Crushed it! Since my son is becoming my assistant on events, I show him the troubleshooting you do in real time and its an invaluable training aid, so thank you for always showing what issues you come across! And... even though the beta 52 isn't my main kick mic, if I have an issue I always use that as a back up and it always works great! Stay safe and happy new year!
Thanks John - we want to keep it real and mistakes and problems are a part of every gig. My saying is that nothing is a problem until it's a problem and there will always be problems... so it's about how your resolve them is where experience comes in and always keeping your cool.

Hello from South Africa!! 🇿🇦 i love seeing what you both are doing in these videos 😊 I've been watching and liking all your videos since I got recommended this channel by UA-cam. Keep it up Stacy and Bart!! Can't wait to see more content!! 🤗❤️

I really love seeing those soft cases and bags instead of hard or flight case. They are lightweight, protect the gear pretty well, and scratch free. For some equipment it really helps more in the case of small transport and small crew member.
Appreciate your insights...we used to carry more road cases, but as we scaled down and became more modular, soft cases made more sense to us...please check out this video for more perspective: ua-cam.com/video/jT-Eycnrxws/v-deo.html

Not quite what I was looking for, but very informative. I know lifting that subwoofer was not as easy as you made it look, those woofers are very heavy. I was looking at how to set up several speakers at once and found this. I did learn something though. Thank you.
Ô lá sou Leandro sou Brasileiro do Estado do Pará trabalho com sonorização, gostei muito da forma que vocês trabalham, aprendi muito com vocês, obrigado Parabéns!👋👋👋👋
Nice job. I do a LOT of events like this with similar bands (I think I have a video or two of my setup). I’d combine your rack gear into a single 12sp on wheels, that’s another thing you don’t have to lift. Load subs first, stacked, any racks behind, fill in with speakers. Use a magline for a cart. I’d even use a single 15/2” to cut down on main speakers (less to carry). Efficiency is everything
Love your channel. When I have a loaded rock n roller cart I find it easier to push with the smaller steering castor wheels behind. Easier to control corners etc. :)
Was fun watching. After doing sound/lighting/backline/pyro-technics for 40+ years. I don't miss the long hours. While guests are eating steak and lobster. Promoters will inevitably end up giving us hideous box meals. Always pack protein bars, granola and plenty of H2O. ✌️❤️ and 👍 keep doing what you love.
I don't know much about Presonus also because in Italy as a brand it is not very widespread but I really like how you have organized yourself in terms of wiring and connections, also because when you find yourself having to manage a stage by yourself and also having to take care of assembling and disassembling everything in time reasonably fast, if you are not organized well, you are in for big problems. I really appreciate your way of working.

Yup... we've got those jokers in Canada too... I did a gig recently where they provided PA, and it was a shit show.... barely found enough XLR, PA was wired up wrong, 1 of the cabs had a blown tweeter, wasn't a decent mic stand in sight... all that and I was stuck mixing on their shitty soundcraft SI impact.
Man! You Guys are too much! We really appreciate comments like this as seriously, we weren't expecting this type of feedback. Glad you enjoy them, and we have more in the works!
Great set up!!! This is what started back playing keyboards! I was doing full set ups like this to include full lights!!! The money was good tho but me and my wife was running hard!!!!!!
Appreciate the content, I enjoyed every bit of it. For those unaware, any event like this should, would likely have an event coordinator/manager that's a single point of contact for everything... regardless how big or little. Also, an event document should've been generated and distributed ... detailing each relevant element of importance. Load in/load out accommodations, parking details, security, room setup, pipe and drape, electrical needs, internet needs, trash cans and housekeeping, food/beverage, etc. Also, typically there's house phones whereby one can contact a central dispatch operation to facilitate getting one what they need. Regarding the parking of your van, the event document would state, "after load in, Pro Audio contractor will park adjacent to loading dock B" ... for example. Or "at the conclusion of X the lecturn is to be struck from downstage right". It's worth noting, just as they mentioned in the vid, indoor loading docks are wonderful, for a variety of reasons! One standout impression of mine, after just now discovering your channel and viewing this one... I saw nobody around the back of house area. My only guess a slow night with a modestly attended event... Much appreciated
Details and a plan are so subjective and how much work people elect to put into them....we still occasionally irritate event planners on what would be the most basic of questions. We are lucky (by design) that we are pretty self sufficient.....we should have just left the lectern on stage!
BTW, I use Mastercraft boxes from Menards for my cabling. They lock into each other, and the bottom box has wheels and a handle! Milwaukee, Ryobi and others make similar boxes. I overstack 6 boxes on each other! Serious time saver!
Hi Bart, I agree with you about the Shure Beta 52A, I have used just about every "kick" mic available including old vintage AKG D12, EV RE20, AKG D12E, Audix D6, Sennheiser 902 and all of them work and do the job, BUT,,,, to me, the Beta 52A is the only mic that can be used without any EQ and it always sounds really nice. Always enjoyable to watch you guys! Here's to a PROSPEROUS New Year!!!!!!!!!for all of us :)
Thanks...in the end they are just tools and it's more about how you use them..but the 52 is a tool that makes me get the sound I want more than any other mic I have used...your list is a bit longer than mine :)

