This review has to be the most professionally done on UA-cam. Thank you the information that you have provided.
Sincerely appreciate it, thank you very much!
A useful upgrade would be a clear plastic window layer for the tent to allow vision and light while keeping rain out. One could also fabricate a clear plastic window setup that could be fit with Velcro on the canopy side doors. That way the side doors can be flipped up and open letting in lots of light without the rain coming in. Just some thoughts.
Picked up my GFC late May, absolutely no complaints. Just got home from 2 weeks 3,000 miles. Going to regroup and head out on a 4 week adventure late August into Sept. I'm digging it.
Right on, great to hear!
well thought out review. The design that lets you stand up inside your camper is a huge plus.
Unbelievably good video with all the Pros and Cons succinctly covered in detail. Not sure it could be any shorter and still be as good. Thanks!
Great review. A bunch of us have installed 12 volt computer fans in our roof vents in FG trailers that really help with condensation and provide air circulation
Winter months.Glad mentioned.Understand condensation big time.
Thanks for doing this I really wanted to see someone with a Decked system in their taco.
This was incredibly informative and I appreciate you being so thorough.
My pleasure, happy you found it helpful! Cheers!
Don't think I've ever seen a better product review. SUBSCRIBED
Thank you! 👍
Excellent and thorough video. Thanks for putting in the time to make it.
Happy to help! 🤘
I think lead time is now down to 10-11 weeks. While all the accessories would be nice extras, I really appreciate that GFC is staying 100% American made / They are a small company focusing on ramping up production on a hugely popular product. I think once they get to a plateau of demand, they will continue to innovate and begin creating more of the extras.
Ty…for your thoughts on the GFC and way your setup is arranged. It help me put things in better prospective for me. Second ty for doing this video sooner than later.
I know I requested this on your last video, I did not expected so soon. Greatly appreciated it.
My pleasure, happy to help address the many potential questions! 👍
Just put a deposit down yesterday and looking forward to it. Thanks for your thoughts and mitigation strategies to avoid damage with moving panels and I dig the big door. Can’t let my wife see that bat wing, she’ll want that piece of kit too!
No rambling excellent detailed review
Great review. Hopefully gfc sees this and addresses some of your issues
I found this review to be excellent for my purposes. Great job!
Thank you! Glad it was helpful 👍
Great review. This was on a short list, but honestly thinking through the positives and negatives you have here.
Thank you for watching and the support!
Thank you for this excellent review. I have a 2016 Tacoma, and am thinking about putting together a configuration very similar to yours with a Decked system and a Go Fast. It's very helpful to see how this unit performs in different weather conditions, including the cold. Great stuff.
Happy to help! Best of luck on the future build! 👍
wonderful just what I needed
Happy to help! 👍
Got my v2 in August 2021. Cool to have watched your channel grow. Nice job!
I liked ALL the positive comments, the Cons were a deal breaker.Camping in the cold is fun but not when your tent is not up to it.
Awesome review man, all the reasons why I got one and I finally scheduled my install date with GFC for October, Super stoked! Thanks
Right on, congrats!!
Great thorough review! Thank you
Great review , Thankyou !!
I do admit this has been one of my favorite setup. Love the all in one design, getting Stanley in is so much easier!!!
But every time I say this/get used to a set up, you get a newer better set-up, so we shall see what happens now. 😉
Haha, indeed! We'll just have to see what the future holds! 🤫 😉
As always great video. You did a great review.
Much appreciated, thank you!
Excellent info.Trying fig how getdogs up tent.
Fantastic review! Thanks so much
Happy to help, thanks for watching!
I am loving my GFC V2, it barely squeezes into my garage on the Colorado ZR2 package. I am running a Decked system also and got a tilting fridge slide with a Dometic 45, with all the gear loaded ready to go it squats the suspension just enough so I can barely clear the garage door. I figured out how to mount the MaxTrax off the tent's side extrusion so I can still park in the garage and use the roof (beef) racks for hauling kayaks and paddleboards.
