The irony is that the black ranger who got the frog is Johnny Yong Bosch one of the most prolific and well loved anime voice actors out there. His roles include Lelouch from Code Geass, Ichigo from Bleach, and Vash from Trigun. The guys come along way from Power Rangers

Fun fact: the role of Dulcea(the jungle lady/spirit guide) was originally played by Mariska Hargitay(Olivia Benson from SVU). She actually did a few scenes, but right around winter she asked if she could leave to visit her family for Christmas. They said yes then later told her not to come back.
I heard she had to leave because she was pregnant and asked for leave and they wanted reshoots but didn't want to push the movie back so she was recasted

I feel like we dont mention enough how good Korey is at operating the cameras live. Like he always knows when his co hosts wanna add something and switches over to them and it always feels natural

This film contains the absolute best version of "Go Go Power Rangers," and I will always love it just for that.
Y'all can rag on Johnny Yong Bosch (the Black Ranger) in this movie, but he's an extremely talented voice actor who's been in the industry for over 20 years. I read an interview with him that inevitably brought up Power Rangers, and apparently his martial arts instructor saw an ad in the paper for auditions, and encouraged him to go for it. The interviewer asked if this was his first acting role, and he replied, "Sure... if you could call what I did 'acting'."

To be fair a good bit of the bad acting could be contributed to the fact that they were filming the movie and almost a dozen episodes at the same time with practically no down time
My one claim to fame is falling down two flights of stairs at Youmacon in Detroit and having Johnny Yong Bosch help me up and ask me if I was okay. He does voice-over work in Anime and video games now, so you can go meet him at conventions sometimes. He's a nice guy.
Seeing this film in the cinema is literally my first memory my mum was taking an exam at university and couldn’t take me while she was studying before it and so when she took the exam my auntie took me to see it.

David Yost was 26, JDF was 22. Steve cardenas was 21, karen ashley was 19, amy jo Johnson was 24, Johnny yong Bosh was 19. So yeah it was accurate that two were teenagers, but the show was 3 years in. They were playing hs juniors.

Then there was Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, which in hindsight was boring as fuck. Just a glorified pilot episode for the Turbo season.

@Zachle Mentor I thought it was okay. I mean I liked it. But it suffered the same problem Turbo did. They waited until the very end to actually suit up. I mean the story itself was miles better than the past 2 PR movies, but I digress.
Let's face it. Power Rangers will never be great in movie form beyond MMPR. It's too strictly onto the mindset of the TV show. What works on the show barely can translate into film. Turbo's movie at least was modest to be like the show on a movie budget but isn't still great.

The Power Rangers Turbo movie was worse
Basically just a season premiere with a slightly bigger budget lol. That season damn near killed the franchise, until "In Space" rejuvinated it.

I'd argue the reboot was a better movie.... But the 90s movie is way more fun because it really was the show with a slightly bigger budget. The reboot at least aimed to do something different. Wasn't nearly as fun, but was definitely more grounded.

The reboot had too many ideas and no clear vision while this one just went "its the TV stretched into 90 minutes." and ran with it. Just my opinion though, not the definite answer

@@nickmesogianes4638 The one definite thing I put the reboot over the 90s movie (and show) is the Rangers themselves. They actually lived up to the "teenagers with attitude" mantra. Whereas the show was "Saved by the Bell", the 2017 reboot was "Breakfast Club". The show itself did this with some of the post-MMPR series, but i really liked that the 2017 movie had the Rangers be strangers with each other at the beginning; they weren't friends, nor did they really want anything to do with each other, before eventually growing close as a unit and team. That's probably the key thing that elevates the reboot over this movie (and the original show), where the Rangers are already friends and (despite different personalities), have little to no tension with each other.
It makes my day hearing Billy and Martin laugh at Ivan Ooze.

Every kids' action show with a team from the 80's-90's had the same five characters: the leader, the second-in-command, the smart one, the tough one, and "the chick." You're not supposed to understand them, you're supposed to pick one and pretend that's you.

@triforian king For the MMPR I think it's actually Kimberly which makes Trini "The Chick." The Pink Ranger became more stereotypically "The Chick" in later seasons.
And if u were really lucky there would be 2 chicks one for the “tomboys” which was normally the yellow one and one for the “girly girls” which was normally the pink one
@@QueenA.G. I never said "The Chick" had to be the only girl. MMPR kind of had two "chicks" but in Time Force for instance the Yellow Ranger was "The Tough One," and the Pink Ranger was "The Second in Command."

I love how they lost it over Saba shooting a laser and missed the fact that its Sentient lol.
LOL to be fair tho, there wasn't anything in the movie to suggest it was "sentient", other than him shooting a laser. If you knew the show, then yeah you knew he could talk and all that.... But looking at the movie on its own, it just looks like Tommy named his sword Saba lol

There's a sad fact about this series for David Yost (the actor that played Billy Cranston, the Blue Ranger). He actually almost committed suicide while working on this show because of he was harassed for being gay. He was once told that he wasn't worthy of being a hero because he was gay.

Something that just dawned on me after over 25 years. If Ivan Ooze can spawn tons of henchmen out of nothing, let alone henchmen with the strength to take on Power Rangers, why the fuck didn't he just used THEM to dig up his robots instead of brainwashing the local housekeepers and cab drivers and whatnot. It's not like Zordon or the Rangers were around to stop him.
To anyone not from the Power Ranger generation, it really is the dumbest thing, but people like me who were 8-11 when it was big this movie was LIFE!! The show was everything to us. I remember how dramatic it was during the 5 episode Green Ranger saga at the end of season 1.

Ivan actually has two of the giant robo-bugs, Hornitor and Scorpitron. They're called the Ectomorphicon Titans, and are powered by his ooze.

Say what u want but Ivan ooze is one of my favorites villains cause he actually got his revenge on Zordon by actually killing him in this movie while also giving his villain monologue as he does it. He just rocks up into zordons command center, oozes through the door and fucks up alpha 5, zordon and the command center and depowers the ranger all in one fell swoop. Dude did in a few hours of freedom what it took most villains years to pull off.

This movie was my shit as a kid. Even to this day, I still think it’s a fun time. Goofy as fuck and badly written, but fun and sincere in being a great fantasy for kids of all ages. I can’t hate it.
Ivan Ooze comes off as almost an Invader Zim type character. "All this time spent trying to conquer Earth and all I had to do was charge the humans for it!"
I was a little disappointed that they didn't talk much about Dulcea. I would have loved to have heard them talk about the scantily-clad hottie warrior who wore so little in a kids movie. I read in a review that it seemed like she was dressed that way to appeal to the dads who were dragged to see this.