Greetings from Down Under! I love the CDL rig. We run SL312AI, SL18S AI and SL328AI over Dante a lot of the time. Nice to see the issues we all face in our industry are global. Enjoyed your video.
Thanks a lot for the compliment....our channel has grown lately and that is nice, but not our primary goal. It's more about trying provide useful information through our story and hopefully help others out along the way! Wish we would of done it years ago as there are gigs I am sure that will never be repeated again...those were the hungry years but now we can be selective of who we work with.
Thank you! This is our second one after the first broke and axel after many solid years. This one has the solid tires, which is cool that they are maintenance free and they are wider as well. Does a great job but doesn't roll quite as easily the pneumatic tires did.
Thanks Tony! It's always a balancing act as to what we include in our videos and not make them 3 hours long....so we try to capture the key elements to paint the whole picture and point out interesting things that pop up.
Does presonus not have double 18” subs ? Or did you chose single 18” because it’s easier to lug around? Also any difference in sound quality? 2x single 18” vs double 18”?
PreSonus doesn't offer a dual 18" model. We used to own several dual 18's" EAW cabinets. When we scaled down to a more modular system, going with single 18" for us so we had more options. Sonically, I don't think there is a huge difference...it's more about factoring the logistics of a single vs. double.
Congrats! I have only seen a display unit of an QU-16. Seems like a good console, but it's not a rack mixer. This format for us saves an incredible amount of time as everything remains hooked up and we just pull the covers and go!
Hi, I wanted to share a concern regarding the speaker setup. I'm convinced that the tops are set too low in basically every video you do. The bottom speakers shoot directly at the ear level, meaning that the closest standing people get very high impact while basically shielding the people behind them from the sound source and impacting its characteristics especially in the higher end of the sound spectrum. And the top speakers shoot the majority of their projection at the ceiling. I believe the ideal set up would be to raise the tops altogether by at least one head hight and angle the array downward to achieve more even coverage.
PreSonus CDL manual: WARNING: Maximum pole height from the top of the upper CDL18s to the bottom of the CDL12 cannot exceed 17”. PreSonus recommends the K&M 21334.050.55 Distance Rod. So this is what we use. Understand your concern, but to the best of my knowledge, we have never received a complaint and they perform well for us. At times, it would be nice to get higher when on two subs (regardless of what the manual says), but besides my lack of height now becoming a challenge, we are unaware of any speaker pole that could accomplish this safely. Each cabinet has a vertical throw of 20 degrees, so the looks of the cabinets may be deceiving as well. The CDL 12's have two mounting positions for single or double stacking and those are your options.
Your 2 are absolutely awesome and praying Gods blessings upon you both and praying that you have Jesus in your hearts. I love your equipment and your expertise at doing sound. As you know you cannot please everybody all the time when it comes to sound there is always someone who will complain about something and that is just part of it. Just curious what is the charge or cost for a venue like this one?
Appreciate the comment and for you taking the time to watch! Our pricing really varies from the type of gig and clients and are mostly offered and negotiated from there. Sometimes it turns out well, and sometimes we can feel pretty beat up. We would like to be charging a premium for every gig, but the reality states that's never going to happen.
Thank you!! Stacy and I have let COVID hit us a bit on the conditioning side, but we are getting back into shape and working out is part of our gig routine! We are committed to getting stronger for 2022 and thankfully, neither of us have back issues.
@@thesoundcouple Nice gig log, another way to save your back for the future is, to push not pull. Chiropractor explained it to me. Also bend down like a baby, instead of bending over. I started taking the doctors advice and i have had no back issues in five years. I always bend at the knee and squat down to pick anything up and i always push my carts. The injury to the back comes after you done all the bending and pulling. It could be a week after, you might just cough and bring on a back injury or sneeze or bend over to put on a shoe. The damage was done weeks ago from pulling something or bending to pick up a cable. Good luck this year and good health.
nice set up... Do you always set up your Audio in front, I try to set up big audio all the way to the back or top front subs on the corner, so you can't see all those boxes. how's that dispersion on those tops, can't remember but they do have a very wide coverage right. nice set up... 👌👍
Thanks for your comments! it depends on the gig, but we will either set up off to the side of stage, or out front where it's logistically possible. The CDL's cover very nice. I would suggest you check out a couple of other videos we did that we touch on both of your comments: ua-cam.com/video/ftzx_EsBLuQ/v-deo.html. ua-cam.com/video/iK-WH0wueoM/v-deo.html
"Horn guy will bring his own mic" *He didn't.* lol that one is so classic. Let that be a lesson to everyone watching, if you're a sound person just be prepared to take care of everything yourself, and if you're a musician, if you say you're going to do something, please DO it.
What's really funny is that at the previous gig, he was taking ours off the stand to put his on....so we can't win. We are always prepared and that is sort of the way we fly....but I have worked for others, more in the A/V world, if it ain't on the sheet, they ain't getting it.
