looses the mu against pythra because of their frame data and how mythra can keep up with sonic. Sonix was respecting the space pythra can cover cuz if u play too aggressive, they will route u and destroy you so sonix was switching his playstyles whenever Leo switched between pythra. He gets more openings against pyra but looses most of those openings against mythra

People were mad because he was trying to commit to them as a full time main a few months ago, I think (like around summit and stuff).
I think now that he’s keeping them around solely as an answer for Sonic, people are less mad (Except for Coney but lol).
I do actually really like his Aegis as well though. His Joker is stylish, and his Byleth is explosive, so it’s kinda nice to have a character that he plays more straightforward and efficient

To be fair, sometimes when someone starts reading you more and has downloaded your playstyle, you get scared to bust out your biggest options because it goes from "I use this to help me in neutral" to "If I use this it'll probably get stuffed..."

Exactly man. He plays Sonic so patient and safe and I feel that’s what makes it more enjoyable and optimal. Sonic is made as a fast ass character story wise and gameplay wise known to go in first without regards for safety. Sonix chooses the right timing and options for punishing. To see his style of Sonic shine is very refreshing tbh

Is timeout Sonic really the optimal strat? Maybe I don’t understand something, but wouldn’t going full aggro or bait and punish with a character this fast, who does this much damage per combo net EVEN better results?
It depends on the situation and MUs. Sonix rarely times people out anyway it's just that the gameplay is usually slow because committing for both players is really scary
I mean approaching tends to be such a big issue because his spin dashes have high priority and I-Frames so it's almost to impossible to safely approach without baiting him out first. It's definitely a lot better to wait him out since as long as you have the lead, he can't wait for you with spindash charge and he has to actually go to you
It’s a scary mu for Sonic since aerials beat out spin dash and Pyra’s dair combos into kill at pretty low damages. MkLeo capitalised on this multiple times during the set. Also I don’t think I saw camping in this match like some comments have been stating, just patient play from both players.
