    How do you deal with sterile eco-systems though?

      What do you mean by sterile? I assume that would require a reintroduction of ecosystem components to make it self sustaining and balanced again. Like water, aeration, microbiomes, vegetation, biodiversity, etc.

    That`s all fine and dandy but as an engineer I can assure you that roof gardens are a bunch of nonsense that just make your roof leak more.
    If you want more greenery then fixing housing regulation so that roof green and terrace green spaces are not counted as part of the green spaces installed by the builder might be a better option. Slopped roofs are also a better option than flat roofs.
