As Mark often says, looks are so subjective. At 1:33, I found myself strongly agreeing that the P770 looks like a blade, which is exactly why I wouldn't choose it - it screams "you can't hit me" to this 10 hcp player while the T200 is whispering soothing reassurance and forgiveness in my ear. I think new P790 vs T200 is the test we're all waiting for.
I have to say, i do not agree. The blade look is very appealing to me. I hit a 7 iron at my local shop, it feels great. And i was hitting it pure and straight.
P790 brushed finished is so ugly. Not sure why they went the route of making it look like a Ping iron. The brushed finish would also make it difficult to blend aesthetically with the 770. T200 badge is rough but at address that club is so clean. And the T200 blended with the 100s aesthetically at address is almost a perfect match.
I just went through a full-blown fitting and found the Titleist irons to be the best. They were just amazing to hit and the distance, control and feel were first rate!
My favorite irons in the past were Titleist AP2 716, so still like the size of the head and not much offset. So, after researching this site and 5 or 6 others I decided on T200 or P770, leaned towards T200 as they were longer and not much bigger than AP2. Just found some slightly used ones 3 days ago, bought them. Took them out yesterday and got a hole in one on a short par 3 with the P, so off to a good start.
I just got fitted and I hit the T200 so amazing and smooth. The back cover doesn’t bother me at all. It actually adds to the beauty and streamline of the iron after all I don’t hit the ball with the back cover. 🤷🏾♂️
Me too. Just way more consistent with the P770s. I honestly thought I would walk away with the Titleist, until right at the end we decided to try the P770s and 4/5 perfect shots later I went with them. I was just in so much more control for little to no yardage loss...
Absolutely love my p770s.. they don’t quite feel as good as my old set of p750s which were fully forged but easily got used to the feel.. the flight the sound the looks and the progressive forgiveness through the set has made a massive difference
I JUST bought the same set after a fitting. Haven't come in yet, but boy am I excited to try them out on the course. Is the feel change between the 8 and 7 irons something that bothers you? I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about it.
No issue for me…I could probably have pushed and hit a P7MC 7i but I want the front to back dispersion that 770 gives me, I think on average it helps me a lot hitting greens from 165ish out
Still gaming a hybrid mix of P790’s and Cleveland Turbo HB’s. So I would probably game the P770’s in this case. Still have a set of AP3’s in the garage. Can’t part with them and yet I don’t reach for them when I leave to the course. But they feel so great in the yard.
I would game the club that performs best when I have a fitting at precision golf soon. I'm drawn towards these two models so this video was perfect. I might not end up with either that said. I really liked this video, no coffee maker, no Mrs and kids (as nice as they are) and no car journeys. Just great content and presentation, well done!
Ordered a set of t100s a week and half ago. I also hit those 200, almost made me switched to game it from prior t100s that’s in my bag. Those t200 are effortless.
When I was fitted for new irons earlier this summer I tested both 790 Taylormade and titleist t200, they where more or less equal, but I preferred the t200. But by coincidence I also tested the 770s and they actually had a much nicer feel and looks so much better so I bought them instead 5-PW, but thinking about buying a 4 and 5 from t200 or 790 to get that extra forgiveness with the longer irons.
I am looking for new irons. The Titleist are on my list to test and possibly get fitted. Either T100S or T200. Might take a look at the Taylormade as well. Haven’t played Taylormade in years.
I tested both of those along with the Callaway Apex but went for the Mizuno JPX921 in forged and 5/6 iron in hot metal pro. The T200 looks like a bit of plastic will fall out the back the TM were very nice but better grips shafts all upgrades were extras Mizuno all in regardless of shaft or grip.
Golfing at public courses, I see more Mizuno irons than anything else in players bags, eventhough on the PGA tour, few players are sponsored by Mizuno.
I would game the set that tested better for my game. Based on looks, the TM. Based on your numbers, the T200. Too close to call without testing them for myself. Looking forward to it though along with Apex Pro, 21, ZX7 and 921 Tour. Happy days!!!
Mark….some of the TM 700 series…which say ‘forged’…the hosel I tried to drill out to remove weight….were very hard…couldn’t drill any weight out. Next tried to bend the hosel….could not budge it…my take….the hosel is not seen to be forged but a cheaper material tube, spun welded into the head. Can’t compare with Titleist or Mizuno fully forged heads….hope I’m wrong…
that Taylormade is gooooood lookin. personally I would probably be more interested in the P790s if I were on the market, but like you say, shop appeal, the P770 is best in category, would even put it up with some blades for looks in the bag.
