That college kid is unable to understand. Charlie said multiple times that college study for engineering and science are ok.
From a blue collar worker, if you are going to engineer something you should have to work on the thing after your done with it. Most notably auto engineering, design automobiles to be worked on!
Pulled 90k last year as a welder. NO college.
Elon Musk went to college, graduated with a physics degree and now makes $200million a month! I guess higher education does make a difference. That being said, most degrees are worthless, learning a trade is definitely a better way to go.
@Flynrat bill gates didn't graduate, mark Zuckerberg didn't graduate, pretty sure Elon was gonna be rich regardless, he was rich as a child
@@Flynratalso isnr Elon famous for hiring great minds with or without a degree?
If you're a good welder l, thanks for your work. If you're a bad welder, thanks but get better.

@@hegemonycricket2182 sure. The boy was asking him whether "all" colleges are scam or whether "some". He had a valid question which was followed by more valid questions. He even gave an example - Explain the human body anatomy. Charlie of course does not know that. You have to take a college degree and spend time with cadavers to learn the intricate details of a human body which can be taught only in colleges. But charlie did not conduct a professional debate with this boy...he talked over him and that sort of was very immature and incompetent of Charlie. The boy was genuine in his questions.
It's very disingenuous to ask someone to describe human anatomy. That makes no sense
My thoughts too! Such a strange thing to say.... NOT the got ya they wanted.
He was attempting a "gotcha moment" with one of the few courses that Charlie believes to be useful though this was before he knew this. I will say he used a poor example considering that kind of info can be learned at a library.

Describe psychology! What?
Tools that plumbers use are usually designed by the plumbers themselves in the field. Then somebody takes that idea and starts producing the tools
Engineers are absolutely necessary, but the ratio of engineers who design a system/blueprints to the plumbers actually hired to install that system is conservatively 10:1. We need more plumbers but we also need more engineers, we DONT in fact need social science majors most the time though, absolutely worthless
Main difference in the right and the left is the right talks with confidence and respect. The left talks with condescention and distain
Main difference in speaking. But I wouldn't say that's the main difference overall.
It's one of the many side affects of one's mental state.
I have a masters degree in Math/CS and can solve differential equations. In my 25+ years long career in tech I don't remember ever actually using that skill. Very bad example.
I got an a+ in diffy q. I couldn’t do one equation now. That stuff means nothing in the real world. What a stupid example to use lol
Over 60 and got married rite out of high school. I worked with my hands because I went through school with undiagnosed Dyslexia. My last 20yrs of employment allowed me to meet the point where you stop paying SS tax. Only certain workers know what that means. College became the Industry that replaced manufacturing after the politicians allowed it to leave our country. That's why the. Government took over the funding for college loans. It use to be a loan officer that denied your loan if you didn't have certain grades or showed no commitment. Now anyone can go to college and get a degree with no real work. I'm surprised they don't have a degree for watching tv or cereal preparation
I’m also surprised colleges don’t have a degree for playing video games. It would probably be more useful than a lot of college courses like gender studies, liberal arts, and gay and lesbian studies. REALLY??? The only place you’re going to find a job in one of those “careers” is teaching it to other suckers in another college because there are no real world uses for them. There are also people who make a career out of being a college student.

The “airplane” was invented by dudes who did not go to college.

every life saved by a doctor is the result of a kid going to college.
These kids don’t care about this point because for a lot of them..their parents pay their tuition. So they’re not feeling the debt
I used to think they were kidding when they would be like, "well do you xyz?" I stopped doing that like early grade school.
As a 5th year chef, the majority of culinary students I’ve worked with, albeit not everyone, had huge entitlement issues. As soon as the pressure got turned up, it was clear and frankly sad to see how many folks couldn’t handle working line during service on a busy night. It’s tough because even though they’re new to the restaurant, a lot of the time they feel they know better and have a hard time taking direction. On the positive note, I’ve definitely worked with solid students and have offered them jobs after school, but it’s definitely far and few between.