@@thesoundcouple Yeah sometimes ya can’t win for losin’. I am a musician/bandleader first and sound guy second. We always supply our own PA for band gigs, and I’ve done PA for bands other than my own too, I just wish musicians had more of a grasp on the sound side and in some cases I wish the sound guys had more of a grasp on the playing side. It’s like you said “the left hand doesn’t talk to the right hand” sometimes. It’s can be a bit of a herding cats situation trying to run a tight ship with so many different types of characters out there. I commend you both!
Live sound reinforcement for small venues has come a long way since I did it in the late 70's through the early 90's. But I will say this: I would never rely on a wireless connection for anything except wireless mics in a pro gig, and I was never happy about doing that. The ability to walk around and change the mix is cool though. Never had that back in the day!
You got me thinking about the first time I officially "ran sound". I actually remember I was about 11 years old which would have been around '78.....then there was the school bands, etc, but it wasn't until 1998 that I guess it kind of stuck.
The CDL’s are fixed position with 2 mounting positions depending on cabinet configuration. Each cabinet has a 20 degree vertical coverage so that’s what you get. We are happy with their coverage and performance.
Great job Bart👍 love your content may I ask you a question: how did you fix that boomy kick drum which can be heard at about 16:20? I saw that it was in the FOH mix later on and it fit perfectly in the mix without that booming Greetings from Germany/Bavaria
I can't recall technically what we did here...and we probably did (perhaps a cut in 50-60Hz). However, an empty room will always sound different. In some cases, the room will change with more bodies and more heat, or these transient frequencies will become lost as the noise floor increases. So it's a balance of knowing how much change to address at this time. I find myself sometimes adding back what I took away during soundcheck!
I noticed you broadcast your SSID for your access point. Why? Both from a security and a “your AP doesn’t have to ping devices constantly with its wifi info” standpoint, it’s best to leave it off, and any device you want to connect can have the SSID manually put in
Hello I have a question about speaker height in a small party. Let's say it is only a family's gathering of 10 to 25 people tops in small backyard party. Do you actually need to set the speakers at 7 to 9 feet in height , knowing that there is no audience way in the back and all guess are just withing 10 to 15 feets of the music . Can I lower the height so I don't have to increase so much amp power on the speakers or what is the
May we suggest you check out Michael Curtis? His channel focus's more on technical aspects of system design and placement. He has a video that covers your exact question! ua-cam.com/video/OeaMtRvIysM/v-deo.html
Nice vid and great system! Will say for myself as a professional musician tho, I'm not a fan of corporate and hotel gigs. Even tho they usually pay pretty damn well. Give me a seedy dive bar where I can turn it up and let loose.
Being a hybrid speaker half array/half point source do these throw sound out pretty far like a line array at a concert when stacking 2 up? I see you have them in large conference rooms and outdoor bands on dual sub stacks. Looking into buying 4 of them if so! Or is there a pretty hard cutoff point when you're far back? Thanks!
Good question but hard to answer since it's all relative. To the best of my opinion, I believe the cabinets throw pretty well without a hard cut. I have demonstrated in some videos that we can be around 100dB at over 100 ft out. I would believe that a true line array would work better, but the tradeoff is the work it takes to accomplish that. Our gigs don't require it and the budgets are certainly not there for us to justify the investment in a true line array. These cabinets for us fill that middle ground where we are able to get the job done and everyone is happy.
Enjoying the channel! Do you have any recommendations on a set of smaller speakers? I do event videos and sometimes get requested to bring PA, so usually end up renting but figured I might as well buy a pair. Mostly speech in smaller venues (50-150 ppl max) so nothing crazy. Nothing too expensive either because I'll probably stick to renting bigger and better if there's live music involved. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching our videos! I am a bit hesitant to offer gear recommendations as there are a lot of good offerings. I would start first with determining your requirements and then research who best can meet those. So some considerations are: Price/weight/powered vs. non-powered, DSP options, built in mixer (how many channels, tone/volume controls), connectivity (e.g. Bluetooth, RCA, 1/4"), speaker size, and these days....Availability!! Another big consideration is whether the speaker will do the mixing or you will use an external mixer. If you are using an external mixer, then buying a speaker with more back panel functionality can become redundant. Also, I would highly recommend buying at least a soft cover for any speaker. It's amazing how much they save the cabinets from scratches and keeps them looking good..if that's something that's important to you.
@@thesoundcouple Alright, thanks for the great explanation on what to look for! I'd love to see you guys do some buyers guide videos. There are plenty of product reviews out there but I rarely see people using their expertise to explain what to look for in a certain product category - something like what you just did in your reply. Thanks again, cheers from Sweden!
Do you guys always use right and left sub placement? How to deal with power alleys/valleys that this can cause? Do you ever use centre sub placement? Thanks
Yes, typically we do place our subs L/R over mains. Alleys/valleys are just part of results of all factors that go into the decisions we make on system placement. Typically for these types of shows or smaller rooms, it's simply not an overly consuming issue. For bigger shows, we will typically add center sub fills to compensate.