Nice review Mark, P770 for me but I’m biased as recently bought them & find them great. Interested to see P770 vs new P790 - watched 1 review so far & 790 17 yards further with a steeper descent angle, albeit 770 spins more & is less strongly lofted
I'm a srixon zx player but taylormade p770 & p790 also took my interest at the time of my fitting. I will be demoing the new p790s as they are truely stunning looking irons and I'm really wanting to bag these if I'm honest
Thanks Mark...great review. For me, I'd probably be comparing the T200 w/ the TM P790. At my age (66), I'm looking for a little more distance. Not sure of the loft difference between P770 and P790 -- but I'm guessing the P790 is similar to the T200. Agree w/ your comment the T200 badge -- not very attractive.
I gamed them both for approx 3 months each, and for me, the T200 is a lot more accurate and about 10 yards longer. So it was a no brainer. The T200 won out. Plus I think that they look amazing.
Don’t let marks comments on that scare ya. The t200 are absolutely gorgeous and you never notice the insert which is there for a purpose. Like mark is going overboard with the tapping of the insert… how many times have you ever ever ever tapped the back of your club? The forgiveness and performance that clubs gives is the best right now in its category.
As much as I like both these irons -- still the Srixon ZX7s all day long here -- thx to Hideki for getting Srixon to return to the fully notched VT sole on them -- that sole design has single handedly transformed my iron play (for the better, much better) -- cheers
I'm a magpie, so I love bright shiny new irons no matter what brand. Question, how is that "plasticky" insert going to hold up in the bag as it gets clanked around or does does it come with iron covers?
Have tried the P770 and its great. Would like to try the T200, although I also think its a bit ugly, but performance counts, but must admit I loooooove the P770, and was proposed to combine with P790 in the long irons (4 and 5), and maybe even the P7MC in the short irons (9 and PW).
P770, A solid chunk of loveliness!👌 waiting for a custom set, but looks like at least 7 weeks delivery time.. Titelist not better, 7 weeks in but still no wedges.. seems like either company wants you to order custom.. they just want to build standard specs and sell them in larger quantity’s..
I have the p770s and picked them over the titleist because although performance was similar, the sound feel and look made all the difference. I need to feel excited when I pull out my irons and the titleist just wouldn't do that for me. Great video though.
I play P770's. I tried T200/T100S and the P770, the P770 looks the best, and felt great. The Titleist was really good but the Taylormade was the club for me. I also found myself seeing that the T100s is more comparable as far as distances club for club. The T200 lofts are really strong, with the 44 degree PW it made setting in some iron gapping harder. I liked the P770 at 46 degree PW which let me use a 50/54/60 vs a 48/54/60 with Titleist.
Not a taylormade fan, but I would game the taylormade over the titleist purely because the titleist plastic feel of the insert. I am a big fan of titleist and currently have them in the bag but no plans of changing just yet.
Just got fitted, JPX921 forged was a contender or leader til I hit the P770 felt great after miss hitting the first shot took the lead actually. Then I hit the new 790, these clubs look similar at address but the forgiveness of the 790 was very noticeable. I hit the 790 14 yards farther then the 770. I also tested the T200 and it just wasn’t working for me which is a disappointment as I was very hopeful on this club as well as Mizuno. But in the end I went with the numbers and feel. I ended up hitting the 790 20 yards longer then my current mp 53’s. Crazy .. looking forward for these new 2021 P790 clubs to arrive so I can start working on my wedge gapping.
Titleist was stronger loft but still hit higher than the 770, so same run out even with lower spin due to decent angle. I’d say that a win for the titleist due to longer distance and same stopping power.
The TM's definitely shade it on looks. But if you take the Titleist T100S into consideration and use the T200 to blend a set that then becomes a more versatile option than the straight P770's. But with the performance so close, it's the looks of the P770's that would take it for me if the choice was purely P770 vs T200.
T200 better performer with dry ball data but p770 much better looks and feel. Need to consider golf conditions though... Low spin might be harder to control, especially from rough.