The plumber will never be without a job for his entire life.
This student will struggle to find work for his entire life.
"Can you do a differential equation?"
This kid missed the whole point. The issue is that most college students can't even do calculus 1. ALL my engineering courses were sausage fests, this included physics and math from calc1 to diffi-q's. So not only were engineering students a small minority even then the number of students, in my courses, usually dropped to about half before midterms. This was not only the case in engineering but also other math, science and coding related majors. He's making Charlie's point in that, the courses that are worth are damn compose of the minority of the student population.
Yep, you can't bull shit a calculus test. You either get it right or you get it wrong. Try explaining that to a liberal arts major.

College students who haven't been part of the working force yet, trying to tell people college is necessary to get a good job.
Odds are if your lucky you can get 4 year degree in 5 years. Main reason is you can't always get the classes you need to graduate in the 4 years.
The ultimate question is... "Is the juice worth the squeeze?". My opinion... Nope 🤔
Silly kids are so cocky to realize the difference between Knowledge and wisdom.
Theyve been told theyre special because they have a degree
I didn’t like the fact that they made me take art classes.
Seeing what is happening on the campuses today, can anyone claim it is not a scam and actually paid mind control?
You can hear/see the moment each one of them realize they have lost the argument. Sad that they never learned to think through both sides of an argument before engaging in the debate.
Differential equations, anatomy, and psychology are all things you learn in highschool.
I took differential equations as a junior in college. That’s a wild high school you went to. Calc 2 was the highest my high school went and that was an exception in my local area not the standard

God that first guy is the worst debater I’ve ever seen. He’s both wrong and terrible to listen to. He loses on all fronts.
Higher education is lit. The College system isn’t the best route though. There’s plenty of other outlets that one can access either way cheaper or flat out free that allow to expand on your learning. Trade schools that will basically guarantee work provided you’re studying the right thing and internships that let you learn as you get paid. Not to mention, nowadays it’s not WHAT you know, but rather WHO you know, that can get you opportunities for learning / working. Because let’s be honest, the motivator behind college is the supposed fact that you’ll land a high paying non blue collar job. That’s what everyone wants to get out of it mostly. Unfortunately that’s not the end result people are getting nowadays. The disparity is too huge to ignore. I’m glad I didn’t go and did a trade instead. Just the money being saved alone is a big reason to consider other options. Times are genuinely hard.
That’s because the colleges and the federal government are screwing people. The second the federal government took over subsidizing student loans tuition skyrocketed. Then colleges started offering majors and classes that are useless in the real world. You can get PhD’s in majors that the only place you can use them is teaching other suckers in other colleges who in turn teach them to more suckers in other colleges and on and on.
I just read an article locally about a lady who teaches art students how to sell their art through a local course that they never learned in college
My wife took time off work to raise our daughters. She did two degrees via the Open University at the same time. She now has her own company.
Regarding the Internet I've realised the easier information is accessible the less informed people have become. You can find out anything online yet people would rather be told everything and believe what they are told instead of finding the information themselves, and those people will attack and shutdown those of us who have made the effort if it goes against what they have been told.
Sales is the best job to get as a young person- Wish I got in sooner!
I have a bachelors degree and I’m one of the very few that actually use it. Most of my friends and family got jobs that the degrees were not even needed
Apparently, if I spin around, apparently I get dizzy. Apparently.
I think one of the biggest problems with college also is that 18-22 are literally supposed to be the prime years of your life and time is your most valuable resource in life.
Yikes on green shirt lmao.
You are a fine man, Jake. Love your videos, i share these with my friends all the time 😊
When will I use a "differential equation" in my life? Why does he think that is important. Thinking for yourself is far more important than anything he is saying.
You don't need college to learn how to perform differential equations, if you so desire.
There was a time when even the professions, law, medicine, engineering, and clergy didn't "require" college. College was the place one went to, if they could afford it, and they wanted to pursue knowledge and learn how to attain it. I work with professionals every day who all went to college, and rarely do I hear anyone mention something they learned there as being particularly useful. That said, the corporate mindset, i.e., "human resources" and management, is still very much ingrained in the collegial where it is difficult to advance beyond a certain level without having that fraternal experience.
Been in sales for a long time. It really does convert to real life experience
Wow the bubbles these kids live in.
With the advancement of online learning via A.I, the very concept of college is becoming more and more redundant.
Totally agree woth most of what you say, usually, but please don’t encourage more people to become telemarketers. We need less of those parasites calling me all day, not more.

