  • Broken to the Fist takes us closer to the brink of war, each player positioned and the stage set by a landscape. Toranaga holds back from his son, demotes him, and then makes Omi responsible for the regiment that killed Jozen. The council of regents is paralyzed, and Ochiba comes in to make a difference.

I believe Mariko was saying John should not have seen her after she was beaten by Buntaro

Buntaro being showen how good a shoot it is after several miso bowls of sake indicates that "Sake"/"being drunk" can't be the excuse for him beating Mariko.

19:12 She's saying that the John, the Hatamoto who's house she's living in shouldn't have seen "this", "this" being her in that situation. It's got nothing to do with Buntaro seeing something he shouldn't. Notice which language she's speaking and to whom, Fuji, not John, doesn't make any sense for "he" to refer to Buntaro in that context.

In the official podcast, they said, that an arrow at the entrance of a house means a bad omen. And somebody Japanese in the comments then further explained that there is some kind of proverb that says that a white arrow at the entrance of a house means the house is offering a human sacrifice to the gods. And this omen was fulfilled and this sacrifice was given by the death of the gardener.

Acktuuuually, fresh pheasant is a poor food.. It requires hanging for a few days it enriches the flavour and yes makes it more tender. Some people do take this to far for my taste but some amount of hanging is necessary..

3:42 Uh... or you just misunderstand the meaning of the word? Ronin aren't *necessarily* hired soldiers, they're just "vagrant samarai without a master" (I.e. homeless, without a Lord they swear fealty to). It doesn't mean mercenary, just leaderless, homeless, and samurai. Yes, many Ronin were mercenaries, but it does not mean that. It also doesn't mean they don't have their own political opinions or allegiances.... think of them like Hedge Knights, I guess? They wander around looking for work. Why would they help him? Who knows, respect? They're always looking for honor in this culture. They could've thought Toranaga was the right in it or just wanted to fight. But don't assume they were hired just because they're called Ronin, that's not what that word means.
Yeah, seems fishy, but I think we're supposed to take it at face value, Buntaro doesn't seem the clever type, and his dad is literally Toranaga's right hand man and has his son (I think in their castle but if he left I'm not sure now), and his wife is Toranaga's trusted translator. Him pulling a betrayal without motive (he doesn't have one *yet*, he doesn't know about our boy sleeping with his wife, who, to be fair, thought he was dead.)