See myself using either in some kind of combo set. Hell, could with most brands since the available options are so good right now. The winner of all these tests is the customer.
I currently playing srixon z585 and knocking strokes off my hdcp down to a 14 from a 17. I got my z585s when I was a 20 hdcp. Do you think these irons are better suited for a 12-14 hdcp???
I haven’t hit these 2 irons but IMO titleist makes better irons they feel better to me and the performance has always been close so that’s enough for me to go get titleist I still have srixon 765 I might upgrade for next golf season
Mark have a read on what standard deviation actually means. For the Titleist it means 68% of your shots are 1 yard (or within 1 SD) on the mean. Some shots be outside that. That said, unbelievably consistent club (and player)
@MeandMyStaffy blades are for elite ball strikers… I’ve played them for 6 years now.! The sweet spot is tiny because of how true blades are designed. As a fitter I see this all the time. I challenge you to take many many “good ball strikers” put them in blades vs T200 and the dispersion is gonna be 100x better with the T200.. there’s a reason not even most pros use blades anymore.
@MeandMyStaffy you said cb/mb and those still have a tiny sweet spot with a bit of more perimeter weighting… Anyways, the clubs you mentioned are not even close to the same category as these in the video lol so i don’t even know why you brought them up.. 😂
@MeandMyStaffy again. You’re just making yourself sound dumb man. You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about lmao. I play titleist 620mb/cb combo set. I just ordered T100/T200 combo. Again to the main point… none mb/cb set is comparable to hollow body construction irons. 😂 so you’re the one making yourself look super silly. Or you’re just completely oblivious to things lol
I would use t200 only because I would want to blend and I don't like the p790. I would want to blend more forgiveness 4-6 then 7 iron below in the smaller heads. Probably +1 degree loft
Great video mark, thx so much for all your efforts to help make our decisions more informed . Always enjoy your straight up analysis, WOW, these are the two clubs Im considering . There 12 weeks out to order, i loved my AP2s for 7 years, I like the feel and look aspect of the P770, Taylor made will bend them 2 degrees strong, which I really would like to be hitting 1 to 2 clubs less coming into therein. Do you think that bending these strong would change the dynamics of the club to much ? Or they would retain all the feel, and just go a bit further, thx for your feed back. respectfully.
I would game the Titleist. I haven’t seen them in reality but I don’t think the polymer back plate would bother me visually. My concern would be marking easily in the bag and looking shabby in a short amount of time. Do they feel scratch resistant and durable?
If.. I had to pick between those 2, and even though I'm Not a fan of TM, due to 2 failures of TM drivers, and I game Titleist irons, I'd go with the TM clubs. I am looking for new irons, I doubt these 2 would be in my testing.
Taylormade hands down over t200. T100s over p770. I hit all 3 for a good hour of testing.I was wanting the t200 but they missed the mark in feel sound and looks.Performance wise its just like any other club if you find the center of club but there wasn't much of a feeling in t200. I felt the t100s were easier to hit and im not the best ball striker.P770 were right up there.Good feel good performance and forgiveness.
I would definitely go with the P770, even if that in the TM range, I'd more likely go the P7.MC route; To me, I don't want distance in my irons, I want feel and spin. And the 33° P770 7iron is already a bit too strong compared with my 35° 7irion, plus they still feel a blt "clicky" and "hollow" compared to my CBs... However, I think that when I'm past 60 and almost certainly loosing distance, I might be tempted by these sort of clubs, to (partially) resist father time.
I have thought the P770 were the best looking player iron since they debuted. But I wonder about the 770 vs the Calloway (I'm honestly not sure which Calloway they compete with).
I think new P790 vs T200 is the test we're all waiting for.
agreeeeed especially with those brand new 790s seeming to fly 10-15' higher than predecessors
I have to say, i do not agree. The blade look is very appealing to me. I hit a 7 iron at my local shop, it feels great. And i was hitting it pure and straight.
Agree!
They were just amazing to hit and the distance, control and feel were first rate!
yea, mark is just picking sound over everything so ofc he would like taylormade
My favorite irons in the past were Titleist AP2 716, so still like the size of the head and not much offset. Just found some slightly used ones 3 days ago, bought them. Took them out yesterday and got a hole in one on a short par 3 with the P, so off to a good start.
Titleist makes the best irons of those two, but they both make excellent! I would say that Mizuno and Miura also some of the best irons.