Apparently kid is WAY cooler than that load.
The only flaw in the argument is that a “degree” is often required for a promotion, or is at least a tie breaker for upward mobility. If you lack a degree, and you’re of average intelligence and ability, you’ll likely end up working for people who aren’t smarter or better than you.
You just proved the point that college "learning" is a scam !! "They aren't smarter or better than you."
Seen it...a friend of mine worked for a company for ten years and offered for a higher position... they offered it to a new grad , who had to taught how to do everything😅😅 talk about a waste of time and resources.
I, uh, am a, uh, communications, uh, major, and I, uh, think, uh
Goinjg to college was the dumbest thing I ever did - I should have used the money to buy a home I would have like a million dollars cash by now!
Gotta say online universities are a scam too, I constantly get adds for an “online university” that’s been around 100 years. Yep that’s word for word in the ad, the internet that’s been around 30 years has been teaching people for an extra 70.
Sales for different trades is hugely profitable and easy to learn.
If you’re going into STEM then absolutely get your degree! Anything else, you’re being scammed.
The classes I was taking were entirely not applicable to my degree. Ultimately I went to hair school, which was still overly bureaucratic. I think on the job training is much more efficient in learning the necessary job/life skills. Everything needs to be much more streamlined and focalized, suited to your career choice. Like, why does a freakin cop need a *bachelor* degree?!!
My nephew went to UC San Diego and racked up 100K in loans and has remained a waiter at PF Chang since he graduated 6 years ago. His parents are having to help him pay off his loan. 🥴
A point that is missed in these debates or in Jake's take regarding sales is that not everyone is capable of doing sales. I can do customer service all day long, but you ask me to sell something and I freeze. I tried to do sales and I just don't mesh well with it.
Software engineer here who did a 6 month bootcamp and is now making six figures. College is a scam. Every company I’ve been at actively looks for boot camp graduates now because they come out with more practical know how and less theoretical bs.
I make just under 190k a year. No degree. I work from home. Thank you IT consulting.
Sylvester Stallone: “The whole point of a college degree is to show a potential employer that you showed up someplace four years in a row, completed a series of tasks reasonably well and on time. So if they hire you, there’s a semi-decent chance that you’ll show up there every day and not f- up his business.”
Perhaps, but is that REALLY worth spending 100 + K ??
Study Russian and get paid to go to school. Don’t pay for it
Many of our Apprentices have degrees or have spent time at University before starting the Apprenticeship.
I'm a computer programmer. Programming is definitely something you can learn without going to college (as long as you have an interest in computers). Plenty of online courses etc. You might need to start in a less appealing programming job - but you can work your way up. Employers generally focus on experience rather than education.
Plumbers design plumbing equipment and tools just like every trade
That poor fool, a huge jerk.
I make 200000 a year and routinely hire 19-20 year olds and after 2 years if they apply themselves they are making at least 80k. And the ones that have been here 10 years or more all make 6 figures. No college. Or college that has nothing to do with their job. Like me. I use what I learned in the military to advance into my job.
11:31 he looks like the main character in My Hero Academia
Sales can be a really good job. But (I may be a minority in this fact) working at a call center is one of the worst jobs I've ever had, it paid well but I couldn't make myself do it longer than 9 months- even after a very fast promotion! Most call centers are "forced call queues." Then the company does a "review" which says you are inadequate. My supervisor actually told me not to worry, it looks like that for everyone. I told her that is wrong. It destroyed my morale and it let me know that the company already had documentation designed to fire me at anytime in the future. I wish I could have kept it but it was too difficult.
I became a paramedic before it was a degree program. There us no reason why someone needs to take almost a full semester of classes not related to the field. It would be better if they had that time to work on patients care skills.
Thank you for telling people about the other side of life. Im literally the person you’re talking about and your 100% correct. No college, no debt, very happy. I own my own biz and hire all the guys who went to college haha. You didn’t touch on how trade schools, good ones will offer job placement. It’s a marketing tool that builds in accountability. Quite different than current university.
My sibling made six figures before getting a GED. Myself, on the other hand, have six figures in student loan debt (for a Masters) and just barely made 50k. Scam city.
This "college kid" is proving his point. Super entitled and not really saying anything. Asking questions that most companies don't find necessary is not a debate. I have a degree and it's not a magic wand, MOST PEOPLE ARE GETTING RIPPED OFF and have so much debt!
True some classes do not make sense, but teaches something different and one day maybe related…
Totally agree with your take on things about initiative, resilience and practical abilities & experience. I myself started off as a young filmmaker; I attended acting classes to observe and then write small scenes for them to act out, I then went to independent film screenings and met other like minded people and then got the confidence to produce, write and direct my first short. I combined experienced crew and saved up and paid for them and the rest paid expenses for but got experience producing a film like me. It went on to win awards and from there I made more content, more festivals, and then started getting paid gigs.
Eventually set up my own company, which was great for further experience but wasn't a great success and I wound it down. I then went and got a scholarship in an MA for film but everything that we did was stuff I had already done, and my tutors knew of me and I was able to just hand up previous things I had done as my assignments from budgets, to finance plans, to creative things like screenplays, treatments, shot lists, light designs, editing.
Overall theory should be accompanied by practical, and practical is by far so important to get first I feel, the theory after that solidifies your professionalism to the craft.
However people can be exploited and do so under the 'exposure bucks' scam, but in genuine cases which you can qualify their worth before accepting, it is so benefical in your growth in whatever field.
Outstanding debates

