The Green City: Understanding our Green Spaces
Not many people realise Salford is 60% green space, and there are many exciting projects going on to celebrate and protect its urban nature. Dr Sam Hayes takes us on a journey into the importance of green spaces in Greater Manchester through the work of researchers at the University of Salford. In this video we will explore the impact of green space on wellbeing, the benefits of running and cycling in the natural world, the importance of biodiversity and how we can contribute to protecting it.

Salford Wetland - A Film by Luke Blazejewski
Переглядів 6 тис.6 років тому
On the borders of Salford and Manchester there is a small patch of land that has become an unlikely home for wildlife in the city. Initially built to defend against any future flooding events, this wetland has attracted all kinds of wildlife to an area rarely associated with the natural world. It reminds us that nature is on our doorstep, and that we just need to open our eyes and our mind to t...

Forest Bank Prison - Safe Drive Stay Alive (2015)
The problem is Mancunians and Salfordians are not very proud of their river. If I have the capital I would start a business hiring motor dinghies out to the public to enjoy.
بسیار عالی
That`s all fine and dandy but as an engineer I can assure you that roof gardens are a bunch of nonsense that just make your roof leak more. If you want more greenery then fixing housing regulation so that roof green and terrace green spaces are not counted as part of the green spaces installed by the builder might be a better option. Slopped roofs are also a better option than flat roofs.

A brilliant video.
Nice
I live in the rossendale valley we have some wonderful wildlife on the Orwell that pases threw
It is beautiful there or was until they built that ugly housing estate next to it. That no salford people can afford to buy.
How do you deal with sterile eco-systems though?
What do you mean by sterile? I assume that would require a reintroduction of ecosystem components to make it self sustaining and balanced again. Like water, aeration, microbiomes, vegetation, biodiversity, etc.
beautiful film for a wonderful place. visited today for the first time and spent hours just watching and walking around. looking forward to seeing how the vegetation and animal biodiversity develops over the coming years!
Da bank is the place to be
Jail is fuck all
Lovely Luke. I go for a walk over there and by the river, then to Kersal wetlands all the time. It is a stark contrast but it adds to the beauty in a way. Xx
Excellent film and great to learn about this research into supporting the population of this beautiful butterfly, thank you.
Beautiful. I never knew that existed. Then I extended my walk in lockdown. I was so amazed by it. I will be walking around there as much as I can. You must go for a walk, anyone who hasn't been yet. Plus it's so awesome to have a lovely nature place in an urban area. You can see all the towers of Manchester in the background which adds to the contrast. Just a wonderful place.🌄💚💛
Fine photos of less common birds, eg plover
Wonderful to see wetland development in the city,a very positive project.💚Dare I say it ,a Manchester bee to all involved 🐝🤫 Simon Artley Didsbury
Greenest city in the country is Salford. The best thing to have been constructed in a long time.
Lovely! Much more of this kind of thing, please! (Both the film and the project) 😊
Beautiful film. Great to see the volunteer effort that goes into protecting this delightful butterfly.
A really well put together film. Thanks for sharing.

Amazing! You’re such a talented film maker!! 👌🏽
Thanks Brooke! (Cheque is in the post).
please tell the young lady at 1 minute 41 seconds ,that she is in Salford , not Manchester . I was brought up in Lower Kersal and last year was the first time I had set foot on ''the racecourse'' it was fabulous !
Thank you. My thoughts too. 👍
Manchester racecourse.
@@mana3735 maybe called Manchester racecourse, but very much in Salford. As we're the Manchester docks !
@@kenjackson4265 Yeah I know...it's all the Manchester AREA though.
what a great place for photography! I wish to do a hide there and take some pics..
Jusr upstream there are many lakes and ponds, that have been there for a very long time.. This is just extra. Not the be all.
where do you mean ?
I'm so lucky to live so close to this wonderful space. This really captured it!
Fantastic video, the wetland is an amazing community asset and this showcased it perfectly.