I think it would be better to compare the T200 with the new P790. Then the T100S with the P770.
In all actuality the T300 not 200 would be a better comparison with the p790 when it comes to distance, height and address aesthetics.
@@dakota7770 I'd actually put the T300 against the SIM Max irons then the T400 against the SIM Max OS.
Meh, to each his own. But that would be a good comparison of loft and launch characteristics. P790 is a game improvement iron in a hollow body shape
I just got fitted and I hit the T200 so amazing and smooth. The back cover doesn’t bother me at all. It actually adds to the beauty and streamline of the iron after all I don’t hit the ball with the back cover. 🤷🏾♂️
After testing both clubs at local store, I bought the p770. Felt that they gave me way more confidence on miss strikes over the t200.
Me too. Just way more consistent with the P770s. I honestly thought I would walk away with the Titleist, until right at the end we decided to try the P770s and 4/5 perfect shots later I went with them. I was just in so much more control for little to no yardage loss...
I found the exact opposite, Titleist to be a tighter dispersion and better on misses than p770
Absolutely love my p770s.. they don’t quite feel as good as my old set of p750s which were fully forged but easily got used to the feel.. the flight the sound the looks and the progressive forgiveness through the set has made a massive difference
Bought a combo set of P7MC (PW-8) and P770 (7-5) back end of last year. P770 1* weak lofts for gapping. Lovely clubs, super performance
I JUST bought the same set after a fitting. Haven't come in yet, but boy am I excited to try them out on the course. Is the feel change between the 8 and 7 irons something that bothers you? I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about it.
No issue for me…I could probably have pushed and hit a P7MC 7i but I want the front to back dispersion that 770 gives me, I think on average it helps me a lot hitting greens from 165ish out
Year later but I’m curious on why you went with a 770/p7mc combo instead of a t200/t100s combo
For me, Srixon. Was just fit for ZX5. Sole design so good for my swing.
I already game the P770 absolutely love them.
It would be interesting to see a comparison between the T200 and the P790, as the lofts are very similar.
Have been fitted for T200 T100s combo set and eagerly awaiting delivery 😀👍🏻
Still gaming a hybrid mix of P790’s and Cleveland Turbo HB’s. So I would probably game the P770’s in this case. Still have a set of AP3’s in the garage. Can’t part with them and yet I don’t reach for them when I leave to the course. But they feel so great in the yard.
Deciding between P750, P7MC, but you made a P770 believer outta me... Thanks!
It would be Taylormade every single time from these. If the performance is so close, how could you not go for the sexy looks?
I would play the P770s. Love the look of them. But equally if I got fitted for both and titleist performs better I’m going with those!
Ordered a set of t100s a week and half ago. I also hit those 200, almost made me switched to game it from prior t100s that’s in my bag. Those t200 are effortless.

Unless it's their pure blade the P770, the rest only have a forged face stuck to cast head.
I think I was working on 1 of the 790 versions…
that Taylormade is gooooood lookin. personally I would probably be more interested in the P790s if I were on the market, but like you say, shop appeal, the P770 is best in category, would even put it up with some blades for looks in the bag.
I like the look of P770. Like you said, if testing can get bent 1 degree stronger.
Trick question. Srixon makes the best irons for the money IMO
Nice review Mark, P770 for me but I’m biased as recently bought them & find them great. Interested to see P770 vs new P790 - watched 1 review so far & 790 17 yards further with a steeper descent angle, albeit 770 spins more & is less strongly lofted
I did go with Taylor Made P770 when I was fitted the other day
The TM looks 👍. Have to be stunning to drag me away from Mizuno though.
I was always told Mizuno makes the best Irons, Just picked up a st200 today cant wait to try it out!
Just got the T200 for my 4,5,6 and T-100s for 7-P. Great feel for my scoring clubs and distance for my tee/recovery clubs
Exactly what I'm intending to get. Sorts out the loft gaps in the T200. Are the T200's noticeably easier to hit?
@@marcsimmonds7814 Definitely were much better on mishits. The distance wasn’t much better but when is missed off the toe still ended up a good shot

I really really wanted the TMs as love the look but ended up with mizuno 921s because of feel and foregiveness
What golfer is the 770 for? +15 handicap but want room for improvement but also forgiveness
What impact screen are you using here, the best set up I have seen by far!!