Thanks, I do appreciate that and hopefully you will enjoy our future content.
Nice mix and it's awesome
Thank you!
Greetings from Down Under! I love the CDL rig. We run SL312AI, SL18S AI and SL328AI over Dante a lot of the time. Nice to see the issues we all face in our industry are global. Enjoyed your video.
That's so cool! Hope you are able to share more stories with us!
great job,and a nice setup, and that band played well
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
You guys always come thru with a great show nice
We do our best to pull through...we have had some close calls over the years!
very nice sir Iam all so PA system superb for u r video Ramesh from India
Thanks and welcome!
I'm a DJ and I have to say these Gig Log are interesting.. New Sub!
Thank you! Thanks for peeking into the dark side! We check out some of the DJ logs as well. It’s interesting to see how everyone works.
@@thesoundcouple thanks
Nice setup sir! Line array wow!
I think it's nice to DJ with that thing!
It will do that too!
You deserve more view, I appreciate your work and love your channel, keep it up ❤️
Thanks a lot for the compliment....our channel has grown lately and that is nice, but not our primary goal. It's more about trying provide useful information through our story and hopefully help others out along the way! Wish we would of done it years ago as there are gigs I am sure that will never be repeated again...those were the hungry years but now we can be selective of who we work with.
love my rocking roller r16! I'm a dj and I have yet to learn how to mix a room. wish you more success in 2022.
Thank you! This is our second one after the first broke and axel after many solid years. This one has the solid tires, which is cool that they are maintenance free and they are wider as well. Does a great job but doesn't roll quite as easily the pneumatic tires did.
Great sound system 👌
Appreciate it...thanks!
Professional Sound system and make wonder.
Thanks!
I am from India ...I love your videos, keep up the good content
Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching! We have more coming soon!
Hello from the Philippines, i also have 328's and the presonus 32AI. I use a CS18 for FOH and an ipad
So cool to hear! We hope you can pick up a few tips!
I already know by looking at the sound check on the iPad that you are using a Presonus Studio Live mixer. I have one for the church and love it!
For sure...it's worked out well for us!
Keep up the good work. FYI, PSAV is Encore
Thank you! Yes, I believe they merged.
Veri nice sound sir madam ji