Parking in the garage is a huge plus, definitely envy you for being able! Glad to hear all has worked out with your setup, the GFC is certainly a capable camper with it's wide variety of uses!
How did you mount the MaxTrax off the side extrusion?

Wow the coolest camper tent I’ve ever seen, I just subscribed I’ll be watching for more. I like this design .
Very thorough review. 👍 Well done.
Priceless review , thanks
Happy to help!
I'm looking at the GFC, FWC project M &the Alu cab khaya. The GFC is affordable more so and the lightweight aspect is a rather important feature seeing tie downs for truck camper and leaf spring upgrades can cost thousands. My project truck camper is a skamper 080S. Very heavy but running water, a kitchen and dinnette is nice. I'd install a Newport P9000 instead of the Mr buddy. Condensation is problem and if you forget anything electrical inside the camper it's dew everywhere come morning.
Were you unhappy with the GFC, and so you got rid of it? Would you still recommend the GFC Camper? Did you have a problem with your GFC leaking into the bed of your truck... I have read a few reviews where others have been unhappy with the GFC campers leaking where the camper sits on the bed frame... Love what you are doing and your videos..
Not unhappy at all, I just simply work at iKamper now which prompted the change. I only had very minor complaints as mentioned in this video but overall for the price point of this camper, it worked well for my needs.
GFC is local to me, but I was curious if you have seen a "Super Pacific" in person and compared the two. I think the SP is slightly more expensive but it seems they have a lot of things that the GFC could have added.
I have not seen the SP in person though have heard and read many great things about them. Would like to check one out on a rig, the interior locking latches are of big interest to me along with the many innovative designs of the overall build!
SP didn't make a Jeep Gladiator camper at the time I ordered my GFC. If SP had a Gladiator model they definitely would have been a strong contender no doubt.
I've seen the super pacific in person. I think it's far superior
SP definitely has some superior features and is very well built( and 5k more then a full-size GFC). I think the SP seems more geared for people packing tons of gear, accessories, etc.. and plan on going slow to accommodate the load in the back. The GFC is geared more towards fast off-roaders who don’t require every bell and whistle and pack less. They both definitely have their place, just depends on your needs.
Super Pacific has been sneakily creeping up there price fyi
Great review and even better feedback. How does the latching work from the inside to close up at night?
💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥 fire review homie! 💪👊
Appreciate it, thank you! 🙌
Looking forward to your review on the Superlite 😉👍
@@ConquestOverland I guess I should do a review like you .. lol. All professional and stuff ... 👊
Update: Picked up my V2 recently, haven’t got to use it much. My “up front” gripes, one being they don’t hook up your camper brake light. Really?! Snugtop did at a fraction of the cost. The second one, is there are spring loaded pins, instead of tent locks now. From reading various forums, the lock were essentially becoming stuck, locking people out while camping. So, hopefully something evolves from this to lock gear down say, you go to town for groceries, or a bite to eat away from the vehicle. Other than that the nuances of the central hub of all my gear exist under the GFC, and I’m excited to work through them. Home you’re happy with life at iKamper and owning/living in one.
Michael for the mattress issue you might want to try the Thermarest MondoKing 3D air mattress. it is 4 inches thick and is 25 X 77 inches. The length will work but I'm not sure how wide the bed is. It looks like it's about 5 feet which would be perfect. Plus it has an insulation value of R11.4.
Right on, appreciate the tip! I'll definitely be looking into those. 👍
Good review bro, cheers
Best review anything thinking buying.I can weight if it is whatwant. Some issues. You very positive with your negatives.Like that
Great reviews. Love what you are doing. If you want to sleep in, get one of those airline eye mask. 😁😁. Best wishes.