This dude probably can’t even explain those things he asked of Charlie well anyways. You don’t even need to go to college to learn differential equations
I could discuss for hours on how institutions and kids are turning college into a scam. I full heartedly agree with Charlie on this matter.
I’m 40 years old. I have at least 6 friends who, to this day, have never had a job in their field. 4 years, got a degree, never got a job in the field they studied. A few went into the military and the others went into sales jobs. I wanted to go to school for music. I never did, but back then it would’ve made sense. Today, you can use UA-cam to study music theory. You can buy books or take lessons to master an instrument. If I went for music today, the only place that would make sense is Berkeley school of music or Full sail if you want to do music engineering. But even with that, you don’t need it. I mean, John Mayer dropped out of Berkeley. Granted he’s a one in a million type of pure talent and getting to his status of fame is damn near impossible. But you get my point. College is a scam. Hell, even the guitarist from my old band is a successful producer today. He never went to school. Self taught. He’s recorded bands like Periphery, Memphis May Fire, Jason Richardson, Luke Holland (even had a side project with him called The Evening). I’m rambling. My point is, I agree. You don’t NEED college for most fields. Medical, engineering, Science, perhaps computer related fields. But others are a waste.
Enjoyed this one
CHARLIE LOST THIS ONE COMPLETELY. HE ACTED LIKE A JERK INSTEAD OF DEBATING PROFESSIONALLY.
Who made the things did a plumber uses? Who makes the parts for planes? Well that's very easy a machinist. I was a CNC programmer for 20 years it didn't go to college to learn to do it
I was going to comment and saw your post. I think when people mention trades, machinists should be first. I’m actually tired of machining not being mentioned when I could argue, it’s the most important.
It isn't so much about whether university/College is worth going to, but whether the quality of education has dropped and become corrupted in it's motivation. In past generations a university degree had value, now they offer remedial English classes for thosr that can't write and offer overpriced courses that offer very littke back to society
I used to make 70 n hr without a degree... its called a hustle
College should teach the kids to pay their student loans and quit getting degrees that have no Demand in the Job Market. And quit going in to $100K debt for a Degree unless you're in Med School or Law School. Yeah, I'm an Enginerd, but i also worked Construction from 14 cleaning up Const. Sites on weekends to Working for Masonry Subs, Electrical Subs and a G.C full time....while i got my Degree by 28.
5:10 This guy needs to take a communication course.
Airline pilot at a legacy carrier, no degree.
12:29 if communications is this kids major he just proved Charlie’s point to a tee. 😂
I would have learned more by reading books at home and a lot cheaper than going to college
Jake, congrats on 550,000 subs
Yup I tried s year got nothing out of it I make 6 figures and never went
I put myself through a Trade School and make over 6 figures and I’m not in debt. Glad I didn’t go to college
Looking to leave college for trade school. Which trade careers are the best?
No, if I had a clue when I was younger I would've gotten an engineering degree or skipped it all together