Not a taylormade fan, but I would game the taylormade over the titleist purely because the titleist plastic feel of the insert. I am a big fan of titleist and currently have them in the bag but no plans of changing just yet.

Take a look at Sub 70 TAIII Irons. Beautiful, great feeling set of irons at a great price.
I game the 770 1 degree stronger. Love the feel and control
I have the same set up, I’m really loving these clubs
I'm probably the only one rocking with Wilson Staff Model blades in this comment section but I love them lol
Id go for the Taylor made, Mark. But the 790 might be better for me anyway.
Titleist was stronger loft but still hit higher than the 770, so same run out even with lower spin due to decent angle. I’d say that a win for the titleist due to longer distance and same stopping power.
I've hit both and I would go with the P770.
I would definitely go with feel and sound so it would be TaylorMade for me. Nice swing by they way Mark!
I feel like the P770 is more competing with the T100 or T100S vs the T200 but that is just my opinion.
Yeah that is fair.
Definitely P770 vs T100S. I’m not brand bias I love my P770. Came from Wilson V6 tour irons which were also top performers.
The TM's definitely shade it on looks. But if you take the Titleist T100S into consideration and use the T200 to blend a set that then becomes a more versatile option than the straight P770's. wonder how the T100S and New P790 compare
"I would game... the best one for me, after testing. I'm not in the market for new irons but if I were, then these two would be on my list.

I haven’t hit these 2 irons but IMO titleist makes better irons they feel better to me and the performance has always been close so that’s enough for me to go get titleist I still have srixon 765 I might upgrade for next golf season
P770 for looks I would say, and it plays same distance as my current irons.
I went with apex pro instead of 770…. I tried the tities T100-s and would go there.
Will try the 200 soon , i’ll get back to you
T200 is gorgeous
the distance consistency of the T200s would have me on them at the mid-video point
The P7MB and MC from Taylormade are quite possibly nicest irons ever
Yeah, but they don’t go very far....
@@christopherwhitehead8946 They do when you change the numbers on the bottom...
Ping for me but I like these two as well.
Taylor Made, that back on the Titleist is a killer
The video we all needed. Well done
Mark have a read on what standard deviation actually means. For the Titleist it means 68% of your shots are 1 yard (or within 1 SD) on the mean. Some shots be outside that.
That said, unbelievably consistent club (and player)
Thats assuming a normal distribution.
I would game the P770s... because I do. The T200 look good though
I play Titleist AP2s, but I would definitely go P770 just on looks alone! Haha
Nice vid as usual, Howabout a specialist wedge review - would love to hear your thoughts on Cleveland Smart Sole??
Wilson staff model cb/mb combo… look as good as any of these, perform just as well and are way cheaper!
That’s an entire different range for the elite ball strikers lol but yes the wilson blades are stunning
@MeandMyStaffy you said cb/mb and those still have a tiny sweet spot with a bit of more perimeter weighting…
Anyways, the clubs you mentioned are not even close to the same category as these in the video lol so i don’t even know why you brought them up.. 😂
@MeandMyStaffy you’ll probably reply with some silly reply and I’ll just continue to laugh at you.
Shouldn’t you compare T100 and P770? I feel like T200 is more equivalent to the new P790, which looks fantastic btw.
Just bought the P770 so a good video to watch
Are these comparable to the Mizuno HMBs ?
I’d go with the best grouping, therefore the titleist! Probably blend it with the T100s p-6i.
Was your strike lower on the face with the t200 giving a different feel ?
I would game the Taylor made. The looks would be enough to sway me assuming they are priced similarly.
Of those two I’d definitely pick Callaway! #lockeyarmy
If.. I had to pick between those 2, and even though I'm Not a fan of TM, due to 2 failures of TM drivers, and I game Titleist irons, I'd go with the TM clubs. I am looking for new irons, I doubt these 2 would be in my testing.
Should have tested the new P790 vs T200. Only 1/2 degree difference in loft. Both player distance irons.
Constantly amazed by loft differences in new clubs vs my Cleveland 588CB. These two 7i are basically my 6i. Just seems odd!
what happens if you put T100s into the mix?
Are titleist now marketing garden implements, sole look fairly wide?
New p790 I think would get my vote.
Isn't the P770 vs T100 a better comparison?