I just may have to look into those... 😆
Wow! That is by far the best video on the GFC that I have seen. I drove 16 hrs up to Bozeman last Oct and purchased the same model mounted on my 2017 Tacoma. I turn 60 this Sat. I'm retiring early, Dec 23rd being my last day of work. I am going to live on the road for the rest of my days. I dropped $8,000 into this and the rest of my $ on solar power and a fridge. Now it's gas and groceries. I so agree with the imperfections of this product but don't have any choice but to deal with it and try to make things better. The 6 locks really bother me. I am constantly locking and unlocking them all the time. I was thinking of shooting some graphite into them like a locksmith would do to make the key slip in and out easier. Do you have an opinion on that? Even though there are a lot of negatives, your video got me pumped up and I'm looking forward to more. Love the content and enjoy listening to you.
That's so incredible to hear! Congrats on the retirement here in a few days, well deserved! The GFC is a great platform and I feel it provides a wonderful opportunity for people to make them their own with the ability to make changes or add items as needed. Regarding the locks I'm uncertain but I personally didn't find it too much of a bother as I used the rear tailgate side 90% of the time.
Have fun and safe travels to the soon new life on the road, very exciting!!
The veiws of the PNW can't beat anywhere else. been here 25 years and still haven't experienced everything washington has to offer.
Couldn't agree more! The calendar will endlessly be filled with opportunities to explore here! 👍
This was a great overview and managed to hit several questions I had (specifically climbing in if you have bed drawers). I'm curious... can you remove the pad from all of the panels so that it isn't taking up thickness when you add your own Exped Mat? Also, when you used the Exped, did you have to remove all of your bedding or did you just let the mattress air down and it allow even more room for bedding?
The small windows for stank feet... I like it! Alot..
Stank feet, should be an official GFC term...😆
@@ConquestOverland I mean... camping, less showers... hot sweaty feet.. stank feet. Lol.. I haven't had bad things with the Superlite, compare to what I had before I guess ... its been real dope.. small ... but its supposed to be.. lol
Idea for roof light coming in..Just like a curtain. That mounts into t tracks..Slide it open and closed..Easy.
Thanks for the video nice review I’m running an ATOVERLAND atlas thermal kit dual battery management solar with the true my heater system 270° batwing awning and a few other options max fan air vent Be blessed
Very nice, sounds like an incredible setup! 👍
Great video and nice how you did the pros and cons of the GFC but thing I have noticed in the last year with over landing and so many people now getting out and exploring the cost of out door recreational equipment has risen in cost and now with so many new company coming out with new stuff camper roof top tents overland camper there is going to be a Big shift in the market for for campers like that and hopefully GFC listens to what you’re talking about because customers are important to keep your business alive and if not people will shop somewhere else or another company will come up with a better product
Competition will always bring enhanced innovation, or at least I'd hope so (not to mention cost)! There has certainly been an influx in this style camper for the past several years, interesting to see the fine details on what sets the many manufacturers apart. GFC in particular has seen significant growth over the years which is fantastic but I definitely see room for enhanced production. 👍
Thanks for the support!
I’m holding out a little longer because of this. Super pacific looks awesome but I know other brands are watching closely and making adjustments to what other companies are not doing but people are requesting!
Also you talk about the padding in the GFC there is a company in Olympia on Martin way that deals in all kinds of different forms from car seats to pillows might want to check that place out To make your GFC see more comfortable
@@midnightadventureswa Right on, I'll definitely look into that, thanks for the tip! 👍
@@midnightadventureswa I live and work near Olympia. What's the place you're talking about?
Wish someone would show 3rd brake install on Tundra..GFC should install that in my opinion..Every shell I have bought.Thats was part of buying it..
Great video… but what about security? Would you feel comfortable leaving it out on the city streets for a couple nights with equipment in the back outside the decked containers?
Thank you!
I never had an issue! The doors on the GFC locked as well as the Decked drawers. Between this and locking the tail gate I never once had an issue, granted my truck never saw true "city streets" aside from rural communities where I lived 😉
@@ConquestOverland thanks for replying. Unfortunately, I live near downtown Los Angeles where break-ins and human feces on the sidewalk is a normal thing 🤦
@@citizenpark2782 oh gosh, that’s horrible. I can completely understand from that perspective then. Regardless you should be okay but compared to other canopy campers, the hinge doors of the GFC might not be the strongest for this really wanting to break in…
Great video my friend. I was thinking to get one but if it takes 1 year or more then I am definitely seeking other options.