Shows start to finish good job
Thanks Tony! It's always a balancing act as to what we include in our videos and not make them 3 hours long....so we try to capture the key elements to paint the whole picture and point out interesting things that pop up.
Hola desde México. Very nice, great work. Congratulation
Thanks for watching!
Im a fan!!! your rig is awesome!!!
Thanks! We’ve had great success with this configuration.
Good to see you using Presonus equipment.
We have for years!
Sonically, I don't think there is a huge difference...it's more about factoring the logistics of a single vs. double.
I just ordered the same mixer! Replacing my A&H QU-16!
I also thought as much.
PreSonus CDL manual:
WARNING: Maximum pole height from the top of the upper CDL18s to the
bottom of the CDL12 cannot exceed 17”.
I like the setup 👌 😎 🇯🇲👍🎤🎹🎼🥁
Thank you!
Nice looking system! You guys hustle! I am a little worried about your back someday in the future.... Be safe
It's amazing sounds system very nice..
Thanks...we try our best to make every gig sound as good as possible!
nice set up...

"Horn guy will bring his own mic"
*He didn't.* lol that one is so classic.

Glad you enjoyed it and thank you!
Hi sir. how to adjust Eq for the Microphone so it Doesn't sound Muffled?hope you answer me.thanks alot
In general, you only want to start flat and perform subtractive EQ to address problem spots. A channel that is flat shouldn't have a muffled sound.
@@thesoundcouple thank you so much sir.cheers
Great job 💫💫
Appreciate the feedback! We try our best!
@@thesoundcouple For me it was '77. I was 13.
Do you guys have anybody in Worcester, Ma where audio live can be rented, set up and run?
@@edwardbannor8857 Hi Edward - no we don't. We are localized to our area.
It looks like the top mid/ hi pack is pointing up to the ceiling a bit too much.. can it be re- configured.. job’s a job though eh.. Cheers.🎶
The CDL’s are fixed position with 2 mounting positions depending on cabinet configuration. Each cabinet has a 20 degree vertical coverage so that’s what you get. We are happy with their coverage and performance.
Good job, love from Indonesia
Thank you!
👍👍👍I like your set up, keep it up,how much would cost for all equipment

great couple teamwork... quite a lot of heavy gears you got there. pls take extra care of your backs when lifting those speaker cabs.
Thank you! We take a lot of care in our backs. We are back into our workout routine and are feeling really good!
Great job Bart👍 love your content
may I ask you a question: how did you fix that boomy kick drum which can be heard at about 16:20?
I saw that it was in the FOH mix later on and it fit perfectly in the mix without that booming
Greetings from Germany/Bavaria
I can't recall technically what we did here...and we probably did (perhaps a cut in 50-60Hz). However, an empty room will always sound different. In some cases, the room will change with more bodies and more heat, or these transient frequencies will become lost as the noise floor increases. So it's a balance of knowing how much change to address at this time. I find myself sometimes adding back what I took away during soundcheck!
I noticed you broadcast your SSID for your access point. Why? Both from a security and a “your AP doesn’t have to ping devices constantly with its wifi info” standpoint, it’s best to leave it off, and any device you want to connect can have the SSID manually put in
Also, nice to see those presonus boxes in the field, I feel like I hardly see them anywhere!
Yes....we felt the same!
Ahhhh...guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one!
@@thesoundcouple On hiding the WiFi SSID...?

Agreed - If you check out are other videos, we do a wide variety of gigs which really helps to break things up and keeps it fresh.
And people wonder why I show up 3 hours minimum for a gig when I run sound! And my system isn't near as involved as yours!
Some of the time you never know what you're going to have to work around, never mind leaving enough time for traffic, or heaven forbid, a flat tire!
Beautiful set up. Would you mind sharing what main arrays you using here and what digital mixer are you using on Ipad? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for watching! We use PreSonus CDL12 for the array, and our mixer is PreSonus 32R with the UC surface software for iPad.
These cabinets for us fill that middle ground where we are able to get the job done and everyone is happy.
subscribed ,learned a lot s keep up , BTW what is the name of main speakers ? and subs ?
Cool! Our cabinets are PreSonus.
@@wilhelm_jonsson Good luck! I hope you are enjoying some of the culture aspects as well. There are many people here with Swedish roots!

Amazing set up, great band. Where did the audience go??
Ha Ha - It's sad when this happens.
I loved your content - congrats keep it up 👏👏👏👏 Pro Content 🪩🪩