Thank you! It was certainly a tough year of waiting and had my doubts at times though happy I did stick with it. I will say since then, numerous competitors have come into the industry and offer a fairly sought after product, definitely explore all options!
@@ConquestOverland can you list some of the other options?
Great video
Thank you!
Thanks!
Appreciate the support, thank you!
@@ConquestOverland Absolutely! Keep up the good work.
On the mattress..Buy the GFC Sheets.Cut out your own foam or whatever, and intstall it in the sheets between the mattress.Easy.
Great perspective. I believe propane is a large issue with your condensation. If you were able to use another heat source like wood you would see much less condensation. The mini fireplaces that are in some vans might be the way to go.
Without a doubt the propane was the added culprit, though the offsite is the added ease of use benefit. With our new setup this may not be an issues anymore though!
Diesel heaters are very popular also to prevent condensation from the occuring.
great review, thanks!
Thanks, that was very helpful!
Happy to help! 👍
Nice review. In “bunk mode”, I’d probably rollover into the bed below. 😆
That was certainly a thought on numerous occasions for me too! Nice in theory though! 😆
nice video, I am getting mine in Feb 2022 is in production now, I am debating in what side put the awning, driver side or passenger side .......
Nice, congrats on the purchase! I would say it just really depends on your use. I like the passenger side for being able to pull off the road and having shade for a quick lunch or something. Otherwise it doesn't make too much a difference as you can mount anything else all around the camper with their track system.
I love it but $8k+, just priced it on their website. Great product but many will not buy due to the price and go with bedrack and camper on top, 4k max for that set up.
For sure, definitely an investment though I feel everything in this "overland" industry is in some form or fashion. There will certainly always be pros and cons with each setup whether price or use, but at the end of the day just have to find what works best for you and not what social media says... 😉👍
@@ConquestOverland agreed, I'd love to have it, will start saving :)
In inches, how tall is your rig overall?
Great review. You convinced me not to get one. How does a company located in Montana not have insulation for winter camping. When you said it looks DIY build that speaks volumes.
Happy to help provide an honest review!
Amazing review, I use this all the time for reference. Just curious what you do for the mattress for when its both you and the wife? I have a discount exped (Qomotop) that's 80x52 and am curious if it will fit. I pick up late June!
Thank you, glad you found it helpful! When I had the camper I never consistently used a different mattress like an Exped. I felt by having that in there, you lost all ability and reason of the GFC by having a modular floor. But, that was just my personal preference!
Congrats on your order, June will be here before you know it!
Cool frenchie
Can you comment as to why you ditched it after less than a year?
What part of Washington are u from?
Tri city viewer here !
Enjoyed the review. As for the translucent roof, would it be possible to paint it to keep out the light. Do they offer roof options.
You could always just have the roof wrapped as well in case you want to undo it. Haven’t owned the GFC in over a year now so not sure if additional roof options are offered.
Thanks for watching!
Great video, thank you so much.
I have a June 2nd install. What Axia Alloys mount did you install for your Maxtrax? I would like to do the same thing.
Thanks Dave, happy to help and congrats on the purchase!
Here is the link for the Asia Alloy mount. I just used it with no clamps, the maxtrax pins, and GFCs 1/4 T-Nuts. axiaalloys.com/product/pair-of-maxtrax-traction-board-mounts/
Cool campers show us their socks 13:33 Nice.
Agreed! 😆
nice review, I've got a v1 myself. Can elaborate on your bug net a bit?
Thanks! Bug netting is basically used for at home application, I just cut to fit as needed. This one is nice with the magnetic closures and adhesive velcro application, see more info here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083NWYN7M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
What kind of mpg do You get with Your set up? Do you “feel it” on the truck? Nice review 👍
I usually get about 15 mpg fully loaded. Since the install of the camper I do notice the extra weight but it's not really that bad. If anything I feel more of the wind resistance from the overhang over the cab of the truck. Though that is to be expected with a setup like this.
Thank you for the support!
That narrow sleeping space is what keeps me hesitating and using a tent. 2 adults in anything less than a 60" width truly sucks. Wish the canopy shape and resultant wedge footprint was bumped out a little for wider sleep space.. don't need it to completely conform to the truck cab dimension.
Sounds silly but a cheap mattress that works and can be had for 4$ is a swimming pool lounge at DG
Nice video! Where’d you get the owning??
Rhino Rack 👍
Where did u get the drawers system?can I ask ,what did it cost?
Certainly! I purchased the drawers through a local shop I've gone to for years, Mule Expedition Outfitters. At the time the price before install was about $1,200 though after reviewing DECKED's website it seems they have raised slightly. In perspective that is not too terrible for a full drawer system as many other competitors start much higher.
Two questions.
Where were you filming this at?
How has the camper affected your MPG?
Can you make it overhang off the back?
And can you buy just the tent portion and not the topper part?
How do u look behind?
Love it and the price, just wish it wasnt so ugly.
I new to your channel. I noticed your recent videos you're running an imamper and bed rack. Did you happen to get rid of the go fast? Did it not work out the way you had planned?
GFC was overall good while I had it, only reason for parting ways was me taking a dream job working at iKamper full time!
Any idea what the weight limit of the bed is? I weigh 290lbs.. Will it support me sleeping?
Great build ! propane heat creates water check out espar gas heater runs off my gas tank it keeps my 1st gen Tacoma with V1 dry and warm keep the videos coming :) !
I'll certainly look into that, thanks for the tips!
First Gen double cab?
@@AlbertoHernandez-gv3hv yea that what they called them back in 02
Thanks for the cool vid! Do you know if there is a way to get this in austria? I would like to get one for my new ford ranger... Best regards from Austria 👍🌍😉
Not sure, you could try reaching out to them and inquire? Appreciate the support, thank you!
Would there be enough clearance if you are running a full length cab prinsu to clear under the front section of the camper? Do you happen to know the measurement between the roof and bottom of the front section?
There is enough clearance for running a full length Prinsu rack. I've seen it done many times before. Unfortunately since I've transitioned setup I do not have the measurement info though I'm sure the kind folks at GFC could help you 👍
My concern about getting a GFC for my truck is sleeping in it is it really wide enough for 2 people?
Depends on how big you are and how much "shoulder room" you like when sleeping. It can certainly be done but everyone has their own preference... 😉
Did you remove/replace your sharkfin antennae?
I did not, cleared just fine 👍
Do you have issues with condensation inside over the night?
I did when I had it, winter camping was a bit rough to say the least.
so the whole thing is permanent installed?
Nope, just a clamp system like any normal canopy 👍
What’s msrp on one of these? Or even a used price on average ?

2 large dogs one small human and cat maybe
MIne leaks
How you get in bed from bed with out jumping 🤔
No to GFC for me. Ill probably go with 4wheel camper.
Nice!
Ooops excuse me but what about thievery, moving forward there will Have's ( That's You!) and Have Not's. So, I am a firm believer in out of sight, out of mind. My Napier Truck Bed Tent folds into a mini duffel bag and goes into my cab when not in use. Along with my Air Mattress and sleeping bag and cooler. I mingle hiking with camping, and I would not hike very long, if I knew my GFC was sitting on top of my truck waiting for a thief to come and take it!
We're are you ir isbeautiful
Showed my wife a $3500 roof tent. She laughed. I laughed. My dog laughed. We bought 7 top of the line backpacking tents instead.
Congrats
I laughed at the guy that bought 7 tents.
They're overpriced, no two ways about it. And it sucks that you have to actually pay to get it installed. Price aside, this camper is pretty awesome, but the cost has kept me from entertaining it so far. I can do far more upgrades to the overall truck for less.
Yea… too pricey. I did the math… assuming it costs $10k, and you used it 26x a year, you’d be spending $385 per trip for lodging.
Snooze boring
